  1. If they like t-shirts, I know another school where they can get one almost weekly as a perk. I think businesses donate them but still, free t-shirts weekly is a plus!
  2. Truthfully, if there’s not a recording of something can it actually be proven???? Anyone can say , so & so called my kid. I know lots of kids that talk back & forth with players from other schools & are good friends off the field. Many times, kids are a team’s best “recruiters” for successful programs.
  3. Gear 😂😂😂 you mean a tshirt & sweats??? How scandalous ! 😂😂😂 High School prepares some kids for the workforce & not all kids go to college . Being part of a great sports program can produce adults with a great work ethic who will be productive members of society.
  4. I agree , coaches should not actively recruit or approach kids. Richlands actively recruited for years under Mance and kids wanted to play there because they were successful during that run. Right now, Graham is having a good run so kids want to be a part of that. If a player or parent reaches out to a coach, I don’t fault the coach for that.
  5. So parents are angry their kids are part of a State Championship team? Okayyyy! With the exception of Floyd, didn’t most kids come in middle school or as Freshmen? You have Sawyers who came from LB but that was because of his parent’s job, right? You have the Bland boys who came this year when their program folded. Here’s the thing, kids want to be part of a winning program. Graham has had several players go on since Palmer took the helm to play at the next level. He’s good at getting kids’ noticed. Kids come to play at successful programs whether it’s Graham, Richlands, Bluefield, Union, etc. Part of being a good head coach is assembling a quality coaching staff that can work well together, Tony Palmer has done that. I give him credit for bringing Snake on staff. He & Rex do a great job on defense.
  6. Weakening a schedule to just win In the regular season always helps a team especially come playoff time 😂😂😂.
  7. I realize Bluefield is a long haul but why would you replace a team of Bluefield’s caliber with VA High? No offense intended toward the Bearcats. Bluefield & VA High are no where near the same level.
  8. I wondered if some of the schools down that way might lose some players to Tennessee next season.
  9. Agree , especially Dolin , very deserving of an 1st Team spot on All Region & All State and Sawyers very underrated! He was a headhunter on special teams this year. I think he was the most improved last season and continued playing very well this year. I really think in a year or two, the Lilly boy will be equally an asset on special teams. He had some really good tackles.
  10. Maybe @Bluefield researcher can answer that.
  11. I think Richlands needs consistency rather than more changes but that's an outsiders' perspective. I also think the same is true of Fort Chiswell. They need to find someone who will stay & build the program.
  12. I'd like to see a Region C vs Region D game just for fun with only Seniors from teams. I know that's probably an unrealistic thing but I think it would be neat for Seniors to get a plus one game like this.
  13. I had a parent of one of the linemen tell me, Snake told them they were the best line he’d ever coached. When you consider all his years of coaching at Richlands & now Graham, that’s a pretty hefty compliment and accomplishment on the part of those boys. Every single one deserved recognition in my book.
  14. I felt like after the list was released I needed some clarification on the process so I asked around. Others may know this but I dare say some don’t. If a player doesn’t make 1st Team All District, he cannot make 1st Team All Region which is decided before the region is even concluded. A player cannot make All State if he wasn’t 1st Team All Region even if he had a spectacular game at the state level. Take Brayden Meadows for example, 100% pass completion, his best game of the season at QB was the State Championship game but he can’t receive any accolades for that because he wasn’t 1st Team QB for SWD District to begin with. It all starts at district level. You have Cody Dolin who probably had his best games against Appo & near best against CW but won’t be All State because he wasn’t 1st Team All Region and as I stated All State was already decided is my understanding before the game was even played. I could go on & on about the fairness or the process. My point being, you can’t put much stock in these things because it never shakes out fairly and the rules for how the selection work’s penalizes kids who play lights out in the playoffs in may opinion. If I had my way Graham’s ENTIRE defense would be 1st Team especially the D. Line, for district, region, and especially state but that would never happen, other coaches would not vote for that. I guarantee a lot of kids that made 1st Team All Region but didn’t make it to the State Championship would trade that meaningless award for a ring. Just my two cents because I know there are a lot of unhappy people and hurt feelings. As a coach (which I’m not), I’d defer to Senior with all things being equal but unfortunately, lay people like me have no vote. Congratulations to the GMen on the championship because that’s the most important award in my opinion.
