VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 It passed muster with the WVSSAC - now the state BoE must vote. http://www.wvgazette.com/Sports/PrepSports/200804081509
the_truth 10 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 Just looked at at the numbers and this is just speculation on my part. The SSAC tries to find big gaps in enrollment when they split classes, while trying to keep the classes fairly equal. There are always more A teams than AAA. I could see them taking Saint Albans and up for AAAA (27 teams), which means Princeton would be AAAA. Oak Glen and up for AAA (36) teams, which means Bluefield would be AAA. Midland Trail and up for AA (28 teams) Iaeger, Mount View, Summers County and Wheeling Central. Wirt County and down A (40 teams). Montcalm and Big Creek. GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 If they are going to do it, they should do it in 1/4 splits. The article mentioned "being fair" for all schools...1/4 splits is the only "fair" way to do it...
the_truth 10 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 I agree but they dont do it that way. Right now they have 40 AAA, 40 AA, and 51 A.
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 [ QUOTE ] Gillispie said similar sentiment was brewing Monday during the discussion period of the meeting before SSAC attorney Bill Wooten read a statement that reminded member schools it was in the state code that all SSAC members must be treated equally. [/ QUOTE ] How is having 40 in AAA, 40 in AA, and 51 in A treating all SSAC members "equally"??? Honestly, it sounds and looks as if a certain school from the northern panhandle is getting preferential treatment by being "allowed" to play in a class lower than it should...and you know who I'm talking about. (Hint: They have one of the highest enrollments in Class A EVERY YEAR and win just about every championship in Class A EVERY YEAR. They also can take in kids from multiple school districts in the northern panhandle and from the state of Ohio. How is that "equal" for all the other Class A schools?) They should have 33 schools in AAAA, 33 schools in AAA, 33 schools in AA, and 32 schools in A.
futbolking 766 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 Would Bluefield still be AA under this system?
GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 some current AAA schools have the student population numbers that would make them equivalent to a AAAA school in another state, but since most dont, they have been kept in AAA in WV. I cant see Princeton being moved up to AAAA along with the other current AAA schools that are because Princeton has the second lowest student # population of AAA schools. I could both Princeton and Nitro staying in AAA while most others move into the AAAA classification.
the_truth 10 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 Wow GMAN me and you agree on something. I say we get Wheeling Central accepted to play in Ohio or Pennsylvania. Getmoney I dont know where you get your numbers but Princetons enrollment is 25 out of 40 current AAA for next year. http://www.wvssac.org/new_site/wvssac_we...desandclass.htm

edrforshey 27 Report Share Posted April 11, 2008 The project cut offs for 4 classes was 32 schools in each class. Its suppose to be in the proposal as such after the debate before they voted at the WV Board of controls meeting. (principals) It comes out 32, 32, 33, 33 in some order or other.
