  1. The three names I have heard are Amburgey, Ricker, or Hall. Was then told potentially to make a push for Ricker as HC Hall as OC. (Precursor) I don’t know if either of the three would be interested nor if this is even factual My question is.. is it too late to call Luke or BI back?

Rye Cove is young, but numbers should be better and new staff that has some big names

Twin Springs lost two stud playmakers in Elliot and McCoy, along with best offensive and defensive linemen, but bring back a ton of talent on both sides including a 1500 yard rusher and quarterback. Good group of coaches, so they should be good again

Eastside lost 95% of their offense, the majority of line and best linebacker, so unless they are hiding kids that no one knows about, those kids aren't going to easily be replaced. Again, good coaching should help them scheme some young kids into the right place.

Thomas Walker lost Kidwell, who was the best playmaker on offense, but other than that bring back a lot just have to have someone step up

JI Burton will always be Burton and have a talented group, just have to navigate through early schedule and young kids

Castlewood loses best player, coach, and wasn't very good. The good news is they didn't have a JV, middle school, or little league so that is fun.

Gonna be wide open as to who wins it

So you are essentially saying the Cumberland is going to be even worse then it was last year with the exception of Burton?

not today i dont think so,  with the direction programs are going nobody wants to put the effort in to try and build something back to the glory days,

The schools administrations are often times not committed to a coach in order to allow them to build something special. I do not necessarily think the amount of openings this year were at the fault of all the coaches who departed.

I agree that schools need to do a better job of keeping coaches around. it would suck to have 3 coaches in 4 years that is just not good for the kids or the program as a whole. I am also afraid that the era of coaches like Coach Hubbard staying some where for 30+ years may be over. It seems like every year there are 5 to 8 head coaching jobs come open. Who is the longest tenured coach in the area right now? I guess it would be Palmer at Graham in the southwest with 7 years. Im not sure about the mountain 7 or the 1A schools but lee, battle, GC, wise, and RV have all come open in the last 4 years.

I definitely agree with you in this regard. Turner is the only coach still at the helm from the initial Wise Co. consolidation in 2011.

IMO its not a good look to up and move just because you dont like the coaching staff. I know its been done in this area and the transfer portal at the college has absolutely ruined any loyalty that kids have to a program. I really hope this doesnt happened because I can see it becoming the norm and it is very annoying.

In most instances I would agree with you, but in this instance Ridgeview has had two successful coaches leave the program on their own accord. At what point does the school owe some loyalty to the kids in making the correct hire and doing what they need to do in order to keep these coaches who are having success instead of what appears to be running them off.

When will this job be filled? Closing in on march with no coach. Any word of who or when interviewing will happen?

Anxiously awaiting myself. I have heard interviews are this week and next week, but the cupboard is bare.

I am looking forward to seeing what they do on Offense under him. They looked like a youth team with some of the stuff they were trying to do on Offense last year. Football in this area is better when Marion is competitive.

Jack started the program at North Carolina Wesleyan and had them in the Division III playoffs within five seasons (where they became the first #8 seed to knock off a #1) and he maintained some pretty impressive recruiting contacts throughout his extensive collegiate coaching career.

I'm all kinds of biased because the Ginns have been longtime friends of my family, but he is a first rate individual who should have a tremendously positive impact on Marion's program.

Am I the only one wondering why a guy with his resume would want to live and coach in Marion?

You're damn right. If I wasn't so dang busy with my very attractive girlfriend, my other very attractive girlfriend and my extremely successful business, I'd take the Lebanon job and knock off Riverheads.

That would be Russell county. Maybe Northwood. But there’s no attractive girls down that way 😂

Follow your words with, "in your opinion." And P.S. I equally don't care about your smart as" take about how much he knows about football. If you "don't care," about how much I think he knows about football, then don't post.

Watch your mouth when speaking to the president of the Greg Tester fan club.

Good for him.  I'm happy to see anyone from our area get to the next level. Congrats to him for signing.

Happy for him as well, not many get the opportunity to play at the next level regardless of where it is at.

I think he should have kept it after the first year. He was from Wise and coached at pound.... he would have been a good liason between the 2 communities.... they would have averted the Reed years.... would have been more continuity.  So yeah I think he's the most obvious hire.  The sticky part is that his brother in law is McAmis... the Assistant Principal.

Based on who I heard had interviewed.... he was the most qualified candidate.

I think I have to agree with you. I initially thought Rhodes would be a good fit, but his struggle to retain coaches from year to year and lack of winning is concerning. I spoke with a guy in C-wood at the dealership the other day whose son played at ES and he said they have had a different guy calling the offense every year because Rhodes either fires them or they want to go elsewhere. Luke's success seemed to have happened because he was able to keep that core group of coaches and people together. Mullins knows the environment at Central, knows the kids, and has been around long enough to prove he knows what he is doing.

I think Jason would be a great hire because the kids already know him.  With his son graduating this year, do you think that will keep him from taking the job?

Jason would be a good hire and he is familiar with the program obviously. For this to be a top tier job it does not seem that many people are going after it real hard. It seems basically Mullins and Rhodes at this point?

Burton is an interesting mention.  They had a disappointing year and graduate quite a few key players I thought off of this years team.  Maybe I am mistaken.  I know Buchannon and Johnny Williams graduate most notably.

Burton graduates most of the talent off of a team that won 1 game. Accompanying this with a pretty brutal out of conference schedule and a strong chance of starting 0-5 they may be in trouble.

Rhodes- possible has done well at Eastside not much of a move for him travel wise

    Hamilton please stop

    Bostic- waiting for his chance

Edwards- proven at Union but those fans seem a little disgruntled

Tester- Great coach well respected but would have to move may not want to.

I had to go back and look but ES won the Cumberland the year before Rhodes got there and they are 17-21 since, but HC experience is valuable, which Tester has as well. Edwards may be a good fit and the animosity towards him at the end of the year could sway that. Can’t really see Bostic going anywhere as he coaches GBB and I believe his son is coming up through middle school now. It’s going to be interesting for sure.

Marion returns every skill position on offense that started the last 2 games of the season and only has to replace 2 lineman. They did lose 2 pretty good D line man and a run stopping safety on defense but they had a freshman class of 20 last year. If they hire the right head coach they should be improved for sure.

I’m curious on who the right coach for them would be? Because they are going to walk into a tough situation whoever it may be, and the SWD isn’t exactly a cake walk. Marion could improve as a team and still lose the same amount of games for the next few years.
