waveman92 10 Report Share Posted October 17, 2004 i dont really believe that i can guess on this one at all. but if i had to i would say that it would be pv in a really close one. here are some reasons why pv will win instead of the blue devils: 1) powell valley came out firing in the clintwood game and beat their drum good, I expect them to do the same here. 2) i think that powell valley has the talent and the experience to beat the devils. if robins has a great game then the team will have a great game. why the blue devils can win: 1)it is at home. hardtrail 10 Report Share Posted October 17, 2004 Yes Folks, this is a game you dont wanna miss! Two power houses will go at it this Friday for a hard hitting game of the week. Who will win this game of powerhouse teams? Gatecity is undeafeated while Powell Valley has given up only one lose. We cant look at who has beaten what teams in the past, nor by how much. We all know that on these cool-chilly Friday evenings that anything and everything can happen, for instance (Coeburn beating Pound.) Not that there is an underdog between the two . Robbins has the arm and the team to back him but, Gatecity will take the win by 14 points. Its just the shere "Guts and Blood" drive that will give the Bluedevils the edge. See ya at the game! Cola 10 Report Share Posted October 17, 2004 I'll go on a limb and pick Gate City, not because they beat Richlands, They are at the top and they want to stay there. All the props in the world to the challenger Powell Valley. Very strong team with only one loss to a Power House. Should be the game to watch in Southwest Virginia. would love to catch it but I'll be at Va High watching the Blues.
Lance 228 Report Share Posted October 18, 2004 Believe it or not...and a lot of you guys said I was crazy for saying it...but Clintwood had the best chance to beat GC last week....didn't happen...was closer than people thought, but GC won. I had my reasons for picking Clintwood, but they made to many mistakes. Â I am going with: Â GC 28 PV 22 Â I would love to see this game... king_james 10 Author Report Share Posted October 18, 2004 Which team has the "edge" in the following areas: (1) Quarterback; (2) Running Backs; (3) Receivers; (4) Offensive Line; (5) Defensive Line; (6) Linebackers; (7) Defensive Backs; (8) Special Teams; (9) Intangibles??? Justify your reasoning! Here's mine to get the ball rolling! Â (1) Quarterback: Big edge to Powell Valley!!! Robbins has passed for over 1,500 yards, around 20 TD passes and has completed about 70% of his passes...Price has done an admirable job replacing Spivey but is not the runner or passer Spivey was. (2) Running Back: Even...If you simply went by yardage, the Devils would have the edge with Will and Luke Humphreys, but McKinney is strong runner who has the speed to score when he gets the ball, while GC is more a ball control team. (3) Receivers: Big edge to Powell Valley!!!Juhan, Zirkle, Lawson, White & Keegan are all big play receivers with speed, who run great pass routes, who have soft hands and can turn short passes into long gainers...If GC expects to win, they have to tackle well...Contrary to popular opinion, Gate City can throw the ball and has capable receivers in Shepard, Castle and McMurray...Price has thrown 8 touchdown passes and it was his arm that won the Richlands game. (4) Offensive Line: Slight edge to Powell Valley...It all starts upfront and PV's veteran O/L, which average 242 pounds, has protected Brad to the tune of 45.6 pts per game...GC had to replace its entire offensive line with the notable exception of Zack Jones, but has done a great job putting together a big, (avg. 261 pounds) tough, physical group who open the holes for the backs. (5) Defensive Line: Edge to Gate City...The Devils' defensive line, which averages 238 pounds, has three returning starters, (Jones, Williams & McClain) is a physical group whose gets first priority is to stop the run and has done so very well this year. Last season, GC's offensive line dominated the Vikings' defensive line and will undoubtedly try to do so this year, control the clock and keep PV's offense off the field. Some fans consider PV's DL soft but forget that Robinette, Ashley and Ely's main job is to keep blockers off the linebackers and let the LB's make tackles. (6) Linebackers: Even...The strength of Powell Valley's defense is their linebackers and Pleasants, Spurlock & McKinney have a wonderful blend of speed and strength. Peoples often underestimate the quality of Gate City's linebackers, but Spivey, Humphreys and the others are very aggressive and strong and pursue and gangtackles from sideline to sideline. (7) Defensive backs: Edge to Powell Valley...Powell Valley's DB's have the edge in speed, athleticism and experience...Humphreys has experience and intelligence at safety but lacks the speed to cover deep...Even last season, the Devils lacked good cover corners and have two new DBs this season...However I will note that teams have only completed 25% of their passes against GC this year, although I suspect they haven't played any real passing teams and certainly none as good as the Vikings. (8) Special Teams: Slight edge to Powell Valley...Punting, punts and kickoff returns appear even to me...The reason I think PV has the edge is that GC appears to have missed an unusually high number of PATs this season. (9) Intangibles: Even...Homefield advantage for Gate City vs. Revenge of Powell Valley for losing four (4) straight to the Devils. Â Â im goin with Pv in this one..i think their o-line will hold up the heavy pass rush of the blue devils to give robbins enough time to find his speedy recievers
Howdyfans 12 Report Share Posted October 18, 2004 THE SWVa BOWL!!!!!! Yes Sir-ee!! This will be the best of the best on the field Friday night. Although GC has played to an undefeated season thus far. They will not win this one! If GC can take away the air attack it will be close. But I don't think they will be able to do so. But even if they do look out for Patrick McKinney in the rushing game. He's a big strong back and loves to run at people. This kid doesn't dodge. It's all North and South. He's not had many carries at all this year compared to last season. He has a good average and has awesome strength up the middle. The receiving corps is the most talented group I have seen in Region D in at least 17 or 18yrs. PV also has the best linebackers in the Region. They will absolutely hit, hit, hit, and hit. Alot of punishing blows from these guys, and unfortunately for the victims, have put some backs on the sidelines for the rest of the night. People want to bring up the past games. CAN'T GO THERE! GC has had two tough battles this year. One with Richlands and one with Clintwood. Powell Valley has had one with the #2 AA team from KY in Breathitt Co. Again, you can't bring these up. Both teams are past this now and it will be whoever brings their A game OCT. 22 PV WILL BE THE ONE TO DO SO, that's why I'm sticking to the prediction I made about three or four weeks ago. PV-35 GC-
broady 12 Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 PV is tough no doubt. GC was flat last week with CW. GC want be flat this week. GC wins 28-

PVhas8 10 Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 Howdyfans' predictions are the best and closest I have seen week in and week out on the message board this season. I'm going with PV like him as well, don't know if they will win as big as he says. You've been darn close every week Howdy, with the exception of one game. I will say PV-21 GC-13. Looking forward to seeing how your seedings in the playoffs in Division 2 and Division 1 turn out as well Mr. Howdy. And if your predicted State Champs will actually be the ones to take it all. WHAT'S YOUR SECRET?? OR DO YOU USE A FORMULA OF SOME KIND??

hardtrail 10 Report Share Posted October 19, 2004 I'll go half way with you Lance, Clintwood was impressive and should have jogged up more points. In my honest opinion, The bluedevils will be more inspired to win against the Vikes because so many think they cant! But im with you here Lance, the "Bluedevils bring home the win!" See you at the game.

GC_Quincy 582 Report Share Posted October 20, 2004 Thanks Cola. Good luck to you guys as well. If GC can play ball control and control the T.O.P., I look for them to win a close one 34-28. If they give Robbins time to throw we'll be in trouble.
