Lee High has made some mental mistakes. At least 3 or 4 false starts. Some holding penalties. They can’t get anything going.

This is a Richlands program that has begun to trend down in the last 4-5 years. I do think Gate City has gotten better in the last few years and will continue to do so. But beating Richlands by 3-5 scores will not be so much a statement by Gate City.

We probably would have heard by now. It doesn’t matter if the weather is prime because I can’t go. I am getting over COVID.

With it being hotter than hell is there any chance they move the game to 8?

Gate City has improved. These ain’t the Devils of 2017 or 18. Granted they ain’t the 2003 or 2010 Devils who won state this century. I honestly had a gut feeling last year that they may find a way to beat us before the regular season game. They were about overdue. My parents thought I was crazy.

I don’t disagree with any of that. But it’s Elizabethton. They are a good barometer for what Union needs to work on and what Union does well with.

Well the one I grew up with was in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Just off the exit on US23. They were Columbia Blue and Red. Mascot was a Viking The first 20 some years had some decent and bad teams. The decent teams couldn’t get over the hump. Then in 1982, a dynasty began to emerge with the the program’s first state championship over Madison County. The record was 12-0-1. Phil Robbins came in 1983, and kept the ship on a good path. More state championships began to follow in 1985, 1989, 1990, 1994, 1995, 1997, and 1998. There was a runner up trophy in 2004, in which the Vikings had a late game rally in the championship game against his heck of a Manassas Park team. The rally came up short in the last minutes as a key dead ball penalty and inability to get first down, followed by an interception in the end zone which doomed them as they lost 20-13.

It makes sense about the 2 within the viewing area. Now it did work out that Union’s first one is the game they host Gate City.

Gate City has used a train horn for years. I think way back in the day they used a whistle called the Big Blue Cannonball. I know Gate City’s Rescue Squad has used sirens on the ambulance when they scored. I know Lee High used one in 2015 or 16. During the Powell Valley days I recall an air raid siren being used.

Extremely weak. Bath County used to be a powerhouse. Craig County is Craig County. 3-7 is a banner year for them. No disrespect but they just aren’t a football school. It’s largely a farming community. Big time FFA program. I taught in Craig County. Great kids. I will say that the coach is trying to get them working on the little things, which means nothing if they only have 15 players every year. I wanna see them do well.

Yep. I remember those days. Had the Dolphins, Chargers, Chiefs, and Packers. The older groups were called Peanut and the younger group was Crunch Bunch. They’d practice together. Crunch Bunch would usually play their games at halftime and they would each play stand alone games like the 3rd week in. In fact I played on the Dolphins with Brad Robbins. Phil Robbins was definitely involved and he was watching. You hoped he would notice you if you decided to play for him in high school.

I’ve seen a lot of people favoring us to win M7. I mean we could. I wouldn’t sleep on Gate City. They are hungry to get back to being a contender. Never count out Ridgeview or Abingdon of course.

I always grow nervous around midseason for Union. Regardless of how good they are, there’s always that midseason game or games where they are just flat and out of sync and lose a game they should have won.
