  1. Correct, Abingdon CHOSE the Mountain 7.  Also the statement about the original tournament finishing yesterday is inaccurate.  The original conference tournament would have been played beginning yesterday.  It was all changed at the end of April first of May to accommodate Abingdon and rightfully so.  However, weather and the start of the region d3 tournament changed those plans and the mountain 7 is now back to the original start date of their tournament.  Except rain once again messed up some of the games yesterday.

So you have the facts?  By all means enlighten the board.

Fact:  On Friday May 17, 2018 there was a schedule for baseball district tournament games to be played at Falcon Field on Saturday May 18, 2018 at 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm.

Fact: Sometime that day there was some sort of vote within the Mountain 7 District and Abingdon Baseball was removed from the district tournament.

Fact: If all teams within a given district are not allowed to participate, then it is not really a district tournament.

I thought I embedded the article from the Bristol paper in my post.  My apologies.

Grayson County is Region D. Remember, they beat Ridgeview in the first round of the football playoffs? Lol

The 8 teams I pick that will make the Region D tournament are Gate City, Union and Wise Central out of the Mountain.

Graham, Richlands, Lebanon and Marion out of the Southwest and Grayson County out of their district. Grayson only has 1 loss on the season.

How they'll be seeded (by power points) I have no idea.

Abingdon should make the 3A region D tournament.

I'm pretty sure, but not 100% sure, that the way basketball works this year is there will be be four teams that make region out of the Mountain Conference, and 4 that make it out of the other conference, (Grayson is included in that conference, although not being in that district).  Then 1 seed from one conference plays 4 seed from other conference and visa versa.  I think this is correct, but not 100%.

  4. He is a really good athlete and basketball player.  As far as the best player out of SWVA I'm going to throw another name at you that played at the same time as the Ervin's. He messed up in life and you never knew what he may do on or off the court, but maybe the best basketball player I saw play in this area was Duffy Gilmore from Ervinton.  I think his senior year he averaged 35 and was the state player of the year without being the district player of the year.  He didn't go on to have the career's as the others mentioned because of mistakes he made, but he was really, really good.

What I've heard from Central fans is the reason they want him gone for is because the jv team wins a lot and he can't win at the varsity level and that's from a few different people.

I remember a time when Appy's JV beat PV most years, but couldn't when those same players were on varsity, and vice versa.

Not to say they don't have a valid argument, however, JV success or lack thereof may be an indicator of varsity performance, but it's never a guarantee.

Also sometimes at the JV level kids are a year or two older, which is a big deal in maturity and other things at that age level, as opposed to once they become older.

Hard work man, congrats! VHSL needs to simplify & go back to old days when "district" champs went on to playoffs or a maximum two from each conference. There's way too many teams competing in a regional playoff but it's about the almighty $$$$. A lot of those teams have no business in playoffs just my humble opinion.

I think this year is better than when there were 16.  The 8 teams that get in will all be pretty solid, and the first few games for traveling teams will be closer.

He was disgruntled with coach at the time.  And I wonder that myself.  The parent I speak of, I haven't seen at a game this year.

Yeah, if the kid decided he didn't want to play I respect that decision.  If the kid didn't play just because his father was upset I hate that for the kid, ya know.  Sometimes getting rid of parents like that also help a program, not always, but sometimes.  I just hate it for the kid.

A parent, who I went to high school with said at that same game last year he wasn't going to let his kid play this year and he kept to his word.  His son's not playing this year.

What was his reason for doing this?  Injuries?  Son not playing?  Not liking losing?  If it's one of the last few I wonder how he feels about his decision a year later?
