  1. Northwood's best player wasn't playing either. So that really didn't help matters for tbem.
  2. In 03 or 04 season TS played CW twice, once during season and once in post season. One of those years a fight erupted on the field. It's been pretty wild since then. I think something else that factors into it is the basketball rivalry between the two. Since castlewood has joined Cumberland, more times than not these two have been the best in district year in and year out (has changed some recently). I think that is what really fuels this fire along with the proximity. From nickelsville or dungannon I believe it's a shorter trip to Castlewood than to Rye Cove.
  3. TS and Castlewood game went to wire last year and had a 20-30 yard TD pass thrown with six seconds left to give TS victory. Ts was down 10 with five to go. These schools hate each other. Fought each other last basketball season. Could get nasty again.
  4. Everybody I've talked to that has seen Castlewood in person has been very unimpressed. Unless they've improved dramatically, that doesn't sound good for Honaker that they were defeated by them. Another thing to consider when playing castlewood is that they're just so rowdy. If they're close to your skill level it can throw you off of your game. Constant smack talking, cheap shots, and fighting. So maybe Honaker is better and fell victim to that. Not sure what to think.
  5. Will this scrimmage be this upcoming Saturday?
  6. I don't see McClung going anywhere. His sister stayed at GC and still got a scholarship to Florida State. He already has offers at GC, gets good exposure at camp. All that being said, biggest reason I don't see him leaving is that his dad is an elected official in Scott County and for that reason, I think he'll keep Mac at GC.
  7. Dobynns-Bennet. Saw on Twitter he won an iron man contest. Lifted 1400 pounds or something of that nature.
  8. I think a potential playoff matchup of Hurley vs Patrick Henry would be awesome to watch with those two rbs. I think Hurley returns quite a bit. Always hearing they're getting transfers but even if they don't they'll be hard to handle.
  9. Not salty, just don't see how that is safe. The carpet over that concrete doesn't offer much in the way of protection. Never a fan of close fences like that either, although there are other schools with a similar setup in terms of closeness. Only place I can compare atmosphere the fans give opposing teams is maybe GC, but everything is more confined at Hurley. It did seem like a hostile environment though, and like I said it even seemed to have an impact on the officials. It's not a trip many will want to make due to travel and that environment. It's a rough one.
  10. Worst and most hostile environment I've ever been around at Hurley. I think even the refs were intimidated. It shows, everybody is dropping them. Not to mention the indoor/outdoor carpet laid over concrete on sideline next to bleachers. Also where the fence is about five feet (if that) from sideline. And the fans stand there and scream, cuss and try to fight right on that fence line. Just not sure who'd want any part of that and frankly, since safety is such a big issue I'm not sure how VHSL condones the behavior and playing field conditions at Hurley in their current state.
  11. I think the key for Eastside is to get their athletes out. Seems like their best athletes always play basketball/baseball but not football. From a numbers perspective the Cumberland should be theirs easily I think. Norton - they'll be Norton. They know their system. They just graduated a LOT, plus Savon Wadsworth transferred. TS - Who knows. Lost some talent. Switching offenses. No football tradition to build upon. Could see a very good season or an abysmal one. RC - not happening this year. Not even close. CW - All hinges on the Woods kid. Not sure if he is even playing, but talk is cheap. TW - No idea. Seemed to come on at end of last season. Did Coomer leave voluntarily? If so, don't see that happening if they had something to build upon.
  12. I had heard rumblings that the TV quarterback and running back would be transferring to Hurley. Was told the qb is already there. But I'm a long way from Buchananon County, easy for things to get mixed up in translation.
  13. I have no clue what JIB JV program had, but they lost all their skill players basically and also their best lineman in a transfer to DB. I know they're coached well and really only Cumberland team with football tradition, but I think this could be the year another team moves closer. Would have to say Castlewood could give them a run for their money with the Woods kid at QB and plethora of lineman coming back. Who knows about Eastside or TW with new coaches. RC is still down. TS lost some key players. Could be wide open.
  14. As far as extreme SWVA football goes, Justice, Humphrey, and McClung would be the three here. I've heard Justice has a hamstring issue but I'd expect that to be good to go. McClung is just an athletic freak, not sure if he will play or not but if he does he's a weapon no matter what position he's at. Humphrey is best of the three IMO. Also, anybody heard of players who moved from a neighboring school in Buchanan to Hurley?
  15. Have a shakedown of what 1a football will look like in swva from top to bottom this year?
