Not sure about 1D but 2D I would go.....

    Mountain 7

    1. Union

    2. Abingdon (3D)

    3. Ridgeview

    4. Gate City

    5. Central

    6. John Battle

    7. Lee

    1. Union - The defending state champs and loaded even with losing the Cusano kid. Not a lot else really needs to be said.  Only have to look at Coach Moore’s schedule to see what he thinks about his team. A date in the Arby’s Classic says enough.

what happened to the cusano kid? He was a huge part of Union’s success

Mountain 7 is based off powerpoints, just call and ask the AD at Gate City who is losing his mind right about now

Either way Lee or Gate City is getting smashed by Graham in the first round. Gotta feel bad for the seniors who lose a chance on playing another game for GC, but happy for the seniors at Lee who get to play an extra one.

Just my take, could be wrong, but yea, VH has some talent, but they have HAD talent in the past and still not won.  I believe VH is MORE than just talented upperclassmen.  They are very, very well coached and I don't see the drop off.  Next year, would bet a bunch, no worse than 7-3.  The guy they have now won at Holston, and he's winning at Va High.  Va High has had many, far more talented teams in their history than this one, and they didn't win.  I'm telling ya, as long as VH keeps their coach, they aren't going anywhere.  Actually, they are going to get better.

Maybe “drop off” was the wrong choice of words because I was also thinking 7-3/6-4 over the next couple years. Not saying Patterson is a bad coach by any means but Holston is winning like they were last year so you could crack that up to their talent as well.  How much better they get depends on who they schedule, if they play and win against some top M7 teams in the regular season and if they can keep it within 2-3TDs against Graham next year then they are on their way up.

  4. With the talent at VA High you would expect them to have the kind of season they have had even without their cupcake schedule and new coach, but the biggest competition they have had all year beat the brakes off of them (Graham). Lee on the other hand is extremely young and has nowhere near the caliber of athletes that VA, Graham, Union and the rest of the M7 has but were still able to string together 4 convincing wins against a TOUGH (for lee high) schedule, albeit against lackluster teams. They would not have won those games with the coach they had last year, trust me. Lee’s turnaround is more significant based on their history with bad coaching and county politics and it is because Carroll came in and positively changed the culture of the program, all the way down to the pee wee league. I know this doesn’t play a factor in this year’s choice for coach of the year but just watch and see next year when Lee continues to improve while VA High drastically drops off when they lose their loaded senior class.

  5. Not the most exciting game this week but hey it’s football i can’t complain. I don’t know much about Battle besides their record which speaks for itself. i think Lee wins big but they’ll give up a couple scores with that lackluster defense. Thoughts on this one?

Yeah I think everyone thinking Lee was improving might've had something to do with the opponents

Offensively they are certainly improving. The last 2 years they haven’t been able to muster 20yds of offense against the worst teams they played. Now they can at least drive the football down the field and score a couple times a game. They got all the way down inside the Central 2yd line on the first drive of the game but came up short. On defense they have a looooooong way to go. The D-line is solid, but the linebackers are young and inexperienced and the DBs do NOT like contact. Once Lee buys in on defense over the next few years they’re gonna be competitive at the top of the M7.

  7. I’m sure this will take some crazy calculating but say that Lee and Gate City both miraculously win out and both end up 6-4. Gate City beating Battle, Central and Ridgeview. Lee beating Central Battle and Abingdon. What do the playoffs look like?

  8. Warriors are riding high after stifling Union. I say they ride that momentum into this game and score a lot, in very little time. They’ll be up big at halftime and put the reserves in for some experience. I think the Generals can score a fair bit against the younger group so the final score may be deceiving. Warriors win 48-21

48-12 GC. Lee's only AA victory might come against Battle. Big Blue will win big.

No shot that gate city’s defense is that solid. Lee scores a minimum of 28 imo. Gate city may very well put up 70 points if they run to the outside every play. Lee’s outside containment and tackling in the secondary has been atrocious this season

I think they play even up with Gate City and stand a reasonable chance to win the game.

I agree. Defense is an issue on both teams. It’ll be a shootout but whoever comes up with those key defense and special teams plays wins the game. Jenkins is capable of running plenty of kicks back. Lee seems to be more versatile on offense. Gonna be a good one Saturday
