  1. Meg's coached at Glenvar for 2 seasons. Glenvar had 7 consecutive non-winning seasons prior to Meg's taking over as Head Coach. He went 7-3 his first year and 6-4 during the next which was his last season. For the first time in 7 years, Glenvar not only had 1 winning season, but it had two in a row at the hands of a young-newly started Head Coach.
  2. It would be like Union buying cleats from Bluefield or Princeton. Richland's actually purchased their cleats 27 years ago in the town of Salem if I'm not mistaken. It may have been Roanoke, but it was very very close to the town of the team they were playing. Imagine Union purchasing cleats that are a touch to long from Bluefield, WV or Princeton, WV, and then hosting Graham. That's actually what happened with Richlands 27 years ago. With that written, I think Richlands was still better than Salem and the King of 4A (Div 4) football that year. I was at the Salem game in 92, and also at the championship against Orange County. Also, in 1993, Richlands was banned from the playoffs which was the year after the state title. That Richlands 1993 team would have repeated in Div 4, (AA, Div 4) if they would have been allowed to make it. I would argue that to the end. That 93 team was absolutely on fire by game 10 and I think they would have repeated. They were brutal up front.
  3. As for game strategy, I'm thinking this.......if I'm Graham, I'm keying on Polier every play with a spy, be it Edwards or Kastner, and I'm ensuring big Meadows is on defense on early snaps where Union is likely to run and can't get a huge push, and thus forcing them into a long second and/or 3rd down. Also, having Lester knowing exactly where Jenkins is on every play as Union will try to get him the ball in conservative passing situations. If I'm Union, I'm betting that Graham doesn't have the discipline to go 70 yrds down the field in a long-sustained drive, thus I'm keeping everything in front of me and refusing to get beat deep. I'm counting on a Graham penalty/hold (which Graham is capable of doing for sure) and or a turnover/offsides with the fan noise that kills their drive, and by all of the above, refusing to get beat deep or with the big play and counting on Graham not being able to repeatedly move the ball down the field methodically, if I just don't give up the big play, they will get a penalty or turnover (discipline issues) and their drive stopped. Whichever team in my opinion gets the best of the other in those situations above will come out on top. I think it's within 1 td either way, and this game is going to be nailbitingly close. Sasquatch, since you asked for thoughts on strategy, that is my take on it.
  4. I'm a train horn dude. One of the few things that can compete with the train horn is a "mine whistle." I think air horns are to soft. If your tradition is having a horn like Giles or Unions, then the only sportsmanship lacking would be for that horn not to be there during any game. These things are what makes High School Football special.
  5. You will see a drop off at Salem (for their standards) over the next 5 years. Megs was an incredible coach and actually a better one than Willis White. Salem's dominance will ease up some from where they have historically been. They struck it rich hiring the former Salem QB (Megs) and this guy was just on another level for High School Coaches. Holter could be another great one, but I just doubt he will be able to replicate what Magenbauer did.
  6. Tell you this...I will be the bigger man. May both Graham and Union have an injury free game and time to move on about discussion about the game, not two people disagreeing.
  7. Some of Appos games are streamed on Facebook Live, so once again, I will repeat to you, "you knoweth not what u speaketh." You sound so confident, but just get stuff wrong about sheeiiitttee. Whitewash used informally commonly refers to holding an opponent in a sporting event scoreless. I first heard the term used by a former Graham coach who was originally from and played at Abingdon. It's a common term, especially in European soccer but the arrogance or ignor........on your part allows some deductive process in your head stating something like this, "because I haven't heard it, it's not used." You didn't call me out. To call someone out, you have to be correct. I called you out, and now you are angry and you made the statement that Appo isn't in the same league as Pikeville. I say they are. I never mentioned a thing about Graham beating Ridgeview by 60. I think Graham will beat them if both get that far, but it's all about matchups. It's exactly why a passing team like Pikeville best a team like Ridgeview so bad. You should know that. What have Ridgeview fans been worried about defensively? It's also why a vicious run defensive team in Appo who plays tons of one on one in the secondary with great speed on it's defense is one bad matchup for Ridgeview because they will force them to throw it. I got Appo whitewashing Ridgeview and smacking em by 5-6 touchdowns if the two meet. It's simply my opinion which is opposite of yours. P.S. I told you we can let it go there, but I can see you don't play well with others. A civil discussion with you doesn't seem possible, and you quickly become agressive when someone has a different opinion from yours and you immediately make it personal. You aren't fooling anyone bro.
  8. I got this as a tossup game that's decided by 7 points either way. I've seen on here some saying Graham by 2 or more TDs, and I respect that, but just disagree. The old saying goes, "it's tough to beat a good team twice." There's also the mindset that "if I accomplished this task before, then I can do it again." 50/50 game in my opinion with Graham having a good chance to come back to Bluefield with a loss. The first qtr and mid second qtrs decides the game. If Graham gets a 17 point lead, it's over. If Union is tied or ahead at halftime in a low scoring game, I like Unions chances by much more than 50%.
  9. I will be at the Region D vs Region C game regardless of who represents Region D. I will be rooting hard for Central, Union, and/or Ridgeview if Graham is not the team to make it. I'm not an Appo fan by any means, BUT...I respect a winner. I am of the mindset that you don't hate winners, you should want to be like winners. I don't hate wealth or wealthy people, I focus on trying to be wealthy. I speak very highly of Appo because I respect them, but I for dang sure hope they lose by 45 points to any Region D team.
