  1. Princeton 65 yd touchdown pass against Bridgeport in the mid first qtr. 7-0 Princeton leads in the WV AAA semi final game.
  2. Reg 2A Title Game: Late 1st qtr, Poquoson 16, Amelia County 0
  3. Absolutely. I've said this for years. Yes, the cleats thing and really ugly personal choices when he was still not even 36 years old and that doesn't excuse it, but many either forgot or don't know the brain power of this cat on the field/xs and os. I've seen a many of em because I'm older, and I haven't seen any at the HS level better than Vaught. I've seen a many of em just as good, but not better. Said this for years, an absolute "Field Wizzard" for HS football. Again, me talking about his on field coaching ability and a justification for his behavior are entirely 2 different things.
  4. 100 percent agree. 110 percent agree of its possible. 2006 through 2008, VT s offenses ranked outside of 100th in America and Beamer kept him. Fans outraged and remember the Hokie Hotline calls and the famous call from "Jason" in Northern Va. "Coach Beamer, I know we are winning ACC titles and our overall record is solid, but dont you think that if we had an offense just ranked in the top 30, we might have a shot at a national title and what changes are you willing to make because it seems Bud Foster is carrying the load for Coach Stinespring." If anyone recalls, Beamer went off on the caller. Stiney should have been fired at the end of 2006, then 2007, then even 2008! What did Beamer do? He doubled down and kept him. In 2012ish, the fan outrage reached a point to where we kind of hired a new OC in unproven Scott Loeffler. Stiney wasn't fired. Stiney was assigned to set directly beside him in the coaches box! LMAO. It was laughable and of course, the fans bought it hook and sinker and started blaming Loeffler when the defacto OC was still setting directly beside him in the press box. The biggest flaw or mistake Beamer made at VT that in my opinion, and we have still never fully recovered from it and that is keeping Stinespring for a good 5 to 6 years after he should have been fired. With that written, Beamer did far more good and his stent as HC of VT was obviously a gigantic success and I'm grateful to have had him.
  5. 2 Takes From the Above. The first is...Dennis Vaught would be about 66 years old today. Number two, Va Tech hired the wrong guy and should have taken Vaught instead of Stiney. StIney never took credit for a bad offense or bad game or his 102nd nationally ranked offenses for over 3 years in a row. He would simply blame "execution."
  6. Lot of close games throughout VA, but looking at those scores, it shows the divide in Region A, Class 2. It's simply Poquoson and King William (who played last week) and everybody else or...nobody else. They are the largest favorite in Virginia this weekend favored by 32 over Amelia. This game will be a running clock. I don't think its within 32.
  7. Its really laughable. They might hold 250 people. And they are on the goal line on the sideline in the back. It's going to be a mess with Glenvar coming to town. They've already had complaints. There are some at Radford who are dead set against moving the semifinals game also and that's where the VHSL will have to step in, but they will not step in unless the Union/Graham AD speaks up.
  8. Their stadium is top notch. It's a really nice stadium and one of the nicer ones in all of the coverage area. But earlier in the year, they discovered a crack in the foundation of the visitor stands, so they have been condemned and the beauracrats tool over from there regarding timing, fixing it, funding, etc. Since then, they have put portable little metal bleachers down on the sidelines beyond where the visiting team stands on the sideline and it's a crapshow. The visitor stands can't be occupied until fixed and they are empty. Radfords stadium, the seating on both sides would remind you of Gate City regarding size. Very nice.......when both sides are open, but the issue is what to do if Radford wins against Glenvar as only 1 side is open and they will not be fixed until next year.
  9. Union Fans or Swvahavok, do you all know if WCBY will have the Union-Graham game? It would be a whole lot nicer on WCBY and their production compared to NHFS.
  10. I forget the connection, but former VT OC Bryan Stinespring was an assistant at Lexington under Vaught and HC of VT Brett Pry played for them, but graduated the year before Lexington won that state title
  11. Phoebus 34, Warhiill 26? Wow. I know Warhill is tough, but Phoebus has given up 18 points all year. Giving up 18 points in 1 game plus another 8 points added to that in one game would really surprise me.
  12. GW and Galax are no slouches and have a history of winning and I'm a Region C guy. I hope Galax wins the whole thing, but Honaker is "Radfordish" on offense and GW/Galax will have one heck of a time beating them. I know Sussex, Essex and Altavista are good and I have no idea if they beat Honaker...IF Honaker is the team from the west, but I promise you this, Honaker will score......alot, win or lose even if it's Essex. They have a dynamic and explosive Offense at the Class 1 level. If Galax doesn't win it, I will root for Honaker because I like Tiller. Tiller is a heck of a coach. I've always liked him going back to his time at F.Chiswell.
  13. Great chance, but I would take the field. Purely my opinion here, but I give Radford the best chance. I put Union, Graham, Riverheads, Central, and Poquoson all with the same or similar chance and all certainly good enough. I think 6 teams can win it. I don't think Glenvar and Amelia are good enough. So, Riverheads is definitely good enough to win it, but got to take the field because of parity. If the Red team were to win it, no surprise to me, nor any of the 6 teams mentioned. Riverheads is class act and has an incredible program that is good because not just 1, but hundreds of people in that community have put the work in and they deserve to be darn good, and darn good they are.
  14. It's pretty cool seeing Rye Cove in the region finals. Has Rye Cove ever played in the state semi's? What is the furthest Rye Cove has gotten?
