wavefan64 10 Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 Are you talking about the rebel flag that is actually painted on top of the cliff in the far endzone? If it is, I would like to know how in the world they painted it too...lol I would assume they painted it out of boom truck or something, but you never know! wavefan64 10 Report Share Posted January 2, 2005 That's cool, I remember somebody telling me that's how they did it. It would be pretty hard to get a bucket up there anyway now that I think about it....lol Bluefield Rocks, I would say at one time it was one of the toughest places to play at around. Just a good atmosphere. Roughty fans, plus a rough field, and a name like "The Cliff" makes it pretty intimidating. Mom went to school at Hurley, and she talks about some of the games when she went to school got pretty wild. It is truly a piece of SWVA football history. Oh yeah, good work BigD4VT! Hillbilly 14 Report Share Posted January 3, 2005 If they painted faces on those rocks the opposing team would freak out....be like playing in Nehlen Stadium before 120,000 people.
Guest BB_TWEEDER Report Share Posted January 4, 2005 Back when Hurley was in there glory days my dad told me and players from those days told me that the stands would be packed and that ppl was lined all arounmd the fences 3 and 4 rows deep and that ppl would set on top of "THE CLIFF" and watch the games.. Now thats sometin to see.
HHS_FOOTBALL 10 Report Share Posted January 10, 2005 the flag is on top of "The Cliff" because a man and his son used to repel on the cliff and when they got there they would paint the flag.
