  1. Big game tonight between two of the top teams in the M7.  This one could have big conference championship implications.  Ridgeview has yet to be tested, however GC has already had a few close games.  Playing at GCMS is never easy but I think the Pack will weather the storm and come out on top in a close one.

I watched the Honaker and Wise games on nfhs.  Ridgeview is playing really well.   Wise appeared to be a little weak after the main three (Mccamis, Jordan, Looney).   Ridgeview is deeper at guard position and Hill played well.  I am no Wise fan by any means and am glad to see Ridgeview beat them but the intentional foul at the end was a joke call by Conley I think.  Approx. 20 seconds left, Ridgeview up either 1-2 pts, and they are trying to foul to stop clock.   It was a very simple, easy foul.   Nothing overly physical, no shove,  just hands on the girl.   That was the wrong call for that situation.

Watch it again, #12 pulled Hill's pony tail.  That's an automatic intentional foul.

  3. Just watched this one on NFHS.  Abingdon was outcoached, that's what it comes down to.  The way that Ramsey and Osborne are (not) used on offense is mind blowing.  Add that to the lack of discipline and not taking care of the ball at the end, not a good way to start the conference schedule.  Hats off to Coach Barnes on having his team ready.  Anybody else notice that Ramsey was trying to call timeout at the end?  Not saying it would have made a difference, but it would have given them a chance at a heave.

He did not!  He got his 5th foul by setting an illegal screen.  He was upset and went to bench where his frustrations got the most of him and he kicked a chair.  Why go and say he shoved a player?  Just trying to give him a worse reputation.  In no way or means am I taking up for this conduct.  He needs to control his emotions or don't be on the floor. Central was only down 3 and had momentum.  After this Central lost all momentum.  This game was a lot more closer than what the score indicates.  This game could've went either way until the technicals.  Central is better than most think.  Oh and by the way, the technical came with 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter.  Close game

You are somewhat right.  The first technical was for shoving a player, then later he got his 5th foul and threw a tantrum.

As for the rest of the game, 72 free throws!!!!  How many did Collins shoot?  Seemed like he went to the line every time down the floor.

  5. This one isn’t even over but my assessment of this one is that RV has more athletes that happen to have a little bit of basketball talent. Collins for Central is a good player but he got bailed out a lot on his spin moves to the basket. He also likes to use the ole chicken wing when he makes his initial move. The Dotson kid shouldn’t see the floor again. After the fight last year and temper tantrum tonight I would ask for his jersey and tell him to stay at home. There’s no place for that.

I agree with this.  One coach achieved what he should have or even slightly less than expected and one achieved significantly more.  Which coaching performance had the most impact on his team’s performance?  We over value the wins too often. Tough call on this one.

Completely agree.  Houseright could have taken the kids at Ridgeview and done just as good or better.  No way does Stanley do as good at Gate City.

regardless of why each decide to hold back, another guaranteed year at home with mom and dad is always welcome. they're only young once, and it may be the only tool to hold on to that for just a little while longer.  the world ain't the same as it used to be.  it's a lot scarier now with the craziness you read in the paper daily.

I was wondering when someone would bring this up.  I wonder how many parents have held their kids back just simply to have them at home one more year.

  8. What are everybody's thoughts on high school transfers and holdbacks?  I know it has been happening for years but with my kids getting older the topic gets brought up often.  I go back and forth on it and can't make up my mind either way.  I know my kids aren't going to be standouts or play professionally, but I would like for them to at least have a chance to see the field/court when they get to high school.
