Historically the VHSL has asked for play clocks to be off beginning in the state semis.

I talked to a guy today that used to ref. He told me he thought they could only use play clocks in the finals if both teams had play clocks at their home fields. If one or neither had them, they wouldn't be used in the title game.

They made zero! So, yes the goodness of their heart, apparently. Word on the street Appo is getting to practice free of charge, courtesy of the town of Bluefield, WV. Graham coaches were unaware until last night.

So. Didn't Graham practice Friday? Appo probably did not before getting there due to travel. Isn't it fair that both teams got to practice Friday?

Radford had Glenvar beat then fell totally apart late. Can't believe last pass wasn't picked off.

Radford throws 5 picks, lost a fumble, and Glenvar recovered an onside kick. Radford should of been able to put them away

Would like to see it but not going that far for 2 teams I really don't care about...if I was going to go that far I'd go see Liberty christian and EC Glass

Going to check out PM/EMont. Giles might draw EMont next week and PM the week after. Something to do on a Friday night

I got it down to one game.  Covington vs Craig County.  I could be wrong,

Right now, it's East Montg and Narz tied for 5th, 7th is Covington, 8th is Grayson.  East Mont. plays P. McCluer and will lose, and they will still pull ahead of Narz even with the loss as PM will have 7 wins on the season.   Narrows wins over Bath, but Bath has zero wins.  That gives East Montgomery a 3 total point advantage over Narz because EM gets 7 points for PM's wins and Narrows get 4 points for the bath win, so 3 point advantage to EM,  So, that right there puts East Montgomery at 5th and Narrows at 6th.

Covington, now at 7th,  if they beat Craig County, I have them finishing a fraction of a point ahead of Narrows which would put Narz at 7.  Very good chance we play Narrows if the games go with who is favored.  The one to watch is.........Covington vs Craig County.  If Covington wins that game, again, I'm no expert, but I don't see anyway how Narrows is Not the 7 seed, and this is even with East Montgomery losing.

    We'll see.

I don't see how Grayson is below Narz, E.Mont, and Covington. Grayson is 5-4 with wins over 3A Carroll and 2A Marion. Narz, E.Mont, and Covington have only wins against very bad 1A teams.

GW is coming on, maybe the third best lol lol

Looks like GW and Grayson may finish 4th and 5th seed. Rematch in first round, with the winner being rewarded with a round 2 trip to Galax

Tell that to all the kids who played back in the day when there was no playoffs. Their reward was having fun and learning about themselves too.

Yeah, but I think even in those times, you had teams "declared"  champions of districts, regions, and even state.

Because high school football is NOT about the playoffs. It is about teaching young men lessons thru competition. The only lesson they learn here is about how grown ups manipulate the system.

I see what you're saying. But absolutely no up side for Giles to take that game. Really no upside for Graham either.

Giles needs to keep Graham on speed dial and vice-versa.  I'm hearing by a couple of Blacksburg fans that B-Burg might not be a guarantee with the G-men.  Why?  3 more players quit yesterday for Blacksburg.  Don't be surprised if over the next day, B-Burg cancels on Graham.  If that happens and Graham played Giles, it would serve both Giles and Graham well compared to what was the alternative.  I live in Newport, so fairly close to B-Burg and we have a few B-Burg natives that follow their program living here on this side of the county line.  They tell me B-Burg's football program is a mess.  I told them that I didn't need them (my neighbors) to tell me that for me to figure that out, but evidently, it's more than just talent down and less players out.  There are less players out because they are very unhappy with the coaching situation.

Giles is sitting in the #2 seed. Why risk that to get blown out and beat up by Graham? Take the forfeit from Auburn. Get healthy as can be for this time of year. That "2 seed gets you two home playoff games, as long as you take care of business.

Doubt it...but I hope they play

Auburn is still practicing, saw them today. Must be planning on playing Giles next week if he's got enough healthy kids. I'm sure Williams will pull starters early. He's good about stuff like that

Arm? Hahaha we don't throw it anyway

Yeah, well there's a few rocks there on the hill around our scoreboard that says we did, can, and need to. Ricky Cook and Raphael Milton says we do. So it is a definite plus to have a tailback that can throw.

I agree that Khalik will get a lot more touches next year. We just haven’t been very effective on our fullback runs this season but hopefully that will change with returning most of the o-line. What these kids choose to do in the off-season is very critical. Hopefully they choose the weight room.

I like #23 at tailback next year. Watching warm ups, kid by far has the best arm. Needs to get a little tougher running the ball, but he's just a sophomore too

I’m sure ours will be as well

Not too sure. When they cancelled their game with Floyd, they went by their matchups. Floyd apparently had a lot of big seniors and juniors. Auburn has many 9th an 10th graders that the coach thought couldn't matchup physically. Giles is fairly small and young also. Probably got 6 or so sophomores starting on O & D. He may feel he can get through that game without a lot of injuries.

Anyone know if Auburn is planning on playing Galax this week?

If I were Galax, I'd take the forfeit. Likely no small school would play them, and they could risk their #1 seed if they pick up a big school and lose. Giles should do the same the next week. Giles should be #2 seed if they beat James River next week. That gets you 2 home playoff games, as long as you take care of business. Plus an extra week off this late helps with injuries.

Nothing set in stone yet but the Giles/Auburn game likely will not happen on the 29th since they haven’t had enough players to field a team the last few weeks. Anyone know of any schools that had to cancel a game that would be able to play on the 29th if it’s there open week? Just looking ahead to see the possibilities. With tomorrow’s game not counting towards points since it’s a private school I’d say only counting 8 games could really hurt the Spartans in points.

Giles looks to be in pretty good shape for #2 seed in region. Only way to move up is to run the table, which would include a final game win against Glenvar, or another Galax loss. I don't see either of those happening. Taking a forfeit from Auburn would be better than playing a big school and taking a loss. Plus another week of to try to get/stay healthy for the playoffs

I agree. I definitely think Giles would make it a little more interesting in a rematch but Galax hits another stride come playoff time so we’ll see.

I'm a Giles guy, but the reality is Coach Allen at Galax called off the dogs after they got up 28-0. If memory serves me correct, I believe his first year coaching at Tazewell in 2012,  Giles played them in regularly season. Giles was really good that year, and after dominating the first half, Coach Williams pulled the starters. Tazewell got to score some points in the second half, ending up something like 57-35. Sure Allen remembered and appreciated that. Knowing these 2 teams are in the same district now, and going to matchup often, looks like both coaches like and respect each other. Just my take.

Narrows will make it 3 in a row. Narrows is down from the past 5 years for sure but still has better athletes and skill guys than Giles. Narrows knows the single wing better than anyone. Giles better get Narrows this year bc Narrows doesnt have but 1 senior that really contributes.

    Narrows 22 Giles 13

Guess those athletes and skill players missed the bus

Not at all there Skippy, I guess you thumping your chest when your team hadn't done anything yet had me scratching my head. But you do you if it makes  you feel better.lol

No chest thumping. Just reaffirming my response to your original post. Not everybody on that welcoming committee with Galax
