Graham only had three individuals in the field. Richlands and Tazewell represented the SWD as teams. It was only a one-day event.
Magna Vista won, shooting 294, with Bassett second at 301. Jeral Whitting of Magna Vista was medalist with a 68 that included a quadruple bogey 8 on the par 4, 6th hole.
Tazewell and Richlands, as teams, did not do so well.
Garland Green of Tazewell qualified for State shooting even par 70 and Taylor Lindsey of Richlands shot 72 to qualify for State. John David Hunter of Graham also qualified as an individual, shooting 75. Other individual qualifiers included Nick Viers of Abingdon with 73, Marshall Wade of Carroll Co. and Daniel Triplett of Virginia, who both shot 74.
State Tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Fincastle...I would have to say Magna Vista is the favorite to win it all.

Bluefield 35 Graham 27
Richlands 24 Tazewell 0
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, you've got one right and one wrong here. Richlands is a good pick at -24 in Tazewell. But, Graham is not playing with the full complement of players that defeated Beaver in the first meeting. I would not be suprised to see the ole "ten man line" employed against Graham's limited offense capabilities. Bluefield's got most of their starters back for this one and I would have to go Bluefield -12. Graham's offense without Workman looks radically different than with Workman and one touchdown per half is going to be about it. If Bluefield breaks some big plays the game, espically early, the contest maybe out of reach for Graham's dimished offense.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bluefield's D will still give up points...they gave up 20 to Oak Hill last week who had only scored 22 total in their previous three games. Turnovers and poor tackling can't shutdown an opponent...

The dude with the #7 jersey sat in front of me the last couple of seasons...true, he isn't/wasn't the "best" fan in the world and most definitely his actions were alcohol induced as he had always had a little too much "tailgating" before the game. He was definitely in the minority in our section as being a "bad fan" though.
However, if I remember the "bottle throwing" incident correctly...WVU's fans were the one's who threw bottles first at the end of the game. And Tech fans wrongly returned fire in retalitation. Trust me, they were called out by Jim Weaver and Frank Beamer on Hokie Hotline the next Monday...never heard Rich Rod do anything like that when the WVU faithful get ugly...and several fans were escorted off of Worsham Field by police for their actions...never saw that happen at Mountaineer Field either.
-
Take a look back at last season...
There were as many, or more, "Bluefield" threads on this message board...every dog has his day, let Richlands have theirs...
-
Upon further review of the VHSL website, they were moved to Division 1. Boy does that open a can of worms!!! Now schools can B&M about which Division they are in and get switched at the drop of a hat (or vote). This ruling is really going to stir up stuff but nobody ever accused the VHSL of doing anything smart...

sorry, no matter the rep WVU has, i could not under ANY circumstance support or 'pull' for VT.. i was at the infamous trash can game against Miami/WVU several yrs back and the fans were upset but had the players form UM not taunted the student section then i dont feel like any of that mess wouldve occured...the ACC has its thug teams too..such as UM, theyve been in the scrap pile as a team more than anyone else i can remember
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sure the fans weren't taunting and cussing the Miami team. Yeh right...get real, buddy!!! WVU is the worst place for any team to have to play period or for any fans to have to go to!!!
Every now and then you will here about some incident at some random school around the country between fans, players, coaches, etc..., but it seems like EVERY team that goes to WVU comes out with horror stories of how fans, players, and coaches were treated. I've been there, I've witnessed it, I've been a victim of it. What some of the Mountaineer fans do at games would be cause for arrest at just about any stadium in the US, but the "officials" of the school just blow it off, the security personnel at the game just blow it off, the A$$WIPE that runs their Rivals.com site allows their hostility to propogate and grow and often encourages it.
And WVU "fans" wonder why they are stuck in the Lil East...hell, they should be glad they are in the Lil East because they wouldn't be able to get away with the things they do in any other LEGITIMATE Conference.
