GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted May 8, 2009 I'm trying to figure out why everyone is making such a big deal out of this. ALL professional stadiums are named after a sponsor of some type. Is it because of the name? Is it because its a beer? Is it because of Jimmy Buffett? Someone 'splain it to me...
Hacker 82 Report Share Posted May 8, 2009 I don't see the problem. The Brewers play in Miller Park, and the Cardinals play in Busch Stadium. The biggest sponsor of professional sporting events for year's have been the beer companies. It smells of hypocracy and discrimination against Parrotheads. bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted May 8, 2009 I honestly don't know the bid deal either GMan. It's just a name of the staidum, like everybody else .

Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted May 8, 2009 Why? A. He's not a big fan of corporate sponsorships of stadiums/bowl games. B. He thinks Jimmy Buffet is wildly overrated. C. He's going to think that this name for a stadium is ignorant. Especially as the Dolphins play in it.

GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted May 8, 2009 And the Dolphins have far more history. :P But all that "history" was at the Orange Bowl, which is no more...
bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted May 9, 2009 Do the Marlins really need their own stadium? I mean honestly. They cant even fill it up halfway now, why build them their own?
GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted May 9, 2009 This stadium has changed names 6 times in its 16 year existence. It's getting pathetic.
bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted May 11, 2009 Oh well.... Does it bother people that much that they keep renaming it? I mean lets be honest Oh no...I just learned that they called it pro-player stadium, but now it's Joe Robbie. I'm never going to learn the correct name... Not a big deal at all... bhs7695 185 Report Share Posted May 11, 2009 I still call it Joe Robbie and I still refer the San Francisco 49ers home field as Candlestick Park. It’s just easier and I'm getting sick of corporate sponsors as well and their names as sports arenas and stadiums. I'm still waiting for Jim Weaver to sell the name of Lane Stadium to Sprint Wireless (so the fans can call plays from the stands), Viagra (so you can "raise" your level of play), or something else stupid like that. Isn't it Providence that plays in Dunkin Doughnuts arena?

GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted May 11, 2009 or Butterball I'd prefer Wild Turkey Stadium but since JW did away with the "Home of the Fighting Gobblers" sign, it just wouldn't be the same...
bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted May 11, 2009 I mean, it's just like Futbol teams over in Europe that have their sponsors on the front of their jerseys. Like Arsenal FC's is Fly Emirates, and Chelsea FC's sponsor of the front of their jerseys is Samsung Mobile Just another sponsor
