Assoclonymn reacted to Slap the Mat in Region 2A West Wrestling 2013-2014
:) Region 2A West has approved a regular season and post season format.

In February a committee of wrestling coaches was formed to create a new format for next season. The committee had a coach from each of the conferences. Tim Woodward-Graham, Luke Owens-Central, David Street-Appomattox, Tim Jennings-James River.

The plan has been approved and here is brief overview:

The coaches main point of emphasis was an all-in Regional Tournament (19 wrestlers qualifying).

The region has been divided into East & West Sub-Sections. Each Sub-Section has been divided into two Divisions (D#1 & D#2)

East Sub Section-D#1-James River, Appomattox, Chatham,
    Martinsville, Randolph Henry
D#2-Graham, Glenvar, Marion, Floyd Co., Grayson Co.

    West Sub-Section-D#1-Tazewell, Richlands,Grundy, Central
D#2-John Battle, VA High, Lee, Union, Lebanon

Each Division will have a Super Quad during the regular season to determine seeding in that Division.

A Sub-Section Tournament will take the place of the District Tournament.
    D#1 vs. D#2 wrestlers in each Sub-Section. This tournament will determine: East-E#1 to E#10 & W#1 to W#9.

Sub-Section Tournaments will determine seeding for the Regional Tournament

The Regional Tournament will use a 16 Man Bracket with Pig-tail wrestle-in matches for weight classes with more than 16 wrestlers. The same brackets will be used for all weight classes. Format: E#1 & W#2 in one half of the bracket and W#1 & E#2 in the other half. This eliminates #1's meeting in the semi-finals.

Both schools enter this pivotal Mountain Empire District showdown in this week's second game at Mitchell Stadium. Hopefully, the Bluefield Beavers will have taken care of business the night before and have the home stands warmed up nicely for the "Virginia side boys." Galax enters the contest after tough losses to powerhouses Giles and Fort Chiswell. The G-Men take back to the home turf after finally getting a huge monkey ... aka Grayson County ... off their back. Graham's comeback from a sixteen point deficit to knockout the Blue Devils has positioned the G-Men into a more assured and more comfortable position in this week's power point standings. Hopefully, the G-Men can play another inspired game and continue their march through the always tough MED. The Maroon Tide will come to Bluefield more than hungry and with much to prove. The Saturday afternoon matchup causes me reason for concern; however, if Graham plays to its potential then the Maroon Tide will exit the "big house" all washed up. I am going with the G-Men in this one, and although I hate to look ahead, and anticipate two straight wins for the G-Men before the opportunity comes for a chance to send shockwaves throughout the state of Virginia with an upset of highly regarded Fort Chiswell! One game at a time for now and for the G-Men. One thing is for sure ... both Galax and Graham have played very tough schedules and peaking at the right time for either one will be huge. Here is to hoping that the G-Men come focused and with Grayson County finally where the boys from Independence should be ... in the past.

    In a close one ...

    Graham 35
    Galax 30

On anothe note .. congrats to the Graham golf team ... Virginia 2A State Champs!

For some reason, CNN's just not going after this one with the same gusto that they did when George Zimmerman (Latino) killed Trayvon Martin (black). Despite it being overwhelmingly the hardest trending topic on CNN's website, CNN places as its main article the 6th-hardest trending article, a piece about a female being groped while on an exchange trip to India. Though CNN is devoting some air time to the article, it's by no means the center of attention, nor is CNN sending Don Lemon in to cover the situation. It's just "another story" in Mediaville.

Of course, CNN has to at least do something. From that halfhearted desire to do its job comes the article above. Again, this article isn't the lead. Note how, in the entire article, CNN never mentions either the race of the accused teenagers or the race of the victim. You have to look at the pictures to determine that. Juxtapose that with the image of the three accused teenagers on the website as the story's introduction, and it's even more bizarre that this simple fact isn't mentioned. With the Zimmerman/Martin situation, what was the first thing CNN keyed on? Interesting, eh?

But that's not what upsets me most; what upsets me most is how biased and deceptive the article is. The article practically feloniously bashes the reader in the face with the theme that "THERE WAS NO MOTIVE WHATSOEVER".

    (1) Paragraph 1: "apparently bored and looking for somebody to kill..."
    (2) Paragraph 2: "indiscriminate shooting..."
    (3) Paragraph 4: "you are 15 times more likely to be shot dead in the USA..." (straw-man + desensitization)
    (4) Paragraph 6: "It could have been anybody -- it was such a random act."
    (5) Paragraph 7: "indiscriminate nature" (the second time that particular word appears)

That doesn't say: "thou protesteth too much". That screams it out of a bullhorn into a microphone that leads into an amp with 50,000 watts of power behind it. Again, CNN wants to make it exceptionally clear that "RACE IS NOT A FACTOR". Which is hilarious to me, because again, they not one time mention race. Race may well not be a factor in the killings. But then again, it wasn't what led to Trayvon Martin's slaying, either.

TL;DR: American media having liberalism bias and being hypocrites.

Someone had a post started on here, but looks like it is lost, so here's another. I think this is gonna be a great game with two undefeated teams. Going to go with my heart and pick the Tigers. Defense slows down the Battle explosive offense 31-28
