Great game Giles guys. Your coaching staff had a hell of a defensive game plan running the 52 monster and covering up our offensive lineman so they couldn’t get to the next level. Which allowed the three backers to be in backfield every play . Our coaching staff never adjusted to it and like you said the line and RB just put it on their shoulders and wore the d line down. Hell of a game though , and you guys will continue to get better and I hope we will as well. But damn that buck lateral that’s two years in a row you guys have scored long runs on us with that play. Lol

Giles has covered every offensive lineman up and allowing the three backers to attack with impunity. Galax coaches have not adjusted at all. Galax getting out played and out coached

By no means am I devaluing Giles. As you can see from my previous post I have always thought of them as a quality team and have never slighted them. Maybe using the term trap is not the right wording. My whole point is saying that it is not an optimal situation to play an improving team from last year who runs a unique offense in a reduced amount of prep time after a big win. Maybe trap is wrong but I don’t have the correct word to use if it is.

Having played on multiple levels and coaching HS for multiple years I can say that a trap game is absolutely a thing not just an excuse. It is a psychological issue as to where the team struggles to get up for the next game after a big win or just get overconfident . I have seen teams absolutely struggle against a way inferior team the following week ( not saying Giles is inferior - just making a point )with absolutely no reason to other than not being mentally ready. I will also say that getting ready for the blocking schemes of the wing that you see once every 365 versus a zone blocking scheme of the pistol that Giles sees multiple times a year is an advantage that goes to Giles . Anyways it is just my humble opinion. It maybe an non issue for Galax . Hope so!

I believe this one will be closer than people are stating. Giles looked good against Blacksburg and as Mt 91 posted in another forum this is a trap game for Galax. Coming off a game like that against Glenvar and having to travel to Giles in a short week of prep is not an ideal situation.

When will be the first episode of ATW for this year? I get a kick out of those guys.

Getting ready for the the Single wing in a two week span is tough enough . Three days is a really tough outing. Giles May put up some really quick points.

What’s your biggest surprise of week 1? For me it was the thorough dismantling of Chilhowie by Marion.

Glenvar has both speed and size. Their strength is their passing game - very dangerous, but they became one dimensional as they could not run on Galax. Glenvar is a good team but Galax is better than what is thought as well. Although Galax has a tremendous amount to clean up .

20 -19 Glenvar over Galax 7:50 left. Galax missed two extra points . Galax has beat Glenvar all over the field but has killed themselves all night. With dropped passes missed tackles double digit penalties.

My point was that team was not a bunch of knuckleheads, no matter what grade they was in that year.

The 2017 team was loaded with talent. Dougie Peoples , lee lee Peoples, Caxton Vaught, Blake Brown, Isaac Hawks , Cole Picket, Cade ashworth , the big Brown kid on the line. All of these kids were some of the best athletes to come through Galax. and yes losing someone like Dougie Peoples was a massive blow. Anytime you lose a multi thousand yard rusher (who was a leading rusher in the state and broke the state record for Todd in a game that same year) that late in the season is devastating . He was also a force on defense and would of made a huge difference chasing down Chilhowie mobile Qb that year .

Riverheads will be competitive in class two and three.

Kid looks good

I had heard that Radford had moved their QB from last year to wideout. If so that surprises me as he was what made Raddy dangerous last year. This game will show us how far GW has come from last years team. I think Galax plays Glenvar tough but our Defense still has some jelling to do yet and Glenvar wins this one.

I would say you would have to go back a long ways to find someone from Galax on here beating their chest. His comment was more on the fact of how tuff a schedule they have in front of them. They are going to be playing Three 2A power houses that all went deep in playoffs last year and one to state and from what everyone is stating all three teams are better this year. As well as a Giles team that had a hell of a year last year and will be better this year- plus it’s Giles. I will say that last night was the sharpest they have looked in a preseason game that I can remember. Especially the line against a monster O and D line in the other side. But these games mean zero

The fact that riverheads applied to stay class 1 certainly gives those who have stated that they have been playing the numbers game all along some credit

All but one of PM line graduated. Although The big RB and QB are back. GW has just about everyone back from a talented squad last year. Will be a very tuff opponent if they gel. Galax lost their QB who was a first year starter but a monster on defense and one RB. Although word is the Freshman QB is supposed to be the most exciting thing to come through Galax in a long time.
