They didnt have a single hit after Compton entered according to the stats I've seen. They are a good offensive team regardless. Dont know much about their defense.

Well they hit a home run that didn’t count, so that’s the loudest out possible.

I don't think I've seen this discussed on here, but why did Honaker with both their girls' and boys' teams playing, choose to split their crowd by not playing at UVA-Wise?

Eastside was the 1 seed so they got to choose the venue

Unofficially this is what I've been told:

    Eastside vs. Honaker at UVa-Wise

Wise Central vs. Ridgeview at UVa-Wise

Virginia High vs. Graham at UVa-Wise

Abingdon vs. LCA at Virginia High

    Honaker vs. Auburn at Lebanon

Abingdon girls wanted to play at Emory and Henry but were denied.  UVa-Wise, Virginia High and Lebanon were approved semifinal venues.  Semifinals MUST be played at a neutral location as chosen by the higher seed, hence why Virginia High can't play at the Bearcat Den.  The only puzzling thing is why Honaker didn't choose UVa-Wise to play the boys game as this may split the fan base up.  Hear they're going to try to play the girls game early so the Honaker fans can get to Lebanon as well, but it seems to me that the fans get the shaft for having to pay twice.

Once again, this is what I was told.

Seems like Va High and Graham would want to play at Lebanon too-that’s right in the middle for both of them

Positional development. A particular coach and a particular offense.  There are/were two pass-oriented offenses in SWVA.....well, add Honaker to that, so three.

Lebanon threw the ball a ton this year….probably more than Richlands.

Sach, I may be wrong, but didn't Lebanon beat Union by 7 or 8 points? I could be wrong, but thought they did. Also, I think Honaker split beat Lebanon and Union and also lost to Lebanon and Union. Honakers most impressive game is a narrow loss to Carroll County and Carroll is darn good. These scores are Maxpreps though, so u know what that means. If the scores are correct, there's a decent argument for Honaker being in the top 3 in this poll and not 5th.

Honaker girls almost beat Carroll not boys.

Honaker boys are 4-4 but have played a brutal schedule.

    You're right...

I can see now where I was perhaps a little bit harsh.

Based on the responses looks like majority agrees with you.

I should've said "I don't like this tournament" and left it at that.

Holiday tournaments to me are supposed to be about fresh matchups that aren't likely to be seen or at the very least maybe a future playoff rematch later down the road.

It’s not like there’s a bunch of schools within distance of Wise, and Wise doesn’t have the draw that Bristol does in terms of hosting schools from way out of town etc.  More Kentucky schools would be good, I know Letcher came a few years ago

I agree that you don’t want to play a team 3-4 times a year, that’s definitely the drawback, but it’s a good chance for local kids to play in a nice facility in a tournament setting.

All I know is that the Blues are gonna draw interest, especially if they run a "fun" offense that showcases skill.  For those who say you can't win with a passing offense.......Radford says you can.  Ridgeview was on that path until they self imploded with the coaching change.   Honaker made it to the Final Four before losing to the eventual state champs....but it was their defense that let them down...not the high flying passing offense.  If the past, those talented basketball kids didn't play football....too skinny.  Those kids are now WRs and DBs and are flying up and down the field.  Skill and speed kill.

For all of the “Air Raid” talk, that high flying passing offense of Honaker’s depended an awful lot on Lowe running the ball in the playoffs.

If anyone is looking for a good basketball game to go to tmrw. Honaker and Lebanon play at Lebanon. In the past three years Lebanon leads the series 4-3 with all three losses coming at home. That plus all the transfers between the two schools has just added gas to the fire. Should be an electric atmosphere at the Mecca on Friday night

Actually Lebanon won at home in 2021 on a buzzer beater

So what does this hire mean for the surrounding schools?

How many coaches and/or players come back or go to Richlands from Graham, Tazewell, Honaker and any other schools as a result of this coach?

A whole lot of folks who were recently mad about people recruiting AWAY from Richlands are suddenly going to become ok with the head coach recruiting TO Richlands.

I agree. No reason there shouldn't be 4 like NC. Once you get up in the higher classifications I don't think there's much of a drop off between divisions anyway. I don't know what some schools enrollments are but I'd imagine Stone Bridge and Maury should be in the highest level of VA football.

NC has had 8 classifications for football for quite some time
