  1. tom i agree with you on some points about 4 inches of mud. but take the graham gretna game gretna is a super fast team and graham is fast but not as fast as gretna is and it was muddy at mitchell stadium on sat, with some snow. gretna was able to run and throw the ball in that game the mud and snow and cold did not hurt them other than not scoring 50 points in the game but they did what they had to to win and win they did over a very good graham team i agree about not playing a game in 4 inches of mud or snow but also i think it is not fair to a team to play on turf in a big game when they had never played on it before a ezample is the 2001 2a state title in va at liberty with graham and harrisonburg graham had never been on turf and harrisonburg had and graham players had a hard time adjusting to the turf so it was not a game that pitted the skills of both teams in a fair way but in va that was where we had to play and play the game they did it would be hard to make a game this time of year as even as possible as far as field conditions go to be fair to everyone and that includes playing on turf. but this is just my opinion. something needs to be done but games are played in the rain all year long during the regular season and some teams are better suited to rain and others to dryer conditions and the regular season games do mean something they count to the playoffs so in football the weather plays a part in the game and teams do have to adjust their style to the conditions but 4 inches of mud is a little to much to ask of any team but so is astro turf to other teams.i do not know what the solution is but playing on turf is not the way to go unless they let the teams practice on the turf during the week leading up to the game so they can get use to the turf.
  2. the one down side to turf is that a few teams i think in wv play on turf so if they were to be in a playoff against a team that plays on grass then they would have a advantage because they play on turf and it does make a difference if you are use to it or not different ways of cutting on turf compared to grass. so the advantage to a team that has played on turf.no matter how you do it one team could have a advantage over another team because of field conditons like higher grass or a wet field.
  3. a possible solution is do like va does and hold each title game in a different location like single a is at jmu 2 is at liberty university and 3 a is at richmond university the could play the title games at local college stadiums if they would let them that way would not be as hard on one field. just a thought and i realize that it might not work in the wv system.
  4. according to espn this evening the usc trojans are in the rose bowl and ranked number one and lsu and ou in the sugar bowl for the nc but this is just according to espn from what i could tell i feel that the nc should be between lsu and usc but who am i lol
  5. for one thing it looks like todd goodson will miss basketball reinjured his shoulder that he had surgery on last year in the gretna game according to what i heard from family setting behind me in the game hope that all works out for this fine young man.
  6. thanks i was hoping that was who he was talking about and not poca if he had said that about them that would have been in bad taste and i do not think he is that kind of a person
  7. i agree with you about a bad snap being a coaches problem and also how come some teams miss handle snaps i good weather graham did this year also it is something that happens and handling a snap in any weather is hard.
  8. hey beaverbeliever did you see the interview tonight on wvva with coach simmons and if you did can you tell me what he was talking about when he said they didnt deserve it was he talking about the beavers or the dots i could not figure out which he was talking about i hope it was the beavers did not deserve to lose the way they did which i myself hated that it happened that way
  9. i to am a proud ghs parent of number 70 was very proud of the way he played today in relief of scott eggleston
  10. long live the tradition of graham and may the young kids on this team the juniors sophmores and freshman carry it on in the years to come they are true champions in my heart all of them
  11. yes graham gave us a great season for all to be proud of and they should be proud of what they did this year when everyone had wrote them off after the first 2 games. it was a pleasure to watch graham this year and will be for the next several years thanks again ghs for a great season
  12. i also have to ad my congrats to graham and to a fine gretna team. the kids of graham showed a lot of heart when scott eggleston went down and todd goodson went the younger kids stepped up and played very well and this bodes well for next year also for graham they got some very valueable playoff experience today so again hold your heads high you did a excellent job against a team that many from eastern va felt you had no chance of competing against but you did that and more you took gretna to territory that they were not use to being in the starters had to play the whole game and they did a good job also. great season ghs looking forward to next years team with all the young players back.