  15. Incredibly, Union and Graham have both closed the gap on Radford. Radford has a 6 point win prediction over Graham the past 2-3 weeks and Graham was the closest in the state of Virginia to Radford. That pick is now down to 3. Radford 31, Graham 28, and Radford with a 58% chance. Radford is favored over Union 31-20 with an 75% chance. That was 14 points 2 weeks ago, but now down to 11. Riverheads has now pulled ahead of Graham. It favors Riverheads by 2 points over Graham, and against Radford, same outcome as Graham. A 31-28 prediction for Radford over Riverheads.
  16. Calpreps. This game was a predicted 4 point to 5 point win for Graham over the past 3-4 weeks. Calpreps Today- Graham 21, Union 20, Graham with a 53% chance to win. This means......the computers think its a toss up like most other people. 4 points is a toss up in my opinion, but a 1 point differential is basically the computer saying.....flip a coin, it's anyone's game and the game can't end in a tie and we have to pick somebody.
  17. Calpreps Today.. Honaker 31, Galax 28, 58% chance for Honaker win Honaker 34, GW 31, 58% chance for Honaker win Honaker 35, Rye Cove 21, 81% chance for Honaker win Galax 24, GW 21, 58% chance for Galax win The Galax and GW winner is certainly in the conversation.
  18. Got to give Crist Credit. That counts. Knowing when to step back and let a subordinate do their thing is a part of leadership and leadership is a part of coaching. Got to give credit where credit is due. That's a smart move by Crist. As for the QB, the danger with him is that if you let him stay in the pocket, he will shred you. If you force him out of the pocket, he can house it from his own 20 very quickly for 80 yards. An absolute major catastrophe for defenses/opponents. Only way to beat them is just completely blowing up the play, for example, an opponents DL will need to win 3 out of the 5 or 4 out of the 5 position battles each play along the OL and DL where the play is just completely disrupted and on the other side of the ball, better be able to kill some clock with the run.
  19. I don't know who wins, but I like Union's chances. I will give some Graham offense critique and I know.....critique of offensive coaching that has played for 3 state titles in the last 5 years, lol which is already not a good take for anyone doing that, but with great compliments goes reasonable critique. Graham needs more middle of the field stuff, short, intermediate routes. Yes, Graham does the quick release throws to the WR and that is good, but I still...........after all these years going back to 2016, just see very, very, very little "sit down routes, curls." I literally just don't understand why not. Why not send a WR or RB 5 yards behind the linebackers and simply "stay," Just a simple sit down route, or a curl, etc, instead of 2 or 3 kids running post and flag routes. My opinion of this game is this. If Graham does very little or no "skinnies" or basically, 7 yard routes in the middle of the field where the WR simply plants and waits for the ball or a simple curl/comeback route 7 yds off the ball in the middle of the field, they will lose. You will see Union played center field on defense and Graham gets away with this in the passing game 90 plus percent of the time because they out athlete the opponent, but against Union this year, you aren't going to beat them deep like that. It's not going to happen. If you see Graham come out in the first quarter and they have the usual 3 guys on one play running flag routes, they are in trouble. If you see Graham look a little bit different in the passing game as described above, it will given Union major problems and Graham will win the game. Graham had glimpses of the short intermediate stuff against Central in the state title game and it's not foreign to them by any means, but they just don't seem to do it much. Much of that is probably due to risk. When you start doing passing stuff in the middle of the field at intermediate and short range, you better be darn accurate because it can be a turnover/disaster waiting to happen, but Graham is playing an opponent that requires you take chances. You are going to have to accept that risk in order to beat Union. Same for Union. When you play most teams, the Bears are so good they don't have to take much risk because they are good enough to overcome the opponent. Against Graham, they have to accept that risk and take some chances.
  20. I hear ya man. Thanks for the work you all do down there. I enjoy the reads. On Calpreps with High School Games, I disagree perhaps 5, maybe 10% of the time. That's it. That's kind of how I feel about Calpreps. Extremely accurate in my book.
  21. Biggest surprise with me for Radford this year isn't Clark or their WRs. It was well known they would be good. The offensive line is what has really surprised me. They simply were not supposed to be as good as they have played and that came from Radford fans. The same is true with the defensive line. It was well known about their secondary and great athleticism, but their DL hasn't been getting pushed off the ball like years past.
  22. Should be an interesting game at Radford...or Pulaski...or Blacksburg...or Christiansburg or wherever they play it. Radford got over the hump against Appo and finally got that win against Appo/Glenvar which they haven't done much in the playoffs other than 2018. I think they complete the sweep and run Glenvar off the field.. Radford QB has an offer from Elon and is committed to Elon. Is this as high level as he can play, or could he play for a Marshall, ODU, JMU, etc? I think the answer to that question is yes, but just my opinion on it. Landon Clark on defense. It's unlucky a little for him that he has two Div 1 kids in Class 2 in Lopez at Woodstock (DE) and Triple C at Riverheads (likely middle linebacker) because Clark would have had a reasonable chance to do what Cam Allen did and win both offensive and defensive player of the year in Class 2. He's that good at his safety position on defense.
  23. Galax a little down by their standards, but low and behold, they are right in the C finals. GW has really dialed up their game. Just a trendy incline over the past 6 or so weeks and this team might be the most improved since weeks 1 and 2 than any other team in Class 1 in the west. Can the Maroon Tide pull it off, or does Wytheville repeat as Region C Champs?
