John Battle's football team is a valuable member of the Mountain District but I suspect they will finish at the bottom of the standings this coming season. As I have posted previously, I think Union should be the favorite again this year - but the district will be very entertaining and very competitive. I look for Lee, Gate City, and Ridgeview to be good. I think Central may be a little weaker than last season. Battle will bring up the rear.
My preseason MD players to watch would include Collier from Gate City, Mullins from Wise, Rasnic from Lee, and Mitchell from Union.
I heard that Mitchell has now been offered scholarships from Va Tech, Virginia, JMU, and Wofford.
Clemson has shown some interest also but haven't offerred a full ride yet
I believe it was th 94 Appy team that beat Middlesex 72-7? I really don't think any team would have beaten them in the last 15 years. And they even lost to Powell Valley that season.
That appy-PV game was probably best game I've ever seen, had to be 10 deep at the fence and Im with you I don't see anyone beating either one of those teams but they've been some teams that could make it interesting, Maybe?
I may be wrong but no team I've watched in the last 15 years could beat appy PV or Gate City teams from mid 90s and I didn't see any of the Richland's teams then because appy didn't play them. With players like Turner, Clark, the Joneses and houseright, Beasley. Not downing any teams from the last 15 years because there were some good teams but from 1993-1998 PV Appy and Gate City were just loaded with so much talent it was crazy.
Man, I haven't had any issues with 26, except in Asheville when you have to navigate that quick right exit, then left exit combination across the French Broad river bridge.
Yeah I hit that spot at 3 in the morning last summer with no traffic and still bout missed the exit.
Hate to jump in on your guys argument but the bad call everyone keeps bringing up, Union scored on the play before and it was called back on a phantom holding call if u can't stop 2 hail Marys in a row u deserve to lose
Union ended season 18-1 and will play J. battle for championship. Both teams only losses were against each other, I've been told the championship will be played before the varsity championship Thursday but that isn't official. Everyone from Union should come out and see the girls play. With most of the team being 8th graders there should be a lot more wins coming the next 3 or 4 years. Good luck girls on a great season.
Bishop, Summers and Noaks graduated but Fannon had a lot of big runs last season and Zirkle will be a great addition also so we are in good shape there.
Appomattox is still very talented. They do replace some key positions though.
Richlands is loaded on offense and just need a defense to step up.
Union lost some big time athletes, but Mitchell is still there and he's a beast.
Giles is a bit unknown at this point.
So is Glenvar.
Graham is my dark horse. They will be a good team this year.
Those are my way too early top 6.
Richland's is definitely the team to beat, Union will be tougher than some people expect but will be more run oriented with Fannon getting most of the carries, and I also thank Graham is the dark horse team with Central and Gate City close behind, don't know what to expect from Ridgeview.
If this years Union @ Richlands game is anything like the last 4, it'll be another game of the year candidate in SWVA. All those two schools know how to do in sports is produce classics.[/quote
I think they should just start playing twice a year from now on, why not. But it may finish off my nerves though.

I agree with you Collier is gonna have a big year if he has some help. I think Turner at Union will surprise some people this year also but we lost a lot of targets for him.

So you are saying that Appomattox is 7 touchdowns better than Union? Clarke beat Union by 4 touchdowns and Appomattox will beat Clarke by 3 touchdowns? I think you are a little off base.
No I'm just saying union played awful today and made clarke co look great and maybe they are, I've seen every union game this year and to me we just plain and simple looked flat from the start. I've not seen appo play this year but from what everyone is saying on here their D is great and it must be to slow Richlands down as much as they did. I thought union and richlands would be in the state champ. game this year also so I was wrong there but it would shock me to see Clarke Co. win state and if you take a poll on here I would say most people would go with Appomattox.
Ryan your right, appo will beat clarke by at least 3td. Union just looked flat today first int was a screen thrown right to clarke, the guy may have ran it back but was stunned that it was thrown directly too him, 2nd was just thrown up for grabs into triple coverage, we dropped a TD right before half, tried stripping ball whole game instead of tackling. May not be giving clarke co. enough credit but we made them look a lot better than they may be.
