    Biggest Losers:

    1) West Roanoke Banny Roosters

    2) Abington Blue Buzzards

    3) George Wythe Maroon Macaroons

    4) Giles Chicken Wangs

    5) John Battle Chariot Riders

This is inexcusable for the admin to drop the ball this way! These kids deserve better!! Two whole years and everyone filled their schedule but GW! Should be ashamed!!

Uncle Percy was wondering if you’ve ever had any dealings with GW when it comes to scheduling?  They could have had another game last year, but they would not travel. They wanted this team to travel to GW which would have given them 6 home/3 away and no return game.

  3. Uncle Percy says, You Mamby Pamby Millennials and Generation Zers don’t know this because you were still playing in the sand box and some of you were still wearing Pampers, but Tennessee High got their fill of Va Football during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. They scheduled home-away games with Gate City, Graham and Grundy. They went 1-5. Barely beat a Rebuilding 2000 Graham team (5-5) or could have been 0-6. Tennessee High doesn’t want to play any Va schools unless they from around Bristol. And They definitely don’t want “The Flattails”.

Tug Valley, Wv, *The mighty Hatifields" even thought that's not there nickname, it should be, doesn't have 5 out of state teams on the schedule like Hurley, but they do play 4 states.  They play a team from Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio, and 7 from their home state of WV this coming year.  And.....that one team from Virginia they play is Hurley.  In 2021, Linsly, WV, played 7 schools from Ohio, 2 from PA, and only 1 school from West Virginia which was Fairmont Senior.  Linsly finished 5-5, and one of their 5 wins was over Fairmont Senior who won the West Virginia AA State Title.

Martinsburg, WV, is another that plays a big out of state schedule.  In 2018 and 2019, they played 2 from Virginia, 2 from PA, and 1 from DC for 5 of their 10 regular season game on both years, and of course, they ran the table on all of them, including the teams they played in WV in a bad way.

I bet the Boys down at Naugatuck was get a real “kick” out of a comedian like you. What do you think Mr. G-Man?

Bland refused to schedule Galax for the two-year cycle that ends this season prior to last season. Galax was able to schedule a home-and-home with West Stokes as a result. Galax has a full slate of games for the upcoming season. At least until Auburn cancels half their season.

What’s the rest of the story about Bland and the rest of the Mountain Empire?

Gfan, everything you wrote sounds spot on to me regarding my limited times watching Graham last season, but I will write this...and I wrote about it every time I watched Graham last year regarding how solid Graham looked, but with one concern and that is.......Graham needs to design some shallow crosses.  In order for the Meadows kid to work the middle of the field more than the QB you all had last year, Graham's offense needs to send a WR or RB 5-7 yds off the ball across the middle of field on a pass route.  Graham is very solid and has been solid for many years under Palmer who's work as Head Coach needs no debating.  He's solid as is their coaching staff, but the only thing (literally only 1 thing) that has perplexed me in watching you guys is very few to sometimes none (not 1 the whole game) short passing routes in the middle of the field.

It could very well be preference on purpose, as many coaches in High School are not big fans of middle of the field stuff because of the turnover risk and when you have the athletes to simply run 3 or 4 flag routes and still complete a pass for a long gain or touchdown, but it can be a big plus against athletic teams.  Just my opinion.  With all the above written, common sense also tells me we are talking about a team that has made deep runs in the playoffs and playing for state titles, so very, very, very little critique needs given.  I'm just doing it because I like talking about football and love the discussion.  For the 1 concern I listed above, I could list 10 other overwhelmingly positives that most other teams wished they had.

    FCS is D1.

Was typing the same thing when you posted that.  Div 1 Football, Officially according to the NCAA is FBS and FCS as categories of D1 football, at least, that's just what I read on the NCAA website.  I also just read the Lehigh has been playing football since the late 1800's, and ranks 40th of all Div 1 teams regarding total wins. I didn't expect that.

FCS started in 1978. Originally referred to as D1-AA, the bigger schools D1-A. There are several differences between FBS and FCS.  FBS gets 85 football scholarships. FCS only gets 63 football scholarships. FBS schools must offer at least 16 sports for men and women, FCS only 14. FBS must play at least 5 home games a year against FBS schools, no such requirement for FCS. FBS has an attendance requirement, FCS doesn’t.  FBS has a Higher scheduling requirements, FCS schedule requirements are lower allowing them to schedule D2 and D3 teams. There are also differences in financial aid requirements. NCAA requires that if you want to play D1 Basketball, then your football team must participate as a FCS football school. Better money in Basketball for a lot of these schools than football.  Can’t hardly wait for that Georgia - St. Peter’s football game. You boys can call it D1 Football if want, but remember this, a jackass is a member of the Equine Family but there has never been a jackass to win the Kentucky Derby.

  8. If they’re thinking about leaving the Mt. Empire, then they really have only one choice.  Hogoheegee competition, might as well stay in The Mt. Empire.  Pioneer, competition, maybe a notch lower overall but long road trips.  The Black Diamond, Hurley would be longest road trip, could probably compete with Hurley, Council, and Twin Valley in most sports.

My quote was "back to over 30 years ago"  But, if you feel Owens was as good or better than Compton or Meadows, that's cool too.  Owens was one heck of a player and I loved watching him at Tech.  People can see things different ways.

I didn’t say that. Compton is one of the best to ever come out of SWVA. I’ve seen a lot of good players in SWVA over the past 50 plus years. Yogi Mooney of Clintwood was one of the best linemen ever. Saw him play in 75 and 76. Went to N.C. State, knee injury cut his career short.

Don't want to split hairs, but Mike Compton was a Super Prep All American out of High School and a Consensus First Team All-American at WVU and a finalist for the Lombardi Award, played 12 seasons in the NFL and has 2 superbowl rings.  I know Luke Owens was awesome, but that's some serious accolades for Compton.

You were talking about the last 30 years.

Grundy's Luke Owens, current Central coach, signed as an OL with the Hokies in '98.  He did see time in the '99 NC game and was a starter for two seasons. I think he'd compare favorably to Meadows.

Thank you Cousin Liam, Uncle Percy said to make you a Cousin. You’re one of his favorite posters.

Where did they play their college ball?

Well the ornerier smaller one, according to D1 standards, started out in D2 in PA, but later transferred back home to plays with his buddies at Emory.  The other one used to block for a QB called Michael Vick. He even played in a National Championship Game against Florida State.

Graham too physical for Appo. Vicious licks by the defense. Brody Meadows played pinball with Appo. A game of whack a mole for Meadows. Best lineman to come out of the western part of Virginia going back to over 30 years ago with former WVU All American and Richlands/Detroit Lions Mike Compton. Graham, barring injury, has two kids on the roster that will play Sunday football in about 48 months from now.

Wrong, Grundy had 2 all-state linemen in the 90s that were just as good if not better.

It's very close to Bristol. When I go to Abingdon from Big Stone, we go towards Norton, thru Coeburn, St. Paul, Castlewood and then you get to where you go left if you're going to Lebanon or go right to go towards Abingdon. From there, straight shot into backside of Abingdon.

It's a good sized city. John Battle is very close, Holston is in the area, PH GS, then a little further and you get to Marion and Chilhowie. The 2019 census has Abingdon at around 8K people, compared to around 5K for BSG, and it's like I said right beside Bristol so it's a much bigger, more populated area than far far SWVA like Lee High or TW or even Union.

BigWinners, are you familiar with the saying, “as bright as a burnt out lightbulb”???  Guess what?  Hokiebird 7 is.  Good one Hokiebird.
