VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted May 17, 2007 enrollment numbers reflect Avg. Daily Membership for grades 9-12 on March 31st. AA notes : Hidden Valley (now Region IV) & Turner Ashby (now Region III) both moved up to Div. 4. Tunstall & Martinsville both fell to Div. 3. 5 of the Div. 3 schools have over 1100 (all in NoVa / Region II) - largest is Winchester's John Handley with 1179 (just a bit smaller than Carroll Co.'s 1237). In Group A, no real surprises, except for one totally out of the Blue! Coeburn, Clintwood & Castlewood can all petition to "play down". Right now, the largest Div. 1 team is Haysi (280). Regions C & A have 9 teams total that are smaller than that. Region B's SMALLEST has 341 ... their largest has 624 .. only EIGHT schools in the other 3 Regions are bigger. Finally, their are 666 Blue Devils in Gate City ... could that be an Omen ?!?!? http://www.vhsl.org/0708footballdivisions.doc

123456789 10 Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 So if Haysi dropped to Div 1 that leaves Honaker the only Div 2 school in the BDD if that's the case what does this mean when playoffs roll around?
BigD4VT 11 Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 Just means Honaker is the only BDD team that can make the Division 2 playoffs. Carroll was the only Division 4 team in the SWD the past couple of years.
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 Should a school with only 108 students really be forced to compete in the same division, not classification but DIVISION, as a school with almost SIX TIMES the number of students???? Flawed...
JamesL_CcLB34 10 Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 so if carroll has 1237, how far away is that from AAA??
bluekick 11 Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 About 400-500 students.
hoard 18 Report Share Posted May 25, 2007 Makes about as much sense as the Division 1 state champ (Riverheads 2000) having more students than either of the Division 2 finalists (King William and Honaker). Also last year Riverheads (D-1 champ again) had as many more students than D-2 runner-up Giles.
