  1. The weather will play a huge factor in the size of the crowd tomorrow night...
  2. We're tired of the all the talk here in Bluefield, we're just ready to strap it on and kick the ball off...
  3. Three of the four teams (Magna Vista, Graham, and Radford) involved have made the state semi-finals in their respective class and division. I'm sure all three benefited from scrimmaging such high caliber teams...
  4. Gate City is overdue in a state semi-final game and I think they get it done in a dogfight with Radford...
  5. I'm disappointed that the Hokies didn't make a harder push for Bradshaw. He could have worked himself into the secondary b/c outside of Hall the Hokies are seriously hurting there...
  6. Don't forget to take your bullet-proof vest, you don't want to end up like those two people from last weekend. I'm sure that was a scary scene...
  7. He has coached the Bluefield girls' team the past couple of seasons, but I'm not sure about coaching experience he's had prior to that. If the name sounds familiar his son, Tyrone, starred at Princeton on the gridiron a couple of years ago and is now starting in the secondary for the Pitt Panthers.
  8. It's extremely hard to win in the playoffs with an offense that cannot pass the football somewhat and Bridgeport found that out Saturday. Bport doesn't see teams up north with much speed, which is why they're able to do so well running the football against their schedule...
  9. I’ll start by saying that the Weir High School Red Riders have one helluva a football team. They never quit, play with heart, and are very talented. The only team Bluefield has played this season that might be better would be Graham. I know the loss was especially hard on those kids just as it would have been Bluefield if they had lost. Many of their players dropped where they stood when Beaver recovered the fumble and lay on the field for many minutes out of sheer exhaustion and disappointment. Weir has an outstanding team, outstanding fans that traveled a long ways to be there Saturday, and have absolutely nothing to be ashamed. The Weir coaching staff called a beautiful game and took advantage of their height advantage with #5. They gave Bluefield everything they wanted and then some. I honestly felt Bluefield was going to lose this game in the second half. I hope Weir had a safe return to Weirton and best of luck in the future. This was truly one of the greatest playoff games in the history of WV and I’m glad I could be there to witness it regardless of how gut wrenching the second half was. This game will be talked about a long-time in the Bluefields and it should be. My hat off to Weir on an outstanding game. Bluefield played with the heart of a champion down the stretch, making the plays when all seemed lost. The Chris Martin interception in the endzone in the fourth to halt what looked like the Weir go-ahead score as he out leaped a kid that had four inches on him to steal the ball away and stay in bounds. David Perdue’s miracle fourth down touchdown catch in OT, in which he caught, was seemed like an uncatchable ball, with one hand and stayed in bounds. The defense stepping up to shut down Weir four straight possessions deep in Bluefield territory late in the 4th and force OT. I honestly believe Bluefield had a little help from above from some of those people this town has lost in recent months that meant so much to so many. Weir seemed to control the game in the second half and things didn't look good for Bluefield it seemed. The Beavers showed a lot of character and heart to keep fighting and get the win. Bluefield is marching into the semi-finals and it feels dang good; they EARNED it Saturday. I'll also mention that sportsmanship showed following the game was outstanding. Those two teams fought as hard as any two teams could for four quarter and two overtimes, but yet when it was over shook hands and wished one another well. I saw Weir coaches going up to individual Bluefield players shaking their hands, talking to them, and I saw even a couple of hugs exchanged. Many of the Bluefield players went over to the Weir players that collapsed, heartbroken in the endzone after the game ended, patted them on the back, and wished them well. It was a tough game to lose and Weir showed a lot of class after losing. It's what high school football should be all about and it's ashame we don't see that type of sportsmanship and class more often.
  10. There is no need to apologize as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure whatever happened was totally out of your control. Technology is a great thing until it goes bad and then it becomes one huge headache...
  11. The area has always been a hotbed for high school football and this is just more evidence to support that case. Mount View took down two of the north's biggest guns in Tyler and Bridgeport. Although, Bport is overhyped yearly thanks to that soft schedule they play...
  12. Rain is in the forecast, who are they getting weather coverage from? Chance of rain today/tonight and tomorrow in Bluefield, 0% both days...
  13. I've already caught the Friday night football fever for the week and now we'll have to wait until Saturday afternoon to "get-it-on." Tomorrow night is going to be very weird in having to wait an extra day for the Beavers to play...
  14. The best news is nothing, but sun and warm temps over the next four days...
  15. As MVfan fan said, that won't make a difference if Bluefield comes out and plays as they're capable of. Wilson can give them a pep talk, but he cannot put the pads on and play for them anymore...
  16. Bluefield doesn't care who they would play in the semis if they win. The Beavers are focused solely on Weir and no one or nothing else...
  17. If Mount View shows up ready to play then Bridgeport better have the driver keep the bus warm b/c the Knights will roll...
  18. I honestly could careless who Bluefield would play if we are fortunate enough to advance to the semi-finals. I believe most Bluefield fans heading out to a game on Friday night will be at Mitchell Stadium rooting on Graham. Just as I expect the Graham fans will be at Mitchell on Saturday rooting on Bluefield. The Bluefield coaches will most likely head to Beckley though to check out the game...
  19. Actually the Weir fullback is 6'2", 210. They have a halfback listed at 6'4", but only 195. The lineman is 6'5", 320. Linked below is a preseason overview of Weir from the Wheeling newspaper. Weir preseason preview
  20. The new coach will be hired at the Mercer County B.O.E. monthly meeting on Monday, November 24th. Bluefield finished interviewing candidates last Friday and the BHS principal will make his recommendation to the board on Monday night. I’ve heard numerous rumors on who the next coach will be, so I will not waste time posting all the rumors. I guess we’ll find out Monday night into Tuesday morning…
  21. Weir does have a passing attack, but they prefer to get things done on the ground. They do have some speed at the skill positions...
  22. If there is a better field-crew in high school football than that of Mitchell Stadium I'd love to meet them. The guys at Mitchell do a great job of keeping the field in outstanding playing shape regardless of weather. Mitchell Stadium was in great shape last year weeks after every other field in the state of WV were pretty much mud pits b/c of the large amounts of rain...
  23. Simon hasn't been involved in the offense very much this season, if at all. The offense is now Jeff Boyles baby and he's done an outstanding job with it. Most of the time when Bluefield is on offense Simon is on the far end of the sideline just watching. The Bluefield coaching has had itself together for most of the season and that's a welcomed change...
