"The Moores weren't considered national-caliber recruits. Virginia got Herman Moore because Virginia Tech wouldn't commit a scholarship to him until he scored high enough on his Scholastic Aptitude Tests. When the Cavaliers said they would offer him a scholarship no matter the outcome, Herman became a Virginia convert. Shortly thereafter, he scored well enough on the SATs. Sorry Hokies.
"Virginia was willing to take a chance," Moore said.
VT was on NCAA probation when Herman Moore committed to UVA, so I'm not entirely convinced it was a matter of grades that dissuaded him from VT. :)
To be honest I had forgotten all the details surrounding Moore's recruitment. And you are right I'm sure Virginia Tech being on probation with limited scholarships played a role in them not offering Moore. And that he is probably the real reason they didn't offer him before his SAT score.
This is a not entirely true. And I'm not knocking Virginia, but I remember Herman Moore didn't qualify at Virginia Tech but he did qualify at Virginia. Schools have different core class requirements. And certain conferences have different rules for non-qualifiers. NCAA just sets up the guidelines
Interesting that Tech is late to the party on him. But some people I've talked to in Bluefield said grades might be an issue. But Virginia did offer so who knows
I have only seen this done once and it happened at a Richlands game. Their opponent also conceded the opening tip. Both benches were given a delay of game warning and the tip was retried. This time Richlands opponent (sorry I don't recall the team) won the jump.
I haven't heard this one, however I hear from a pretty reliable source that a pretty well known Bluefield kid has decided after basketball season he will bring his talent to Richlands a long with a friend of his.
Bluefield royalty isn't coming to Richlands. You guys need to shop elsewhere for a running back
My question is could Richlands actually compete without the best players from other schools? We'll say transferrs so won't make Richlands citizens mad. I would like to see what kind of talent that the boys that's raised and bred in Richlands have not kids from other schools.
Richlands had a real good middle school team this year. They only lost one game this season. Good quarterback, some good looking 7th graders, and probably the best running back in the 8th grade for this area.
