tbgfan 856 Report Share Posted March 12, 2009 Final: Bland County 56, Narrows 42 VHSL BASKETBALL SEMIFINALS GROUP A DIVISION 1 GIRLS FINAL: Bland County 56, Narrows 42 Laurel Hankins scored 16 points and Kirby Mustard added 11 as Bland County built a 24-point lead in the third quarter and held on for a 56-42 victory over Narrows at VCU's Siegel Center to qualify for a state final for the first time. Bland County (22-6) led 44-20 late in the third quarter before Narrows trimmed the margin to 10 points at 50-40 with 3:40 to play. Hankins answered with a three-point play and the Bears were safely in today's 3 p.m. final against defending Division 1 champion Buffalo Gap. Morgan Buckland scored 13 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 15 for Narrows (19-10). Freshman Savanna Burton added 10 points but scored just two in the second half. Cameron Snidow also had 10 for Narrows. Bland County's win was its fourth in five games against its Mountain Empire District rival. Kirby Mustard added 11 points, seven rebounds and six steals and Kristin Dunn had nine points and six rebounds for the Bears, who led 44-22 after three quarters before Narrows outscored them 20-12 in fourth to close the gap. Morgan Buckland led Narrows (19-10) with 15 points, 13 in the fourth quarter. Savannah Buron added 10 points and nine rebounds and Cameron Snidow contributed 10 points for the Wave. Bland County (22-6) will play defending state champions Buffalo Gap for the state title tomorrow at 2 p.m. Buffalo Gap beat Franklin 56-47 in the other state semifinal.
