WaveFan09 50 Report Share Posted March 7, 2006 G-Man, what do you think Grundys Chances of Going to single A are, and how soon?
VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted March 10, 2006 about the new school building ... Found out yesterday that core drilling is currently being done at the site. Today's newspaper basically says it's a big strip mine site, with room for the school and a housing development (110 acres), plus road-side commercial/industrial properties. A 4-lane will be built from the site to the CFX at Bull Gap (Bull Mtn.), and apparently back the other way to Lover's Gap, too. No timetable was given. If they're waiting until CFX is built, it'll be 10 years, since new road projects weren't in the last state budget. Maybe that will change in the next week or so. Also found out that downtown demolition could start before the end of the month.
Counts 156 Author Report Share Posted March 10, 2006 Where is the new school planed? I have seen what looks like a big stripjob near popular gapand thought to myself that much flat land should be used for something
djr4hurleyfb 12 Report Share Posted March 14, 2006 And if I'm not mistaken, that big flat land is where they plan on putting the new school. Contingent on getting that "good road" ran through there. They are core drilling there currently, according to the local paper.
wavefan64 10 Report Share Posted March 14, 2006 They aren't core drilling for road or school purposes, but to see if the Pochahontas 3 coal seam runs 1800 ft. underground. There might not be a new school up there, but a new shaft instead. If the Pocy 3 seam runs through there, it will help the county out tremendously economically...but a development area would as well. On the single A deal, it would be great for Grundy...
Lance 228 Report Share Posted March 18, 2006 i love how Grundy always builds parks, schools and anything else on top of mountains you can't even access without 4wd 6 months out of the year...and who's kidding who about building a major road in 10 years...it took them 20 just to 4 lane from the "shopping center" to town limits...and that was an existing highway...which had a speed limit of 45 when they started out and after the improvements is down to mostly 25 - 35 mph zones now...brilliant.