  15. From Aiden’s FB page posted today. We just got my results back everything is good no bad anything Me and mom cried tears of joy Praise The Lord!
  16. I agree, it just proves the best at a position don’t always get the accolades. Cody definitely deserved 1st team. A Senior who lead by example & played lights out almost every game, with all things equal defer to the Senior. Nothing against Rotenberry or Hill for O Line & D Line but Dolin. deserved 1st team. Graham’s D Line , every kid on that line deserved it. Best D line across, the district, region, & state in 2A. Best from Graham in a really long time. I didn’t get a vote obviously, lol.
  17. I would have picked Poku over Worley but I didn’t get to vote 😂.
  18. 🚨Congratulations to the following All Southwest District Football 🏈 Team members🚨 Offensive Player of the Year - Ty’Drez Clements Defensive Player of the Year - Connor Roberts Coach of the Year - Tony Palmer 1st team offense : Ethan Alvis - Center Ty’Drez Clements- Running Back Connor Roberts - O Line Kaden Rotenberry - O Line Chris Edwards - Wide Receiver 1st Team defense : Connor Roberts - D line Cody Dolin - D line Omarri Hill - D line Sean Hughes - D end Gage Sawyers - Linebacker Brayden Watkins - D back 2nd Team offense : Cody Dolin - O line Carter Lloyd - O line Jamel Floyd - Running back Brayden Watkins - Wide receiver 2nd Team Defense : Aidan Wallace - D line Braden Meadows - Linebacker Yubrenal Isabelle - Linebacker Myles Raley - Linebacker Jamel Floyd - D back Tristan Hass - D back Go G-Men ! I would imagine to see several of these on All Region as well.
  19. I agree Union was the best defense & Ridgeview the best passing offense Graham faced. I would add Bluefield, the most balanced team. I think overall Region D was probably stronger more physical football than most of Region B with the exception of CW preparing Graham for them. CW wasn’t used to that much push back & it caught up with them.
  20. You know what else you called? What Snake would do on defense! You said he’d start out stacking the box with 7 to stop the run only he two upped you with nine. 😂 Now #40 was going to get some yards, he’s a beast but for the most part, Graham’s defense kept them in check. I don’t think CW was used to an opponent going toe to toe with them all 4 quarters full steam and it really showed that last quarter. It’s hard to win with turnovers and grinding out 6 minutes in the 3rd without producing even a field goal. Graham game planned better for CW than CW game planned for Graham.
  21. Yes, he did! I read a post where some commented our QB couldn’t throw the ball. He proved them wrong. Outstanding job today!
  22. They definitely got worn down and when they took 6 minutes off the clock in the 3rd with no points to show for it, I felt they were in trouble. I was hoping to see their kicker boot one of those near 50 yards field goals. I was very pleased with our kicks, punts, & special teams today. Some games during the season , they had some miscues but today, no complaints from me. I think you hit the nail on the head, CW wasn’t used to having anyone that could go toe to toe and Graham was probably the most physical team they’ve played. The GMen were not going to back down. Credit to CW, they fought a good fight, Graham was just better.
  23. @BandanaVTDavis4321 called it , sort of when he predicted Snake would probably put 7 in the box to start to stop the run, I believe I counted 9 most of the time, lol. Bold move but it worked! 40 got done good bursts which you can’t stop the power run 100% of the time but man, Graham’s defense was impressive! I forget who said they were overrated but that comment didn’t age well. Someone else said CW had the better QB, not today they didn’t! One more observation, CW looked a lot bigger on film than in person I thought. Congratulations to the Falcons though, it was a great ride & lots of teams would have loved to have been in your shoes today! #40 was definitely as advertised! Helluva player!
  24. Two face masks missed thus far by officials against CW.Of course, they’ve probably missed some calls on Graham too.
