beaverbaseball 10 Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 As most of us know Wheeling Island Stadium has just recently this year put in Turf. So do you think this will make a big difference in the running game or passing game. Atleast it won't be muddy if the conditions are bad! Someone told me that they have to get new kind of cleats to play on it but im not for sure, do any of you all know?
WayneFanatic 10 Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 We have played on a Turf field twice this season
Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 I know one thing; I'm stoked to see our guys play on an artificial surface in the state championship game. The turf should make for a fast track and that's plays directly into Bluefield's hands...
beaverbaseball 10 Author Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 I agree because we have the speed
zach 10 Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 Yeah you have to get new type of cleats made for turf, b/c if u use cleats it will mess up the field bad. the cleats are kinda like rubber cleats, but the tips r molded down. most places dont have them. i would hate to be on that field at the end of the season. beaverbaseball 10 Author Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 Well i wonder if both teams will have to go out and buy new cleats? because that could be quite expensive but hey look its the State Championship
bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 Well this one is for all the marbles
convertedbeaver 10 Report Share Posted December 1, 2004 the type of turf they have at wheeling is a grass turf. it isn't like regular astroturf, it is like fake grass and they can use the cleats they have now.
Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted December 1, 2004 It's the same stuff, field turf, that Mountaineer Field in Morgantown has installed...
bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted December 1, 2004 Lets just hope they dont play like wvu in this game being the heavy favorite and letting it slip alway

BeaverHokie 35 Report Share Posted December 1, 2004 [ QUOTE ] From what i could see the field looks alot different and alot better then last year [/ QUOTE ] That is much better than the mudhole I've seen there previously. But then again, the whole Wheeling championship thing STILL chaps my backside, how they have locked in control of having the state championship at what is probably the most remote location in West Virginia (save for Martinsburg). I think the championship ought to be in Charleston, or perhaps at the site of the #1 team (they used to do this, Bluefield won in 1975 in Mitchell). beaverbaseball 10 Author Report Share Posted December 1, 2004 I agree that they should play it in Charleston I think if you played at the #1 teams stadium that they would have to big of a advantage
bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted December 1, 2004 I think it would be cool to have it at our home talking about crowds....i say there would be way more fans then at any beaver-graham game
beaverbaseball 10 Author Report Share Posted December 1, 2004 Yea that is true But i think the fair way would be to put the championship in Charleston
