Worst Managed NFL Franchises

I had this thought pop into my mind earlier as I heard much debate on various sports talks shows about whether or not the Jets should bench Geno Smith. One of the commentators pointed out that the Jets haven't really given Geno many offensive weapons to use even though they have 20 million in cap space. I just feel like there are certain franchises that are so mis-mannaged that the blame should be laid on the owners and front office rather than on the players. These teams are constantly getting excited about flashy draft picks or trades with hopes it will change the fortune of the team but it rarely does because of the incompetent front office. Here are my top 5 mis-managed franchises. Curious to hear yours.

1. Raiders

2. Jets

3. Jags

4. Browns

5.Redskins

The Jets made 2 consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances not too long ago.  Don't know if I'd consider them one of the worst 5.

I'm shocked at the amount of incompetency in NFL front offices.  It's like they make decisions the same way that Congress made decisions about the U.S. economy in South Park.  But there are some franchises who are especially ignorant:

(1) Browns.  Bottom of the barrel.

(2) Redskins.  Should be #1 on the strength of the RGIII trade alone, but still, Cleveland's worse.

(3) Jaguars.  They are probably #1, but no one cares enough to rank them that lowly.

(4) Lions.  Historical incompetence, and the 0-16 thing.  Bonus points for being not dog meat lately.

(5) Raiders.  Made a Super Bowl 13 seasons ago, but the Crazy Man's dead now, so they'll improve.

Jerry Jones has killed the Cowboys...plain and simple.  Amazing to me how ignorant the man is.  Pompous beyond belief of course.  Can the man not see in the time that he has owned the team they haven't done crap.  The only common denominator is Jerry himself.  Has more money than sense.

Daniel Snyder and Washington have to be first with a bullet!  They are not only a downtrodden organization but they are bringing down other organizations as well.  Failure to address the nickname of the organization has caused government to suspend the NFL's tax exempt status, thus causing organizations like Jacksonville and Cleveland to have less money to not spend on talent.

Whether you agree or disagree, it is an issue for the entire league.

Can you share where it has been reported that the government has suspended the NFL's tax exempt status? I read an article written yesterday that said a congressman from NJ had propsed the government consider that move but it didn't seem like it had already taken place. Also, the article seemed to focus more on the domestic violence woes the NFL is dealing with and mentioned nothing about the Redskins mascot name controversy. Just wondering where you had heard that?

Also in my book the Skins rank near the top of this list because of the coaching Carousel of 9 different coaches since Joe Gibbs stepped down (the first time) after the 1992 season and poor personal management (see drafting RGIII as one example). The mascot name controversy has nothing to do with the state of the Redskins organization woes in my opinion.

I got my salacious media topics confused.  They lost the trademark rights to the name but the tax exemption status is still a proposal.  I still think it applies to organizational ineptness.  Snyder seem to be willing to burn the house down around everyone in an attempt to have his opinion be right.

Dallas doesent belong on the list, the 'Boys have had some players not work out but Jerry hasnt destroyed the team. Dallas has been low for a few years but this low streak has been 3 8-8 seasons. Thats not bad when compared to

Jacksonville

Cleveland

Oakland

Washington

NY Jets / Detroit

Jags could've had Russell Wilson they took a punter before he was selected. He is 7-0 against Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rogers, and Tom Brady with 14 tds and 1 int. :) they are the LA Clippers of my formative years, Draft 1st every year yet still finish last.

I only revisit this topic because 3 of the 5 worst franchises that I listed have been in the news lately for benching starting QB's. The Jets went with Geno, then benched him for Vick and now they are back to Geno. The Skins benched McCoy after he lead them to victory in Dallas and now they are coming back to him after they started to realize how big of a bust RG3 is. McCoy played well in spite of the loss this past Sunday btw. And then there are the Browns. You have Hoyer who has been fairly solid and you are in the hunt for a wildcard spot but you bench him with just a few weeks to go and put in your rookie rockstar Johnny football. I wouldn't want to play for any of these teams. You have my sympathy if you are a fan of any of these teams lol.
