Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted August 7, 2004 http://www.bdtonline.com/articles/2004/08/07/sports/01satbradshaw.txt Bradshaw looking at options Posted: Friday, Aug 06, 2004 - 11:41:45 pm EDT By GARY FAUBER for the Daily Telegraph Ahmad Bradshaw, a former 2,000-yard rusher at Graham High School, visited the Marshall campus last week, according to his father. "We went down and talked to them, but right now we don't know anything," James Bradshaw told The Register-Herald. "We talked to them on the campus." Bradshaw signed with the University of Virginia in February after he was ranked the 25th-best running back prospect in the nation. However, he was dismissed from the team for the 2004 season after his arrest last month in Charlottesville on misdemeanor charges of underage alcohol possession and obstruction of justice. Reportedly, Bradshaw admitted to possessing an alcoholic beverage when he was stopped by Charlottesville city police at 1:50 a.m. July 18. Police allege he gave the name of a dead man when asked his identity, then fled the scene on foot. Bradshaw was apprehended after a foot chase of about a quarter-mile and was taken to jail. He was released on personal recognizance bond later that same day. Speculation is that UVa coach Al Groh was under pressure to make an example of Bradshaw. The university wanted to avoid the bad publicity plaguing Virginia Tech after quarterback Marcus Vick's legal troubles. Bradshaw, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, was highly recruited after he rushed for more than 2,000 yards two consecutive years, the first player in Virginia to do so. As a senior he rushed for 2,557 yards and 34 touchdowns for the G-Men. He was the state's Group AA player of the year as a junior. The Cavaliers signed him as a running back and cornerback - the latter at which he was rated the country's 28th-best prospect. Bradshaw was also an all-state basketball player. In January, he set a Mountain State Coal Classic scoring record in the Class AAA boys division, scoring 42 points against Capital. Bradshaw would be eligible to play this fall, according to his father. He was enrolled in summer school at UVa, but did not complete the course. James Bradshaw said he and his son plan to make more visits next week, but declined to name schools. "I would rather not say right now," he said. Marshall players report to campus Sunday. They will practice Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday's practice will run from 9 a.m. until noon, followed by Media Day beginning at noon. Travis Tatman, a quarterback from Paint Valley High School in Bainbridge, Ohio, will attend Marshall as a preferred walk-on, the Chillicothe Gazette reported Friday. Tatman set school records last year, completing 282 of 353 passes (60 percent, also a record) for 3,054 yards. He also completed 27 passes in one game last October. Paint Valley is about 20 miles from Chillicothe High School, alma mater of current Thundering Herd backup QB Jimmy Skinner. Forward Eric Smith has decided to leave the Marshall basketball team, school officials announced Friday. Smith, who joined the Thundering Herd before last season as a junior college transfer from John A. Logan College in Illinois, averaged 5.1 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. "Eric has informed us of his intentions to transfer," coach Ron Jirsa said in a release. "We wish him well in his future basketball endeavors." - Contact Gary Fauber at gfauber@register-herald.com
CougarFan 10 Report Share Posted August 7, 2004 Bradshaw was the first player in Virginia to rush for over 2,000 yards two consecutive years? Didn't Thomas Jones rush for over 3,000 yards two consecutive years?
DMan 10 Report Share Posted August 7, 2004 You are correct. Thomas Jones had 3,314yds in 1994 and 3,007yds in 1995. He also holds the records for total career and season TDs with 104 TDs and 49 TDs respectively. Sounds like the guys at the BDT need to do their homework before making claims like that. Bluefield_Rules 46 Author Report Share Posted August 7, 2004 [ QUOTE ] Sounds like the guys at the BDT need to do their homework before making claims like that. [/ QUOTE ] Actually the article was written by a writer with the Beckley Register Herald. Nevertheless, if you have ever read the BDT then you know they get a lot of facts wrong...lol
