How stupid is the VHSL playoffs? Divisions within divisions might be the nicest way ever to say, "everyone gets a trophy for participating." Abingdon's girls played in the (let me pause and gated my thoughts before I say this) Region Finals and get a birth into the State Quarters. This is rediculous. You had 2 teams battling out for the region title one team only won 6 games and the other was I believe 2nd in the district. Sad time for sports in general. Do we really need 6 divisions like they are planning on going to in 2 years? What happened to just 3 classifications and 3 winners. Or, how about we do like Kentucky and throw everyone into the same pot and say battle it out. Only the strong will survive and be rewarded. The VHSL is making me sick.

Does anyone have any information on what games will and won't be played tonight?

Abingdon has trouble in the second half of every game I've seen last season and this season. Its close in the first half. Hopefully Abingdon can pull one out. Defense needs to be rested when the second half starts. Warriors 27 Abingdon 21

For anyone that is interested in officiating basketball this coming season, the AOA will be having their 3rd annual officiating camp. June 13-15 are the dates and it is held in conjunction with Gate City's team camp. For anyone interested please fill free to send me a message. The AOA needs some younger legs. It doesn't pay very bad either.

The kicker to the Wise County schools has got to be Burton. If for whatever reason they decide to close them as well then you have some AA numbers. Which raises the question about Lee County who I believe is still AA numbers. You might have a very large district or two small ones.

All I can say is good for Christiansburg. Congrats on the season. People are haters. If you don't have haters, your not doing something right. I hope you all continue winning basketball and especially wrestling. Good Job

So you would like to see officials call it by the rule book? You would like to see officials call a Technical on a Coach for coaching outside the coaching box. How often do you see a coach outside his box during a game? Or how about the prewrap the girls wear on their head. Its supposed to be the same color. One girl can have black and another white. Does that make a difference in the game? No, but it is a rule. Officials can call everything, but it would be a boring game.

You answered your own question. There is no contact, no foul. A reach is simply a reach. Its like all the wonderful educated fans yelling over the back. No such thing. Stop yelling that. Does a plane fly over your house? Same concept.

I couldn't agree more. If you call that. You are asking for trouble.

First, No they didn't change a rule that if a player flops its a Tech. Its been in there for a long time under Faking. Second, coaches complain that officials call too much tic tac fouls and don't let them play. Block/Charge is the toughest call to make, I agree. There are situations where fouls can interupt the flow of a game. Like the ones where a defender tries to take a charge the offensive player tries to avoid contact. Which by doing so, almost everytime puts the offensive guy at a disadvantage. So, with that said, if there is contact with the offensive guy trying to avoid the charge and him at a disadvantage, it is a no call.

Ok first off good job Abingdon. Second I promise you all if the official was putting his arm around a kid it was to try and prevent something from happening later. Everyone reads too much into an officials actions. I know the crew on that game. All three at one point in time were college officials. Two currently are. The call at the end of the game, was 100% without a doubt a foul. Its a no call if the official bitches out and doesn't call it. We've talked about that play and there is no doubt the officials got it right. It takes balls to put air in the whistle with less than 10 seconds in the game. Its easy to let it go. River River Ridge is down this year. Abingdon has a good shot verse Hidden Valley tonight. Abingdon is a team that plays up or down to their competition. Play hard tonight boys.
