  1. When at BWW I like to get one order of the salt and vinegar wings to eat in between my other flavors.  Kind of like a chicken wing palette cleanser for me.  It may be all in my head but I like it like that.

East Coast Wings likes to say they have great wings, and I do like some of their options but it seems like they have always put a wing on the table thats cold on the outside and hot in the center.  Kind of a turn off for wing eating.

As much as I like buffalo wings, a good smoked wing with a touch of bbq sauce is probably my favorite when done right.

    Wings:

Quaker Steak and Lube = the drizzling you know what

    Beef O Brady's = :-(

    Buffalo Wild Wings = great

East Coast Wings = that feeling you get when you get when you're Justin Verlander and you just got home with Kate Upton clinging to your arm

I LOVED East Coast Wings!  That harvest apple sauce you kinda feel will suck because seriously apples and chicken, but yet, it's so strange you just got to try it?  Well, do yourself a favor and TRY IT!!!  It's the most amazing sauce ever.

Come to Galax and try Creek Bottom Brews!  Excellent wings, pizza, burgers and pickle fries.  Oh, and the beer of course!  Nothing you can buy at Food City.  All craft on tap.

I work for Food City and we actually are starting to get some GREAT craft brews in stock.  Founders All Day IPA and Breakfast Stout are immensely popular nationwide.  Dale's Pale Ale is also.  I love me some great high gravity brews, but usually have to go to Peabody's in Boone, North Carolina to get them.  Double and even Triple IPA's are my specialty.

  2. Will be heading over tonight to see the new gym for the first time and taking in the opening night games of the Breaks tournament.  Hoping to at least see one competitive game... I know Castlewood is probably going to stomp a mudhole in Council's hind end and walk it dry, but wonder how Hurley will match up against Ridgeview?

  3. Looks like we'll get an early gauge of how good each team is Saturday. The two are going to play Saturday at UVA-Wise in the finals of a tournament. No way either loses on Friday.

I went and watched last night. I think they are pretty even among the first six or seven but Central has much more depth. They had a girl come off the bench that was in the 9th grade that I'm not so sure won't turn out to be the best player that is in that tournament when all is said and done.

Pretty good girls players in that thing, some kid from Jenkins scored her 4,000th point, Central has talent out the wazzoo and Ridgeview has some players in Mullins - the Gully girls. Frazier and the Counts girl aren't bad either.

Curious to see what GC has, they'll have to play to beat one of these two, may be the most competitive girls basketball has been around here in a while.

Yeah, I am from Dickenson County, but live in Bristol now, and can't tell what kind of competition Union is, but the BHC has already previewed the Hogoheegee and considers GW to be a state championship contending team in 1A.

I honestly don't think either team will have an easy semifinal, but I do agree with you that both Central and Ridgeview will probably win.  Wished I could see it, but I will be in Salem tomorrow.

  4. I love people who say they hate teams that all they do is run. Especially when their spread teams are sitting in the bleachers while the power running teams are playing for a State Title.

You got me there... no comeback for that one.  Lol.

  5. I watched the video of the 2010 Riverheads v East Mont state title game and fell in love with what Riverheads does Offensively. It takes players that fully buy into the system and great coaching to make it work. Its not for everyone but I love it. Im also a big fan of what Galax does on Offense, again its takes players that fully buy in and great coaching to make it work and everyone cant do it.

Definitely pulling for Galax but im excited just to see the game.

Run run run run run run run run run run run

    Booooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!

That GW-Riverheads game was over in an hour and 40 minutes.

Hate teams that run the ball every damn play.  It's so boring.  Lol.

May be like that in the 2A game too, but I'm excited because I haven't seen either of those teams yet.

  6. I think fans everywhere criticize coaching, whether it's another team or whether it's their own.

Section of crowd I sat in at Wytheville Saturday were getting all hostile with GW's coach for not throwing the ball, or when they did throw the ball, they wanted that screen pass to be a deep ball.

