Agree! If I'm not mistaken Richlands dropped Bluefield when Lowe took over as head coach and play a lot of single A teams for out of conference games. They'll definitely need to play up to get the experience they need to get past the M7 for sure. M7 is head and shoulders above the SWD as far as girls' basketball.

If they all sit out it’s a 100% accurate statement, lol. Seriously, I hope Coach Lowe encourages them to take the high road and to play, play hard, & show why people like you think they can be contenders in girls’ basketball.

Stopped by this morning while I was in town to watch a bit of Graham's practice. Some of those boys must have hit the weight room hard & heavy after the season last year. I'm not an expert by any means just an armchair fan but I believe their line play is going to be very strong. I think QB is the biggest question mark but I see Meadows coming into his own after getting some games under his belt. He's got lots of players to compliment him. I'll be interested to see how they do in those early games this season, arguably their toughest opponents in regular season will be in those early weeks in my opinion. The past few years, Graham's defense especially seems to really kick it into high gear the further the season progresses. If the defense has a good showing in those first few games, they are going to be super tough this year. IMHO!

If what I heard is half true, then the board had every right to not reinstate him. I don't think the board can make public everything can they since it was a personnel decision albeit a coaching position??? Someone with more knowledge of policy & legality might be able to speak to that. As I stated previously, if he truly cares about the girls then he will encourage them to keep playing for the new coach and support them as a spectator. It's my understanding that he's wanting the girls to sit out and let him form a travel ball team and play that way. coaches have lost positions or resigned (in various sports at Richlands & elsewhere in the county) yet still supported the players instead of making the transition worse. Great coaches never make it about THEMSELVES and don't want the glory. They always default to giving the players the recognition. Not my monkey not my circus but it sure has those parents and players riled up and ready to string up the board and Tom Rife figuratively speaking. I hope the girls play & have a successful season.

I thought Rife coached at Tazewell for one season until they could find a coach for the boys maybe 3 or 4 years ago. For all practical purposes, he’s retired though.

Isn’t he one of the After the Whistle guys? I hope they still do that broadcast. I really enjoy it!

I hope they stay together regardless of coaching change. I feel like Lowe should encourage them to stay together and play hard for the new coach. If he cares about them as much as everyone says, that’s the approach he should take & not encourage them to balk at coaching change but that’s also an outsider’s perspective. I guess we’ll just have to sit back and see what happens.

Seriously , the most successful basketball team to come out of Richlands was back in the Allen girl era & coached by Dennis “Snake” Palmer. I think they made it to state twice I think. I believe that was before everyone in the district practically made the playoffs. We’ve really “dumbed down” the playoff system but I digress.

I don't have a dog in this fight & could care less who the coaches are at Richlands but seems like there's more to this situation if the board didn't fold under that much pressure from players & parents. Must be something the general public is not privy to IMHO.

Let us know how it shakes out. According to WVVA, several players spoke on his behalf but didn't say whether or not he's been reinstated. Edited: Saw a post on FB by parent that Coach Lowe wasn't reinstated.

Going to be a pretty lively meeting between this policy being voted on and the Richlands folks coming in mass to get Coach Lowe reinstated as girls basketball coach. Between those two things FB has been up in arms. Hopefully, level heads prevail tonight.

I’d say all those ladies complaining about clear purses will be having to carry said clear purses after this past weekend at the Blue/White Festival.

No clue why, I just saw Facebook blow up with petition, go to school board meeting, etc. Probably political like most school board stuff is. I’d like to be a fly on the wall at that meeting tonight. I bet he gets reinstated unless there’s something major that’s happened that the general public is unaware of.

Thanks for clarification, I was hearing it second or third hand. But jeez Louise, what the heck is wrong with people. I doubt that would have happened if it was just a normal blue/white game but maybe it would have. People are crazy these days.

Apparently, some guy was drunk causing a scene and they were taking him out and found out he had a gun on him. They ended up canceling the fireworks. I'm not sure if the rest of it was cut short or not. If this information is inaccurate, someone from Richlands, please correct.

I guess after incident yesterday at this, the school board will pass that list of ridiculousness. There's always one that spoils the fun for everyone else. Dang shame.

I heard he was enrolling today & had to get VHSL physical. Now, if he’ll post that completed form to this thread, we can settle the height/weight debate 😂.

I heard 9th, 10th, 11th, maybe 12th.

IMHO, LCA shouldn’t be allowed to compete unless the VHSL makes them follow the same rules as public schools. Actually, they should have to compete with other private schools, period! I take back my first statement.
