Hayes.  By far the best basketball player on wise’s team.  Hate it for him.  Go ahead and give dean player of the year for m7.  Why didn’t tj let the prodigal son guard him ?

Hayes can play ball got to give credit where credit is due but whoever compared 32 to Mac clearly didn’t watch the same games I did 2 years ago

Had to get in here and talk about how proud I am of our Warrior Basketball program right now.
Right now, our Warriors are 10-1. We are undefeated in Virginia and have lost only once that being to a team in the Arby’s Classic. We would have won the sixth place game but when you play an Arby’s Classic tournament schedule like we had this year, which was way tougher than Gate City’s in 2017-18 when they won the sixth place game, you do what you can.
Last night, the Warriors were true to their school name. Hats off to Zac who had the Bears very prepared and while the game was surprisingly close, people outside of Wise County have to realize that all of our basketball contests are like this.  History proves it.
Union may currently be 1-3 but the record does not show how great of a team they are. Our Warriors are by far the best team in our district. Lee would be second. Maybe GC or Ridgeview is third or fourth but Ridgeview on the other hand isn’t that great of a team. Athletic yes but not a great basketball team. They and GC are very much alike this year. The only player that GC has this year is Dean but he doesn’t impact a game like Isaiah.
Ridgeview for instance we had them down nearly 20 but a lot of our guys lost that competitive edge and let them come back. We forgot everything about the game of basketball and it about cost us. All except Isaiah who is truly by far the best player in the district. Without him we don’t win. Ridgeview according to my reports from someone who listened to the game on the internet played close to GC all night long and led them. Proves my point.
Elijah is for sure the second best just as the paper says but definitely not quite the impact player that Isaiah clearly is and without a doubt the very best player not just in Southwest Virginia but in the entire area from Roanoke to Knoxville.
Show me anyone who can take over a game and make such an impact like he can.  No one has impacted the game like him ever since Mac McClung at Gate City and if not for his injury last year he would be as good as Mac or better. Last night proved he is a way better player on the floor than Mac ever was in high school because he was calling out what defenses to play and doing the things basketball coaches never dream their players could ever do on the high school level. Mac was a good player like Isaiah but he never had his basketball savvy.
People may ask why he isn’t getting offers from division one schools. Maybe he is but Isaiah is so humble he will not talk about them and crave attention like everyone from Gate City does.
People ask me if we are excited about playing GC next week.  We are but it is just another game where the district teams are going to give us their best shot. Make no mistake, all GC is worried about is their “streak”.  Appearances mean everything to them.  After we take their best shot Tuesday, just watch and see who is left standing.  We might celebrate a little bit but not much because if you know what the outcome will be and are prepared for that outcome it’s not that big of a deal and we have had bigger wins this year anyway.
Our goal is set way higher than beating GC.  Our goal is Richmond. Gate City is just a stumbling block to get there. Very proud of our team in all respects!

I’m not bashing no kids but from what I’ve watched mac was hands down the best basketball player I’ve seen come from swva in my time but what’s Mac have to do with anything he beat y’all like drums he isn’t worried about wise central no more I’m about positive he has a ring wise boys don’t

No, just someone who clearly saw what happened. The pictures show exactly what happened. Union LB had the QB by the jersey, he knew if he took him down its a penalty so he let go. Look at the link posted.

It's not an opinion if it's wrong, then it's just denying facts. The facts are, it was not a horse collar and film/pics prove it.

Where is the pics I’ve clicked on the link and it takes my to a Facebook page with 1000 of pictures

I am going to stop you right there.

If you aren’t butt hurt about losing twice then stop right there, quit complaining, and either drop it or stop posting.

😂😂 I stated facts bud and I believe I’ll say what I want and was you there????

I have heard of this “magic.” I haven’t heard of the refs benefitting Union as being part of the so-called magic.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Gate City after researching them and catching them at the big game in Salem. You are doing nothing to help the reputation.

Gate City lost. Be a big boy and accept the loss and tip your hat to the winner.

Big boy 😂 I’m not butt hurt they beat us twice I’m just saying what I seen let me ask this was you there??

