They avenged the PV loss in the playoffs and lost 17-3 to Floyd County in state semis. 02, 10-0, dropped state semis against George Wythe. 08 and 09 they went 8-2 and 9-1 respectively and lost to Lebanon in second round of playoffs both seasons.

When they came to Bullitt Park in 2015, they were EXTREMELY mouthy.

Watched the live video of the woman who always showed live footage of the game before she got caught. I told her she should see Bristol Motor Speedway and she said it’s on her bucket list. Heard her talking about the homeless shelter. Y’all have our number in Far SWVA. Last Far SWVA team to beat y’all was Lee High in 2014. While Region D is looking to settle the score, a gesture like that would make it hard to pull against y’all if you beat Graham. Much respect. Showing the love of Jesus. That’s what the Christmas season is about.

I assure you that Union’s band is not very loud. Not to criticize our band at all. But even when they had like 100-110 members their sound wasn’t big. But those are good kids and I have nothing but respect for their teacher. I always chuxkledw at how they’d play “Forget You” by CeeLo every time the opposing team scored. And I know you weren’t directing the request at Union’s band. You seem fairly classy to me.

Saw Union vs. Gate City in September. Was a real homecoming for me since we just moved back to the area (Kingsport) from Roanoke area in July. GC, they gave an effort, one they didn’t need to give as GC was so bad. Central game they looked like they didn’t want to be at the game.

Some people deny Phil’s obvious aptitude. If the team and assistants do not buy in then forget about it. The athletes, especially the ones with enormous talent, bought into Phil’s coaching plan. He was able to develop the talent. Sure he had the talent but if you have some dunderhead like say Alexandria Ocasio Cortez then it doesn’t matter.

I will say that Phil is an asshole but he was a great coach. Over 300 career wins. Only missed the playoffs twice, 1984 and 1991. Coached them to state titles number 2 through 8. Came close to beating a loaded Manassas Park in 2004. Found ways to win. Yeah he sucked ass 🙄

That was a ridiculous excuse from some of the Ridgeview folks. I never dropped my phone from laughing so hard until then. Our announcer is a nice guy but his announcing is dull. Now Clintwood’s announcer was definitely not dull. I liked him. Referring to us as “the Burrs!”

Gate City? Let’s talk about Gate City. They played for a state championship in 1994 and lost to John Handley 12-7. They were 7-3 before losing to Graham in the second round of the Division 3 playoffs in 1995. They went 10-0 before losing a heartbreaker against Brookville in the Division 3 state semis in 1996. A team that is considered one of the best Gate City teams that didn’t win state. The 1997 team was a team of destiny. Going 8-2–losing to Appalachia and PV the respective Division 1 and 2 champions—and winning the Division 3 state championship. 1998 3-7. Not their standard at the time. 1999 10-0. Lost against Brookville in the D3 semis. 2000 10-0. Lost against Rustburg in the D3 semis. I believe Jones began coaching Gate City as a DC in 2001. It’s not like Gate City was a shitty team prior to Jones as a DC. I am certain his touch helped Gate City. Powell Valley had graduated a slew of talent. Going against JJ Kelly in 1999, PV had gone in thinking they would have the game won by halftime and got upset. Then lost a close one against Gate City a week later. Almost dropped one against Coeburn and spanked Appalachia. Then they lost first round against Clintwood. PV wasn’t bad in 2000. Nobody west of Roanoke was beating Honaker. Heath Miller.