People that used to wear red were calling for Rick Mullins' firing about halftime of the Wise Central game in week 2.  My Facebook timeline lit up... Lol.

Obviously things got much better as the season progressed and things quieted down... I'm from Haysi, and I can't criticize.  Even though Colley had the offensive mastermind, it's Mullins who has a ring.

I think I seen another thread on here where fans criticize their own team (Giles maybe?).  Like I said, I think it happens everywhere.  Haters gonna hate when adversity rears its ugly head, but they'll be your best bud when things are peachy keen.

If Richlands had beaten Appomattox, I'm sure Mr. 4A would have been like... "Boy, I sure wished I worked for coach Mance, cause he's so cool..."

My two cents about the original topic.  As far as golf goes, I once hit a hole in one on a putt putt course.  :D

  7. How did Tug Valley do this year?

I remember them beating us last year (Haysi) and everyone thinking how huge of an upset that was at the time after we had just taken care of business against Clintwood, but then Tug Valley went on and went to the final 4 in West Virginia 1A, so then it didn't look like it was as big of an upset as everyone thought.

  8. I can give you Ridgeview's

The thing I immediately notice looking at my printout here is that Lebanon is only on the schedule once.  I thought they were in our conference in all the other sports except for football, but apparently not???

  9. I didnt know UVA-Wise were in search of a new coach. I know several lineman at Glenvar are also considered UVA-Wise.

About four years too late, but yes, Lusk finally resigned after another embarrassing season.  They can't possibly be any worse than they were under his tenure there.

  10. The Haysi/Essex game was moved to KWHS. Great facility but the stands are far from the field, much like Ridgeviews setup. From what I understand there is a heated rivalry between EHS and KWHS, I know the field was painted up in KW colors and had a KW on the 50 for the HHS/EHS game. Haysi did not request that the game be moved, that was the VHSL acting on the precedent set in 2013 for the FC game. Personally I think Essex should have been allowed to host at their field, they earned that right. That being said Haysi had around 1,500 fans at that game and the Essex visitor section wouldn't have held half that. As much as I feel they should have been able to host if I would have had to stood by the fence I would have been pretty upset.

If they are gonna have this type of success then they need to upgrade their facilities but its my understanding that $ is tight and they don't have fan/community support like we do here in SWVA.

Not having enough bathroom facilities and not having bathroom facilities are very different things. Idk that they have bathrooms at their home site, just port-a-johns  Most of the games over that way are played before crowds of 300-400, not 2000+. Essex had 80 fans(many showed up after halftime, Haysi had 1,000 90 minutes before the game started). They simply aren't used to that type of turnout. Hard to justify upgrades for 1 game a year that isint guaranteed. Easier and more cost efficient to just play at a neighboring school.

If Galax doesn't bring any more fans than they did to Norton Saturday then Essexs home field will probably be sufficient.

A very nice girl from Essex who is a mother of one of their players started friending a lot of Haysi folks, including myself, on Facebook after the Haysi/Essex game last season.  I usually message back and forth with her after every game during the season, finding out how they did, giving her updates on who to watch out for from the West, etc.

She stated that Essex had a new AD this season and didn't want to play the Galax game at King William because of that rivalry.  The fans wanted the game at King William because KW is only 20 miles away.  King George is closer to 40 miles away.  She also stated that their away and home stands combined couldn't have held the Big Red Army last year, but like I said in one of the other threads, if they had played the game at Essex, that would have been ok.  It was their right.  I would have stood on the sideline and still had a blast.

The amount of their fans that showed up to that game vs Haysi last year was so sad to see. They only had 20 miles to travel, whereas we had 5+ hours and we outnumbered them almost 10 to 1 in fan support.

They are undefeated but have actually had a very tumultuous season.  One of their players was lost for the season and was lucky to be alive after being ran down by a car in the parking lot after a game by an enraged fan from the other team.
