  1. Jesus Harold Christ...here...you even liked it lol. and here is a direct link: http://www.swvasports.com/ipb/index.php?/topic/32975-virginia-high-richlands-ii/page-6#entry306818
  2. That's my fault. I have since learned to appreciate you. lol.
  3. Man i got a lot of miles out of that last post,..lol. jblank, i'm sorry you don't seem to understand where the ref. to Grundy was in this post...I've already pointed it out to you a few times...I can lead the jackass to water, but can't make it drink. You guys are just wanting respect, I understand...nothing wrong with that at all. A good place to start looking for it though would have been all those years you were in a weak 3 team district, weakest in the state as far as that goes, and still couldn't dominate? Basically all you had to do was beat Abingdon every year to all but get in the playoffs and still couldn't pull it off. Maybe venture over to the visitors side sometime behind the stands and see whats going on, i doubt you will see much from the home side...easy to see why you wouldn't notice anything from over there. I haven't seen much out of adults really, but a lot of student problems over the years...and that's just being honest, not trying to get your goat with that or anything...just the truth...and maybe it's just a few select bad apples here and there, but like i said it's every trip something happens...never fails. Sorry if you don't believe it. The Hurley basketball game was just pathetic..you guys got ahead for a few min and totally just showed your ass because you thought you had the game won, then ended up losing anyway and then really showed your asses....can't win with class, can't lose with it either.
  4. post quota? where do you guys come up with this stuff? lol...Richlands fan site and post quotas...interesting. The rest of what you said here just supports my views...so thanks for that. I'm tired of trying to point out simple stuff you can read for yourself, yet can't seem to comprehend...your buddy jblank said "None of us mentioned Grundy, not one time, but yes, he completely misunderstood the point that Bob and I were making. Not surprising though." obviously, you were referring to Grundy in your post that I cited above, so...that's where that came from. As far as "don't come back" goes...trust me I don't go there unless I have to.
  5. No..he mentioned that was a can of worms I shouldn't open, so I said go ahead and air it out? What's there to not understand. Then there was talk of Appy and GC...like it somehow justifies VHS in the way they behave since it happened to them at some other school. I didn't say it, they said it...I just asked if that was the point they were really trying to make...if so, that's bogus. You keep talking about "elsewhere" I keep talking about VHS. I mentioned the Richlands fan site because, hey...that's what you called it and I hadn't been on since to respond to it. There is no doubt what I said is true...you can think whatever you want, it happened. My point in all of this is, every single time I have any sort of interaction with VHS, it's always something...not just with Grundy either..I've been there for basketball games, football games, baseball...track...different stuff over the years and every single time there is some sort of jackassery on display. You guys should be politicians...you have the "forked tongue double speak" stuff down...say it, then say you didn't say it...lol. "I would be careful about casting those stones...I can give you a whole bunch of first hand experience about "chants" from your fans that are a whole helluva lot worse than "USA". And they came from grown men and fans and students. I'd think twice about opening that can or worms on here. "
  6. go ahead and air it out? lol Like i said that's just my last visit, time before that it was at a football scrimmage and there were kids from VHS over on the visitors side yelling a bunch of stuff and fighting ...cops finally came over and broke it all up. It's always something. And whatever you guys are going on about GC and Appy, I am not sure exactly what that has to do with anything, but it doesn't justify the way you act? or was that not the point you were making? As far as this being a Richlands fan site...I've heard it called a lot of things over the past 10+ years but that isn't one of them lol...congrats on coming up with that one. I still stand by what I said, just based on my personal experiences with VHS over the past 30 years or so. Others might have a completely different experience or opinion, and that's ok.
  7. i was way over due for an oil change once in my full size blazer and ran it through the walmart ...the next time i went to change it myself, which is what i usually do...and i couldn't get the oil filter off. It was like someone put it on there with an impact wrench. I called walmart and they actually sent someone to my house to remove it with some sort of tool...they ended up cutting it off...luckily the purple mark they put on the filter when they changed it was still intact and they looked at it and said "yep, that's our work" and acted like it happens all the time. I never went back....never will.