I promise you, it was not. You are wrong man. He purposefully made the adjustment to not get a horse collar call. He was slung down but not by the back. It was correctly called.

that's hilarious coming from a GC fan, bc opposing teams always get a fair shake over there right?

What was you a referee or on the chain gang  and nothing near as bad as bullit park but you have your opinion and I have mine I’ll say it was a horse collar because it was

I believe I know what play you're referencing and it really wasn't a horse collar tackle man. I had a good angle on it and the player was slung down by his jersey, not taken down from the back. If we had film, it's pretty easy to see why it wasn't called. But if you didn't have a clear view I can see why someone would question it.

4th quarter gc 4&7 that was a horse collar I had a good angle as well but it’s done and over with but that’s the bullit park magic it happened back then and it happens now

Nope nope nope, I was at the goal line and the clock showed -0- timeouts and the head white hat told Houseright that he didn’t have anymore time outs left, he ran Houseright off the field , then reset the play clock....no penalty????we were all over the refs , but no call, another thing was when Gate City pulled their linemen they lined up in the backfield?????

That’s the least the refs could do for gc after the stuff I seen 😂😂

I guess winning 1 game is a big improvement.   At least gc was close in games last year.  With the majority of players a year older 1 win is a major improvement with such wonderful coaching.   Gc people should not be so easily pleased . By the way, I was not referring to you as a ex scott county coach.  Guess it is a connecting county to wise!! What about the knowledge of offensive and defensive formations? Also, since people on this site seem to think moving a certain og to rb is a great coaching move what about breaking a few runs only to be run down.  Then needing to come out and rest. This tactic may keep games close for a few quarters before other team pulls away..  Put a runner in back field that can score on any carry !! Which that leads back to my original post....😁😁

You are a IDIOT if you think gc was better last year 😂😂

We definitely were limited on offense with both of those kids out.  Calhoun was the workhorse for sure.  I also think that’s what helped contribute to the fatigue that Unions defense looked like they had.  Having to tackle a guy like that all night would wear out anybody I’m sure.

#2 wasn’t to his 100% mark after last weeks injury and having #12 and #11 out didn’t help a bit all three are play makers and #45 is a tough and physical man he gets rolling he is goin places

  11. 7 hours ago, BigWinners said:

That makes more sense. I wasn't trying to down GC, it's just people had repeatedly talked about you guys having some burners that got involved with the offense but tonight they tried to basically go between the tackles or off tackle every time. Not a lot of passing threat but a solid run attack.

I was surprised by the chippy play as someone else mentioned. It will look like Union was the only side guilty (a couple personal fouls) but it was 100% both sides. A couple situations could have drawn flags but that's not important.

Union really made GC pay when the Bears attacked the edges in the first half, but GC adjusted somewhat and clamped down on the jet sweep action after the half.

But Gibson had some beautiful throws tonight, the more they trust him and allow Union to attack all areas of the field, the more dangerous they become. A hitch route, some bootleg looks hitting out routes, some go routes, etc..  The only thing missing is attacking the middle of the field with crossers and slants, but those are the riskiest throws for someone still getting acclimated to QB.

It really hurt our offense having our speedsters banged up but man y’all defense is tough good luck the rest of the road

Very good first half, Union showed ability to move the ball thru the air as well as on the ground, but came out flat after the break while GC clawed and scratched to get within two scores.

GC has a very physical runner in Calhoun, but the supposed speed that GC had, I didn't see. No knock, I was just expecting to see some speedsters.

#2,#11, and#12 are all speedsters and 2 of them was out and one was banged up and  only played 2 plays on offense they have speed to try and  when #2 was in union done a great job of knowing where the ball was goin hats of to union for a well played game

I think #55 is doing a great job at guard. His drive blocking is beautiful. Too bad he’s not a twin so GC could have him in both spots. As I’ve said before, I think the 2018 o line features three potentially all-region players. This is why is it extremely frustrating to continually watch the opposing defenders crunch GC’s backs as they’re taking the handoff...

    and our pass protection: 🤢💩🤢💩🤢💩

He is a great linemen but he can move the ball for us to

I just wonder if number 2 might get to carry the ball anymore this season? He seems to do a nice job when he gets the chance.

Put the correct fullback back there and watch number 2 boogy around the corner there again to many wrong positions don’t make a right
