Galax is coming into the season having recently played in the PGA of America National High School Invitational in Frisco Texas July 17-19. Galax placed 32 out of 50 schools from all over the country. Most of the top schools were private schools featuring golf academies with players recruited from all across the country.

T29 - Grayden Laird 70-80-73 = 223
T69 - Carson Iroler 74-80-76 = 230
T141 - Talan Gentry 77-84-78 = 239
290 - Adam Dillon 89-103-92 = 284
T299 - Jedd McGrady 101-107-88 = 296

The tournament was played across 3 courses. Galax played Fields Ranch West (17th), Fields Ranch East (18th), and The Tribute (19th). Temperatures were between 104-109 degrees everyday with winds gusting upwards of 40 MPH on day two of the tournament. The winds ballooned the field scoring average to well over 80. Grayden distinguished himself finishing tied for 29th in a field of over 350 players and has since received several contacts from D1 colleges. He won a Tarheel Junior Golf Tour event in Raleigh NC back in June with rounds of 70-65 for a -9 under par total. That tournament was held at Lonnie Poole, which is NC State's home facility.

Galax rising sophomore Carson Iroler recorded a hole-in-one on the first day of the tournament in Frisco. Link attached.

I've been saying it for years. There is enough homegrown talent in greater SWVA for the likes of VT and Radford to field exceptional women's golf programs. A trio of amazing freshmen led Radford University to their first team championship since 2010. All three of those freshmen are from greater SWVA.

Macy Johnson - Salem High School - Big South freshman of the week last week and Big South player of the week this week. She fired rounds of 73-70-68 = 211 to win Individual medalist honors in only her second career collegiate start. She was T8 in her college debut last week.

Grace Addison - Abingdon High School - Fired rounds of 72-71-74 = 217 in her second college event. She finished T26 in her college debut last week.

Mckenzie Weddle - Floyd County High School - After a rocky start, she bounced back to push her team over the top for a victory. She finished 80-77-70 = 227. She was T19 in her college debut last week.

These three, along with fellow freshman Caroline Gilreath of Patrick Henry - Roanoke are going to push each other to some pretty special places over the next 4 years.

looks like 2D was well represented once again at the state tournament.  Lee winning and I believe they return their entire team next season.  Should be interesting since they beat Floyd at their home course and will have to travel back there again if they want to do it.  good luck and congratulations.  How many 2D State Golf champions have we had in the past several years?

The 2D teams to win state championships prior to this year, Graham in 2013 and Union in 2018.

Yes, Lee returns their entire team next year and will only lose one next year.  So they are set up for the next couple of seasons

If any team can find 4 kids to shoot 80, they've got a shot.  Anything under 80 for a young kid is just extra.  Heck, I'd be happy staying at 80 lol.

I agree.  Lee's top 5 shot 78, 79, 80, 81, and 82
