Donnie Jackson Head Coach at James Monroe Again

Confirmed it, he's the coach and he had a meeting with the team this week.

This almost certainly means the end of the single wing era in Monroe County.

We'll see if this is good or bad, hopefully he can make up from the playoff shortfalls of the late 90's and 2002.

I would say this is the best choice. Yes the single wing will be gone. May it RIP.

I'd rather face a Jackson coached JM team than a Whitt coached JM team any day of the week. The only downfall now is that within two years James Monroe's schedule will be creampuff central again and Bluefield will not be on it. He's probably already burning the midnight oil trying to get the likes of Montcalm, Summers County, Narrows, Independence, Midland Trail, Richwood, etc. James Monroe went from the verge of a state title back to where the program was five years ago, getting fat off regular season creampuffs and being too overweight to do anything noticeable in the playoffs.

BR whatever you're smoking could be bad for your health. lol...Do you really think Montcalm would play JM? You need to come over to Monroe County and get some of this fresh air. Come on over, I'll show you around... lol

If Don Jackson could get away with playing Montcalm he would. He's notorious for scheduling light to have a nice, shiny regular season record. David Whitt did a lot for James Monroe in-terms of improving the schedule and getting them battle tested for the playoffs. Jackson will, in all likelihood, undo what Whitt with the schedule as quickly as he can.

Even with the "upgrades" in JM's schedule, at least half of the teams on it were what I considered almost certain wins. We've had a few teams that have went downhill on the schedule the past few years, and a few others that are too sissyfied to play us, you being a Bluefield fan should understand that.

Summers, Grnbr West, Midland Trail, Narrows, and even Pikeview were decent several years ago but not recently.

Greebrier West and Giles plain chickened out, there's no if's ands or buts about that, so did Liberty and Shady, but they were lucky to beat us 10% of the time.

In 1999, JM had 3 AAA teams on the schedule, played Princeton when they were good, played Bluefield except for the years they were down, and played Wyoming East when they were great.

I think you'll be surprised. I don't believe you'll see Montcalm on the JM schedule anytime soon.

Then let me ask you this......Why did you guys not return any calls from Graham High School when we were looking for games? I seriously doubt Giles chickened out as you say. Narrows maybe, but certainly not Giles. Same old James Monroe you want that respect, but you don't want to earn it. I agree with Bluefield Rules totally.

I wouldn't say Giles chickened out at all. The stuff that kept happening at the Giles/JM games off the field got completely out of hand the last few years they played, and both schools decided not to play anymore because a few stupid "adult" fans couldn't control themselves.

The other thing, who was the third AAA team on the schedule in 1999? I remember East and Princeton, but I just can't recall the other one.

You're right, it was the adults on both sides that got out of hand. That is why we don't play each other.

There were two AAA. teams.

Oak Hill was AAA then.

As for "out of control" fans, the only thing I remember was in 1990 when the officiating crew broke Peterstown's winning streak and were escorted away. Other than that, I seriously would like to know what went on.

If it were upto me, we'd play Graham. Trust me, if we ain't afraid of Bluefield and Wayne, we're not scared of Graham. Like I said, I wish we did play them, as well as Princeton and Giles.

Hard to believe they beat us in the playoffs 2 years after that too. I wish they'd get it back together, I know they had some big games with Bluefield and Wyoming East back then as well.

The game where things really started to get out of hand was the game JM won at home 7-6 in the mid nineties, to break Giles long winning streak, there were multiple fights after that game, and pretty much every game after that stuff like that would go on in the parking lots before and after the game.

There probably weren't that many incidents, but it was bad enough that it just kind of overshadowed the game, and both schools had had enough of it.

Well that's a simple solution, arrest the ones involved and ban them from going to FB games for their respective teams for 1 year.

I've never been one to believe that you punish everyone because of 1 or 2 idiots, but that seems to happen from time to time.

I agree with you, we probably should still playing, but after talking to people from both schools over the years, the administrations of both schools were just kind of afraid of it getting worse and worse.

If nothing else, the fact that the schools gave up on that big of a gate every two years tells you they were taking it seriously.

I remember that 7-6 game. Giles was so sure they would beat us. When they didn't, things got out of hand. A lot of talk went on that week of the game. A lot of money was bet on the game also.

As for me, I'm glad we don't play Giles anymore. I believe the same thing would happen again......

I guess my question offensively will be who's going to play QB over the next few years?

I know there will be elements of the single wing in Donnie's offense, they ran some of that stuff his last few years there anyway.

Are there any younger guys who were good QB's from the middle schools?

My understanding is it will either be Robertson or John Ballengee, possibly both.

As far as QB's out of the middle schools I'm not sure right now.

Jackson ran the single wing a litte, but it was usually due to injury or nothing else working. It definetly won't remain the primary offense for long, if at all.
