  1. Oops see post above. Meant to respond to you and responded to G man by accident.
  2. Sat with Christiansburgs Principal. Very good friend of mine. He informed me that the varsity would be scrimmaging Auburn and Auburn didnt have a jv team. They asked to be a part of the scrimmage for the jv only. Most of the scrimmaging was between jv and 2nd teamers. 1st teams had only 3 turns on each side of the ball.
  3. Well. After the refs left, the coaches did a MUCH better job of controlling the action on the field.
  4. I think they were working on the passing game. The run game struggled the few times they did run the ball. Glenvar had a lot to do with that I think. They have quite a defense as well.
  5. Graham and Glenvars 2nd teams drove down the field in their 2nd possession but both came up short. 3rd possession for 1st teamers went with down markers. Glenvar loses 10 yards in 3 plays and punts. Lester scrambles for 20 on 3rd and long to pick up a first down. Lester hits Ray for a 35 yard strike to the corner of the end zone. XP try is good. Graham 1st team scores 2 tds in 3 possessions, but even so, most plays looked out of synch. If Lester had been allowed to run, he would have had several huge gainers. Overall impression of Graham is that the defense is way ahead of where they were at this point last year. Offense is behind where they were at this point last season. Lot of work to do. The line held their own on both sides of the ball against an experienced Glenvar line and that is a good sign. Not a lot of depth for Graham however and if Lester gets hurt, they are in trouble. Glenvar is big and strong but not much speed.
  6. 2nd offensive series with starters, Lester appears to break a long one that probably would have went to the house. Refs blew it dead apparently qbs cant be tackled in the scrimmage and somebody touched him with a fingernail, I didnt see it. 60 yard td pass to Marcus Ray on next play. Ray showed great athleticism on the play. Cheap shot on Lester after whistle on next play and a skirmish breaks out, several players involved. Both teams get a lecture in middle of field. Deep pass by Lester caught but blown dead, again nobody touched him. For some reasons the refs are not on the field anymore but the coaches apparently have decided to keep going.
  7. Cheap shot by Glenvar on Grahams 2nd string qb gets Graham fired up. First teamers back in and Glenvar ball carriers getting met in the backfield. Isaac Dalton doing an excellent job at Defensive end. Blanket coverage on pass plays. Defense looked on point in their 2nd series. Glenvar did manage 1 completion for about 12 yards in the 10 play series, a quick out. QB scrambled for about 15. under heavy pressure, everything else went backwards in a hurry.
  8. Offensive first series for Graham looked out of synch. Line held up fine against Glenvar D Line. Several incomplete passes. Ray had one run of about 10 yards. Lester could have tucked and ran for daylight several times, looks like they are working on timing. I think they were 0-7 passing that first series. Lot of ducks flying around out there. No score from either team in jv action. Grahams 2nd team is going backwards. Glenvars 2nd team not much better.
  9. Grahams D is a bit undersized against Glenvars Big O line, but held their own well.got a good push into the backfield a couple times. Glenvar managed about 20 yards on the ground in first 10 plays and had one catch for 15 yards.
  10. Graham certainly passing the eye test in warm ups. Some of those kids have been eating cornbread and beans this off-season.
  11. Tazewells numbers went up by a couple. Dont sleep on the Dogs. A little bit of depth on the line and a lot of talent at the skill positions. I like what I see from them right now.
  12. No, the way the schedule was posted earlier in the thread, I thought Gate City was a scrimmage. In that case, probably a 1-4 start or 2-3. and 4 of last 5 should be wins. Still yet, 7-3 at best. Likely 5-5 or 6-4.
  13. Looking at their schedule, they very well could start out at 1-3 or 0-4. 2-2 would be a huge accomplishment, but I'm leaning more towards 1-3 or 0-4 to start the season, Mance may need to wait a while for win #200. They should beat 5 of the remaining 6. I'll stick with my original prediction of 7-3 at best and 5-5 at worst.
  14. Can somebody please clarify the time of Graham vs Glenvar on thursday? I have seen 6:00 and 7:00. I would think its probably 6:00, but need clarification. Thanks.
  15. I would think Xayvion Turner primarily and Marcus Ray should get some touches out of the backfield. Guess we will see tomorrow.
  16. Planning on checking out Graham and Glenvar in Christiansburg on Thursday. I want to see how the line holds up against a big and experienced Glenvar line.
  17. Graham doesn't have an intra-squad scrimmage. But they did have an open practice where fans could watch. I wanted to go watch them saturday, but was unable to make it. I heard that the pads were poppin and there was some hard hitting going on out there. Sounds like the old Carlock days, he always said that practice should be harder than the games. The games were usually a break from the hits taken in practice. I posted this in the wrong thread, meant to post it in the scrimmage thread...
  18. Many a coach have ruined high school programs because they are totally inept at motivating kids to come out and play. (Some are inept at managing a team and other coaches - I wouldn't be able to handle it either). I always heard good things about Hart, so not saying this is the case with Bland. However, I know of other coaches who are total pricks to the kids and are more concerned about being in charge than reaching out to kids and trying to motivate them and show that they actually care about them as an individual and want them to succeed. I know- have known too many coaches like that. The best programs create a family atmosphere where the kids and coaches support each other and can also have fun. If a kid doesn't enjoy playing, there are a million other things for them to do. I agree that some kids will play regardless of the coach, but a whole heck of a lot of them don't want to have some middle aged man screaming and criticizing them. A kid can tell if you really care or not in a heartbeat and they will give a lot more effort to a coach who's heart is in it too. In Bland's case, I think it's a numbers game, very small school, little leagues aren't producing players. It's got to be tough and was just a matter of time.
  19. https://twitter.com/JIMRNP/status/1159559664734023682/photo/1 I'm counting 39 in the team picture for the Bulldogs, may be a couple out.
  20. Possible losses are Bluefield, Graham, Radford, Union, Abingdon. I don't see them beating the first 3 in that list, but you never know.
  21. Non- common out of district opponents may work too.
  22. Unfortunate for the kids at Bland, if they want to play, they may have to transfer. Doesnt seem that long ago that there was no football in the county. May be back to those days again.
  23. I hope Im right too. But you may be correct. Some schools will have some in the weight room on some days.