  10. I thought you were done with it? I just know you said Appo isn't in the same league as Pikeville and that Appo vs Ridgeview would be a coin flip. I told you if Appo played Ridgeview, it could be "Pikeville all over again." That implies a bad beating (which I believe) and not a coin flip as you stated. I think Appo would absolutely throttle Ridgeview. A blowout, not a coin flip. Now, that may bother you, but it's this guys take on seeing both teams play this year. You like to use the words "not in the same league." You haven't seen Appo and have no clue what your talking about. You can't stand Appo because of the 2017 loss. I've read your comments on here as you seemingly bring that game up or how Union was the best team in the state in 2017 frequently. I'm a Gmen fan through and through and I'm not sold on Ridgeview. They've never made it past the second round of the playoffs and until they do so, I'm not buying it. They would get whitewashed against Appomattox.
  11. P.S. If you are GW fan and driving to Narrows, I assume most would know, but some of you may have not been over that way on 460. If the speed limit says 35, go 33. If it says 40, go 38. If you do what's commonly done across the country and go 4-5 over, you are done. If you go 1 over, consider it 50-50. That's one of Virginias biggest speed traps along with Route 58 around Emporia.
  12. Doesn't own anything. The old SWD teams played at a higher classification and the competition much tougher. Sometimes you had 4A schools in the old SWD compared to many 1A schools in the old Lonesome Pine. The LPD schools were playing at their size/enrollments. The old SWD was playing AA ball in the 70s through the mid 80s when there was 3 classifications and these teams should have been Single A, and when we went to six classifications in 86, the same was happening as many played 3A and 4A and the schools were traditionally, at the lowest end of enrollment statewide for their classification. If I'm not mistaken GC was in the SWD in 1974 when they won their second title and maybe in the old Highlands District in 97. These SWD teams were battling historical powerhouses in the playoffs teams like Blacksburg, Salem, Martinsville in the 70-80s, Jefferson Forest, Rustburg and oh yeah...Giles. meanwhile, the LPD was battling it out with Parry McCluer, Madison County, and Bath Co. PV had some battles over a solid team and I will give them that in Central of Lunenberg. That program was legit, but PV had three losing seasons in a row the year before consolidation and it's last title in 98ish, and Appy didn't have a winning season in it's final 3 yrs before consolidation and it's last title in 1997. That's been over 20 years. There's no question in my mind that Richland's, GC, Graham, and even Giles (dropped years before) has put a dent in those historical titles for the old LPD programs of which are nearly all consolidated.. All of a sudden, as Union has surely felt, the road to getting to the title game is incredibly more difficult. Union may have had the best team in 2017, but that's what makes it tough with the restructuring in classifications. Graham I can assure was the best team in 3A on 2 occasions it didn't win it, buy at that level of competition, you can easily lose. Same for Richland's in 93 and 2010 in my opinion, but was banned from the 4A playoffs in 93. What Union has experienced is much like what Graham and Richland's have experienced for years minus Graham's 10 year abscence from football for the latter 2000s through the mid 2010-20 decade.
  13. The field in Pearisburg should be perfectly clean.
  14. Good, you be done with it then. Pikeville throttles Ridgeview. Pikeville escapes Paintsville, and Paintsville escapes Union. The weak link in that is Ridgeview and Appo would hammer them, and Appo is in the same league as Pikeville and so is Union and Graham. On a good day, Graham would trounce Appo, but Appo can beat Graham playing at Appo. The above are my opinions. Bold? Maybe. It's not as bold as a stupid a% statement such as Appo is living in the past or that Pikeville would beat Graham by 30.
  15. And I never stated that you said that. I agree with your post. Read back through the thread and you will see what I was referring to.
  16. Huge difference in winning and "not being in the same league with."
  17. Who is giving them the crown? I'm not. I'm just saying at this point in the season, they are a very good 2A team that is very, very capable of beating the Region D winner when considering there's a chance it could be on Appo's home field if Ridgeview does not win Region D.
  18. Another screw job that WV does to it's southern portion of the state. Wheeling and Charleston are fine, but nope....not Bluefield and Mitchell Stadium. Can't play a title game at Mitchell.
  19. Dude, no offense, but are you nuts? Living in the past as in Appo. They are burying teams the last 7 games and are an incredible 2A football team. I'm telling you right now, if.....a big IF we are fortunate enough to win this region, Appo will be considered the favorite over Graham playing at Appo. I would favor them myself. They are playing at that kind of level right now and certainly they are not living in the past. For the next 3 years, they are loaded with talent by the way.
  20. CalPreps uses transitive property theory to calculate predictions that are over 90 percent accurate, purely on scores of all teams and opponents. Transitive Property when applied correctly, can be very accurate.
  21. Appo has been King of all of VA at the 2A level for 3 out of 4 years and that's a fact. Appo played RE Lee in the state title game in 2017. That Lee team beat Riverheads by 2 TDs. In 2016, Appo played and beat Richland's who beat Stuart's Draft who beat Riverheads in regular season. In 2019, Glenvar lost by 2 TDs to Riverheads and Glenvar lost by 3 to Galax. Watch and see what happens this coming weekend when Glenvar plays Appo. Appo this year is much like Graham last year. They have come out of nowhere to improve by leaps and bounds and they just aren't anything close to the beginning of the season.
  22. We disagree. Let's leave it at that. I've seen Appo play, and I'm talking about Appo seeing wide open offenses more than SWVA teams. I wasn't referring to Appo's offense, but you didn't read through post. Pikeville beat Paintsville 7-6. Paintsville probably should have lost to Union. Pikeville is fallable. Kentucky football at Pikeville level is not close to VA football at Pikeville level. A team that is familiar with Pikeville offense held them to 7 point, and Union nearly beat that team. If Appo and Pikeville played, Appo would be right there with em and to say Appo isn't on their level is flat out wrong in my opinion.
