Grundy 36 Hanover 40 Grundy 44 Bullis 33 Grundy 31 Hayfield 37 Grundy 8 Tallwood 60 Grundy 32 Garfield 41 To see complete results, go to: http://www.grundywrestlingclub.com/hanovrrslts.htm Christiansburgwrestled in one of the toughest individual tournaments in the U.S. Christiansburg placed 11th as a team out of thirty teams, with many teams ranked nationally! Christiansburg had two wrestlers place it the top 6 respectfully in their individual weight classes: Matt Epperly, a sophomore with a record of 9-1 was Runner-up in the 140 lb. weight class, while senior teammate Jackie Toney(7-3) came in with a 6th place finish. Team champions-Blair Academy is presently ranked #1 in the nation. Other teams in Virginia included: Colonial Forge(23rd in the tournament), Great Bridge(ranked #6 nationally-5th in the tournament) West Virginia teams included: Parkersburg(ranked #34 nationally-6th in the tournament), and Parkersburg South(finished 14th in the tournament). Carroll County competed in the Broadway Gobbler Invitational, and finished 7th of 9 teams. Placers included: Josh Hancock-119 lbs. finished 4th. Kermit Hundley-125 lbs. finished 3rd. Brock Bowman-130 lbs. finished 4th. While J.R. South-140 lbs. finished 3rd. Christiansburg B Team also competed in this tournament finishing Runner-up to Turner Ashby. CBurg B Team had several finish in the top 4 in their respective weight class. Virginia High and Blacksburg competed in the Titan Toughman this weekend. Blacksburg finished 6th, while Va. High finished 12th in a 15 team field. Lord Botetourt won the team championship, while Northside was runner-up. Fieldale-Collinsville wrestled in the Eden Holiday Classic at Morehead H.S.,N.C. The team finished 21st out of 23 teams with Jonathan Pace placing 6th at 112 lbs. gmenfootball 10 Report Share Posted December 15, 2003 Has Grundy declined in the past few years?Because I can remember years ago,Grundy beat everbody,on the mat..Who is giving them trouble when they go to the state matches?DO they have the same coach they used to have?Just curious.. lowsingle 10 Author Report Share Posted December 15, 2003 They have a very young team this year. It also looked like they didn't have every weight class filled. The team is coached by 2 time all-american Travis Fiser. He is an excellent coach! They should have a pretty solid team this year-they do have every weight class filled. The team used to be coached by Kevin Dresser. He is also an excellent coach! Dresser currently coaches at Christiansburg(AA state champs for the past two years). Dresser was also a 2 time all-american (one of those years he was a national champion). Both were coached by Dan Gable, one of the finest wrestlers/coaches ever. Christiansburg did win the title for the past two years, but Grundy was Runner-up both years. Grundy has won it the following times:1978, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996(this year they had 9 state champs, 3 runner-up, and 2 3rd-all 14weight classes in the top three), 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001. Christiansburg won it in 2002 and 2003. Lance 228 Report Share Posted December 15, 2003 For what it's worth...I don't think Grundy took everyone to this tourney because of the flu, could be wrong about that, but that's what I heard...someone told me they let a few of the younger guys to get some experience, if you look at the results on the Grundy website you'll see some strange names in the Grundy slots. I expect them to be in the running for state again this year and they have all of the weight classes filled from what I understand as opposed to last year where they were missing a few.
