Hokiebird, to add to what Dick_Vitale said, Union girls lost to us in the district tournament championship and regional championship last year, and 5 times in all before the state championship game last year, but still played us for the state championship. If Union wasn't allowed that opportunity to advance, then it would've been much an easier road to the title last year for us, because the only other team outside of the 4 great Mountain teams last year that was worthy of a mention was Floyd County.

Milo, you are correct that if you win first round of 2A West, you're guaranteed at least 3 more games. Region semifinal, region final/consoloation, state quarterfinal. Hokiebird7, If you hate this format, you would love 2A East, where they take 4 teams per conference for a 16 team region tournament. Lol

They could have played in the finals of the Wise tournament, but Richlands lost to George Wythe before that could happen.

Lee beat Battle in girls, so the bracket will look like this: First Round -- Tuesday at higher seed 1 Wise Central (bye) 4 Lebanon vs. 5 Union 3 Ridgeview vs. 6 Lee High 2 Gate City vs. 7 John Battle Semis at Central Thursday Finals at Central Friday

Then Central and Battle would be tied for the 3 seed on 6 points and split head to head, not sure how tiebreakers other than first place are settled.

I totally forgot that Battle could tie Lee by beating them tonight, Not sure how a tie for 6th gets broken though, coin flip maybe? Lol. I believe they hate us worse. Frazier coached in their system before he became Ridgeview's girls coach.

Another thing I will say about our fans... and though I don't go to very many basketball games, I've noticed it at all the games I've been to this year... our fans pretty much leave after the girls game and don't even stick around for the boys. I live in Bristol now and Bristol to Gate City is a nothing drive for myself, but if I still lived in Dickenson County (especially on the Haysi end of the county) and made that long haul to GC, I think I would get my money's worth and stay for both games. Pretty sad when you think about it. If Gate City and Ridgeview girls win their first round games next week, then the semis at Central should get very interesting. Even though Ridgeview will probably have more fans there than GC, I suspect Central will be pulling hard for GC to beat us.

He is simply known as "Super Dave". He is somewhat mentally challenged, (I think he had an accident when he was younger to cause this) so you'll have to excuse him. Funny fact about him though, he was video guy for Haysi for MANY years back when I was in school, then I kid you not was recruited away by Richlands. He worked for Richlands for two years and came back to Haysi. He's been back in Dickenson County ever since. I actually spoke to the cop who spoke to Frazier's wife, and apologized on our behalf for the behavior and he said not to worry about it, that normally he likes that stuff but then said if it was a Union fan she would've been out of there! I wished I would've seen the near altercation between Frazier and Houseright though. Between her and McAmis, there should be a reality TV series filmed, called the Real Housewives of the Mountain District. I think it would be a huge success in the TV ratings. :)

Just John Battle at Gate City so far. Not 100% decided yet but most likely Lee at Ridgeview and Union at Lebanon.

Ridgeview at Union next Monday... Not sure of the Time, but hope it's at 7, so I can get there from work on time. 3-6 seeds are all still up in the air.

That would be Frazier's wife, head coach of the girls. Lmao. I didn't hear that part and she was sitting directly behind me... But I did hear her call the refs f'n a-holes and did get a talking to from one of Scott Countys finest. Ridgeview actually led for the majority of the first quarter coming out on fire before cooling off. First quarter was fun anyway.

Good. I guess I will finally get to see the Union and Central gyms for the first time then.

So, a buddy of mine just texted me and said that he had heard that the bottom two teams do not get to play in the conference tournament. Has anyone else heard this? If this is true, then that's a shame. In boys, it doesn't mean much, cause there's no way Ridgeview is beating Union. But in girls, John Battle has played everyone tough though they haven't won a game. I'm sure I'll be in the minority, but I don't like it if it's true.

I didn't see Steve Honaker last night at King, so I assume he was one of them. If so, then that's your answer.