  8. Winning alone won't get you respect either, people might not want to play you at some point because they don't think they can beat you, doesn't mean they respect you. Of course, I base all of this on just my personal experiences with Va High over the years...to me they have never had an ounce of class. Last time I was there, the student section behind the Hurley bench (basketball game) was taunting Coach Cooper to the point of trying to pick a fight and shouting "USA" whenever Dustin Waynick got the ball because they assumed he was some sort of foreigner, which he's not? I mean WTF? Who does that? That's just the last example, every time I've been around or involved with anything at Va High it's been something along those lines...I'm sure not "everyone" can be grouped in to one pile obviously, but sure seems like a lot of problems at VHS.
  9. sorry i'm late to respond. Just seems to me you guys don't know how to win without the chest thumping...overall your program has been way down for many years, which, trust me I know the feeling...but once you finally win a playoff game you just don't know how to act. In contrast to teams like Honaker and Clintwood or Richlands who have been winning for years and you just don't see them doing it. Don't be so hungry for respect to be given, just earn it.
  10. i try not to hate Va High...but, damn it's just hard not to.
  11. Lance

    Graham?

forget everything you know about districts, the VHSL has destroyed them.
  12. I don't know if there is a rule against putting someone elses name on the back of a jersey or not, but I kinda think it would be cool to do that and have someone wear it only for homecoming each year, they could do some sort of ceremony to go along with that. Would be a good thing for the team and TJ's memory. Good kid, I still think about him all the time.
  13. pretty cool...they should have let the kid play a down or score or something...I'm sure Tazewell would have gone along with it.
  14. even 7 on 7 would help. I don't think we do that in the off season either.
  15. My opinion...for Grundy to improve long term, and this is just my 2 cents...5 things that would really help: -kicker training. Doug Blevins has a kicking camp and is considered one of if not THE best kicking instructors in the world...and he is right in our back yard and willing to help kids learn. I would be sending some of those 9th graders that will otherwise be standing on the sidelines doing nothing for years to come to learn how to kick and also long snap. Every year there should be at least 2 of the 9th graders trained and whoever was sent previously continued training. With work these kids who would otherwise never see the field would become assets to your team. We had to go for 2 every time this year because we really just can't kick an extra point. Last year we had the Mutter kid kicking (self trained with Blevins) and he was all state and we were a threat to score anytime we got near the 30 yard line. I can point to examples where that kid turned a game around and pretty much won the game or allowed Grundy to be in a position to win the game just with his leg. -weight lifting - essential year round. We had all the football players lifting weights in 7th period gym year round. You can't wait until august to start lifting and expect any results. You get your linemen and you tell them in no uncertain terms that you don't lift then you don't play...I don't care who it is, no lift then no play. Lots of improvements could be made here, starts with the kids getting in there and putting in the time. -speed and resistance training - right now it simply doesn't exist...and it needs to. - schedule - Look, I like playing the old SWD teams as much as anyone...but getting beat 60-0 is not putting more kids in the program. Short term I think you have to look at who you can beat and schedule the easy game, get your 10 wins and go 1 and out in the playoffs if you have to. I hate it's like that but I think if the kids know they are going to win some games I think more would stick with it and want to play...over time you could increase the level of competition once you get your program on more solid ground. For now, take the wins and get more kids involved. Strength in numbers. I'm not saying play a bunch of 1 win teams, but find some people you can at least compete with. - focus on getting the lower level kids out and actually playing and learning the game...tradition and work ethic starts young.
  16. They have about 30 kids total playing right now from what I understand. yep...that's what I'm saying...couple of injuries and 5 or 6 people out with the flu and you find yourself short dicked!
  17. Maybe not...done and over with now though and the variables don't really count for much outside of when you actually play the game...it is what it is.
