Stranger danger 41 Report Share Posted December 12, 2021 Why did they use the play clock in the second game(1A), but not the first game (2A)?

1inStripes 932 Report Share Posted December 12, 2021 Historically the VHSL has asked for play clocks to be off beginning in the state semis.

I talked to a guy today that used to ref. He told me he thought they could only use play clocks in the finals if both teams had play clocks at their home fields. If one or neither had them, they wouldn't be used in the title game.

I worked one state final where both home teams had play clocks and we were told they werent allowed. Same goes for a couple of state semifinals. Hopefully they are relaxing that policy. S10SQUAREBODY4LIFE 239 Report Share Posted December 14, 2021 During 2A game, Didn't notice that but did notice a couple of times the refs marked off penalties from outside the hashes, then spotted the ball on the hashes. Bassackwards maybe

It seems like it's a huge help, esp for the HS kids.
1inStripes 932 Report Share Posted December 14, 2021 You would think. As an official I would say I wasnt as big of a fan of play clocks as I was keeping it on the field, mostly for blowout games, but in a game like that I agree.
