evophoto 10 Report Share Posted October 8, 2007 Who brings some starters back to JV? I think this year will be interesting adding Abingdon to the mix. I think Carroll brings back 3 kids (2 freshmen and one sophomore) from last year who each started at some point during the previous season. DukieV 10 Report Share Posted October 9, 2007 Richlands is going to start 5 sophmore, but not much size.
evophoto 10 Author Report Share Posted October 9, 2007 I think size is an issue for a lot of programs in the SWD. We just don't have as many people to pick from as some of the larger more populous areas. The law of averages dictates that we won't have as many big people. When we se a kid with size in this area we kid around that he must be from out of town.
JamesL_CcLB34 10 Report Share Posted October 9, 2007 carroll will have a kid who's 6'3 or 6'4 his coordination is alright so he's not really clumsy or anything
evophoto 10 Author Report Share Posted October 9, 2007 Are you talking about Hunter Grubb?
JamesL_CcLB34 10 Report Share Posted October 11, 2007 yea i've never really seen him play but just with his height he'll be a tall body for defense while the rest of the teams i doubt has anyone like that
AbndonFan 10 Report Share Posted October 26, 2007 Abingdon will dominate the JV SW district
evophoto 10 Author Report Share Posted October 26, 2007 Any logical reason or is this just smack talk. I think Carroll will have a good run at it. Several AAU players and they can run with anyone.
opey12 10 Report Share Posted October 26, 2007 Depending on who makes varsity, abingdon's jv will be very tough. Good group of players, but not much size.
wvuraiders 10 Report Share Posted October 26, 2007 Tazewell JV is loaded.
grundysports 10 Report Share Posted October 27, 2007 Grundy jv team should be better than last year because if you remember grundy was a all 8th grade team with 2 sophmores, they have real good guards but they will be hurtin for a big man
evophoto 10 Author Report Share Posted October 29, 2007 Lack of a big man seems to be the story of every team in our region. I remember playing Abingdon in the AAU regional tournament year before last. Seems like they had a big guy or two. They may have been "imports" just for AAU though. I can't wait for basketball to get rolling. It is my favorite time of the year!
AbndonFan 10 Report Share Posted October 29, 2007 Abingdon's up coming jv team played AAU this sping. 14 and under. all but one player plays for Abingdon. They went to Nationals and had a good showing down there. They are a very strong group. Not just trash talking there was some logic to my prevous statement
evophoto 10 Author Report Share Posted October 29, 2007 I did not see Abingdon play in AAU last year. Carroll did not participate in regionals in AAU due to AAU changing regionals to make it just an expensive "regular" tournament(meaning that is not how you have to qualify in to state). Abingdon has fielded some really good AAU teams in that age bracket the past few years, so this should be a really interesting year in the SWD. thenest1 10 Report Share Posted October 29, 2007 Thier AAU team didn't play in regions this past year just went straight to the state tourney and beat some really good teams. this was the first time they had even won a game in the tournament. they play really well together and with what the jv has coming back they should be good. varsity might be down this year but in the next three years they should be really strong if everyone stay out
opey12 10 Report Share Posted November 3, 2007 i think the swd will be in shock, if abingdon's jv plays to their ability. they may be a top 5 varsity team.

opey12 10 Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 they are there. they did quite well this summer against chicago and arkansas national teams. they also have a couple of soph's that are back.
evophoto 10 Author Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 They beat blacksburg two straight years for the regional AAU title. Carroll lost to Blacksburg in the semis in overtime both of those years. Sholud be interesting I can't wait to see how it unfolds. No one really had an answer for their big guy. I want to see how Carroll matches up to him now that we are a couple of years older. Wave_fan1 10 Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 all i know is that grundys jv aint that good cause they got to many players that wanna shoot taht actually dont even belong on the basketball team and one of them looks like a catfish ahahah but no he just thinks he is to good when really he aint worth a toot i think he might be number 10 he played last year if i aint mistaking
BruceMC 10 Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 lmao catfish?.. yeah and i dont see grundys jv winning much of anything until they get a new coach
JamesL_CcLB34 10 Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 their coach is that short guy w/ big glasses right?
evophoto 10 Author Report Share Posted November 6, 2007 Where were you last night James? We had a kid that was 6'7 come out for JV. I think he might end up making a decent player. He'll need work but you can't coach height! He already had instincts for the ball and was rebounding and blocking lots of shots.
JamesL_CcLB34 10 Report Share Posted November 6, 2007 wait 6'7 wheres this kid come from? and it was my grandpas b-day so i couldn't go...(it was open gym right?) but whats his name and wheres he go to school...i don't remember seeing anyone that height at school