  18. Grundy had a killer D in 2004, they were loaded. Va High didn't even make it across the 50 in that last game until they were given the ball in OT. I don't know if Grundy could have come close to beating Gretna or not, but I sure would have like to have had a shot at it. As for the 02 team, slow? Garon Marcum blew by Bradshaw enroute to a 96 yard TD in that game...I don't know why you would think they had no speed, that was one of, if not the fastest teams Grundy has ever had on the field. As for the playoff game vs. the regular season game that year, you played two different teams really, everyone was back for the playoff game, although they lost 3 starters during the playoff game to injury, which sucked...would have been nice to have played Bedford with a full load and everyone healthy...I don't know if I'd say it was Bedford's by default that year,..didn't Graham beat them? To me, with everyone healthy that year Graham, Grundy, and Bedford all had state quality teams...any of them could have won it that year of the 3...Bedford obviously had the talent and kept everyone healthy. If you didn't like the field at Mitchell, you sure wouldn't have liked it at Bedford that next week...it was way colder and the field was covered in snow before the game...they scraped it and made a muddy mess of it which half way froze as the game went on...ended up a muddy sheet of ice by the time it was over with. It's hard to blame the weather and the field though when both teams play on the same surface...Grundy just played a perfect game that day and Graham turned the ball over...that first INT pick 6 by Marcum put Grundy on the board first and got them fired up...like it or not they just out played Graham that day...happens to everyone at some point. ...it's not like you had two TD's called back after the ball was 20 yards up the field then lost 6-0 in OT....but, that's another story lol. You have made some good points here though UVAO, I agree with a lot of what you have said. When there were 8 or 10 elementary schools and they each had teams that played all the other teams in the county a couple of times a year, you had 8 or 10 teams that all had starters who got a lot of playing time to pick from at the high school level...kids that had grown up playing the game and understood it and had a ton of playing time....once those closed you had 1 team with 1 group of starters and the rest were back ups...and most of the time the starters that wrestled didn't play football in high school...so...you do the math there on that one. Once the feeder schools closed, the talent level dropped.
  19. You can't blame the 02 Region IV game Grundy won on the weather/field...it was played at Graham and the field was pretty much frozen solid. Yeah it was cold, but Grundy had a legit team that year and just beat Graham straight up...if not for injuries and flu (not making excuses either, it's just what actually happened) they probably would have given Liberty Bedford a better game, still might not have beat them but they would have at least had a better showing like they did against Graham. Seems like every time Grundy has a legit shot at state friggin' disaster strikes...someone gets killed, flu, or screwed on a horrible call (happened twice)...it is what it is though. The last "good" team that Grundy had was 2004...since then it's been pretty rough...mostly due to all of the feeder schools closing....it's no coincidence that the '04 team was the last of the Vansant Elem. kids (and other feeder schools). I still say things could be better and more teams around here could compete on a state level, even with lower numbers, but you have to have the same types of resources, focus, and dedication that the other side of the state has....and we don't even come close...speed schools...etc...this entire area is lacking to say the least. Yeah we have a good team every now and then, and someone local will win state every so often...but across the board year in and year out the overall quality of the teams we are now producing is inferior.
  20. Eh you know...Grundy tries....most of the time anyway. God bless 'em.
  21. hell...i was going to say this...but, couldn't say it any better. You want to win you have to "learn" speed and put in the work...no one around here wants to do it anymore. Most of these modern day "powerhouses" couldn't stay within 30 points of some of the old 2-8 or worse teams from 30 years ago...and that's a fact.
  22. They should just move this game over to UVA Wise...lol
  23. Grundy didn't give Honaker the same scare they gave Haysi, because they turned the ball over, but they played them pretty tough for the most part the entire game instead of just the first half...they were able to hold Honaker several times on 3rd down, which I was honestly surprised as Grundy had one of it's best hitters on defense out....i guess for Honaker folks that have not seen Grundy play every game this year like I have it might have just looked like a regular 47-6 win but for me there were some small victories there for the Grundy kids at times compared to previous efforts. Just from seeing both play I think the advantage goes to Haysi on the run game and Honaker has the better QB advantage...the O line and defense seem to be about the same to me....will be interesting to see how it plays out. I just hope the refs are not a factor. I will say I was also impressed with the way the Honaker kids handled themselves last night, from what I saw it was nothing but a class act.
  24. Honaker's QB is outstanding...loved watching that kid play tonight. Good team, I like Haysi though in a close one since they have home field.
