I think 6 is the magic number. It’s not perfect but in most years it’ll make sure all the good teams get in. I remember in Rick Mullins first year at Clintwood missing the playoffs a with an 8-2 record. The bad part about that was Rye Cove got in with a worse record because they won the Cumberland. That was when the way class 1 &2 were split was a joke.
And to clarify, I am referring to scholarships. Something they are very stingy with up there even though they are a public university. The only one in the conference they are in.
Fully agree. I enjoy homer high school broadcasts. It should be that way. It’s high school and the broadcasts are meant for that small high school community.
But dammit, you should know the players and coaches names and how to pronounce them.
I was mostly referring to the complaining about holding. Being homers is fine.
I’m starting to feel sorry for Ridgeview. Frustration is showing! Tazewell better not get drawn in like last year. They need all hands on deck against Union.
After the Union game it’s been straight off the cliff. I can see the frustration. You go green m thinking you had a real shot against Union to being blown out in your last 3 games.
You would do it for the same reason that you go shotgun 2 or 3 times from the 1 yds line. Tazewell got away with it at the goal line, but just crazy to me.
Good point. Tazewell has probably got the better team, but they are keeping RV in the game.
I know Ridgeview has a lot of injuries but I think they keep it close and if O’Quinn plays they could pull out the win. Don’t think it’ll be a blowout like some are thinking
Last week was a close game against GC till the 4th. Injuries have killed this teams potential but that’s part of it.
Still the best 2 teams in the region will meet in Bullitt park in 2 weeks.
One aspect I've always liked about the Big Stone Gap youth program is its only 8 weeks, including (I think) 2 weeks of practice. 6 games total. So full contact is introduced at a early age but overall exposure is fairly limited.
I know some youth teams travel and play a lot of "games". Not throwing off on the program or tournament but I know teams that have played well over 20 games including tournaments like the Big Blue Bash at Richlands.
I think a lot of the places around here should go in house and do 8 man football. I know RV could have had 3 or 4 teams of around 15 kids each on the teams. Play 4 to 6 games and teach the basics.