  13. must have been a awsome game sorry that the beavers lost wish that they had won
  14. no game of the week anymore and the have a friday football program but they seem to cover most of the schools from beckley area and some from our area
  15. yes maybe we all here in the two bluefields have something to rally around along with both blfd and ghs in the playoffs. maybe we all should write to the bdt and wvva and let them know what we all feel who knows maybe it would do good if both sides would pull together and help each other on this issue.
  16. yes tom i agree with you about sandmans comments but i think that everyone let it get out of hand by knocking the other side without even trying for the least bit to see it from each others side. at my age i have seen a few games between the two schools and all have been great games and we all should stand up for each other except for the one big game each year. we do not need to try and get at each other at any time other than that game and i think that if everyone looks at the name of the town they live in it says bluefield on both sides. our forefathers joined the two towns years ago and we need to keep that. it is what makes this area great. we are one in every sense. the only difference is a state. and school names. i see kids from both schools dating each other and being friends during the year, maybe we adults need to learn from the kids we can have our differences of opinion but do it in a respectable way. by not trashing each other. and sometimes everyone takes something said out of context but when this happens hopefully someone will point it out to everyone and let things go on in a good way. maybe i am just dreaming to hope that this can happen but hope is eternal.
  17. my question for sources is do we know if the coach from mt view goes to the meetings and if he does he has a longer drive than simmons would, but i do not know if he does but would like to know. just for my curiosity.
  18. tom if what you say is true that does not look good on the beavers at all. and i do know that the beavers do not get the coverage in the state that they deserve but neither do most of the team from southern wv. like the teams from swva do not get coverage anywhere but here for the most part from what i have heard and seen over the years. like gretna does not know where graham high is that is funny to me in a lot of ways just says volumes about sports coverage in both states of our local teams. maybe in the future simmons will show up at the meetings and represent the fine tradition of the beavers. at least all can hope so
  19. i do not think i saw anyone say that bhs controls everything just that the coverage could be better for all involved. but you have the right to your opinion as i have said before, but statements like that might bring on more statements to the detrement of the beavers which i think does no one any good nor does the statement either. i think that we all know that is not true and hopefully you were not to serious about that comment. some may take you serious and if they do then unfortunately they will make a comment to you that you will not like and that gets us no where in the problem that has been identified the coverage of local news on both sides of the state line.
  20. and rightly so but by the same token if someone knocks graham we will also defend them granted we have not won as many state titles as bluefield but does that fact diminish the ones we have won not for us we are proud of the kids that won those as we should be and as beaver should be also but graham has always been the little brother to beaver because we have had trouble in the past beating bluefield but since coach carlock arived on the va side they are building a tradition that all on the va side can be proud of just like bluefield beavers so please let us on the va side be just as proud of our school as you are of yours. i have never said anything bad about bluefield here and i admire their team for their wins. and let us have ours also. i realize that some come over strong but it can be the same on both sides. no one should have a very thin skin when it comes to the two bluefields and their respective schools. everyone has a different opinion on the other school it might not be what i like or think about graham or you about beaver but it all boils down to school pride no matter what else is said, or done. we each see things from our own view point and that is just life. but now and then like i said before we all should try and see it from the others view point. i could understand where the guy was coming from when the one man from beaver complained about the coverage ot the beavers but the way it was said maybe could have been a little better but in the long run if you would look at it from our side it did sound kind of funny to a lot of ghs fans that someone from beaver was talking about the coverage beaver was not getting from the paper. we have lived with it for years and that is just the way it is. maybe one day things may change but until then all i can say is we all live in this area and are tied together by many things paper tv economy friends family lots of things and we need to agree to disagree now and then but also stick together for things that are not right with this area, if everyone did maybe one day the local news media will see what is going on and change things. just one mans opinion and i feel many will disagree with it and to me that is fine the way things should be. would be a boring life if everyone agreeded on everything.
  21. you are not the first to say that it seems like anything that happens on the va side does not get much coverage from the almighty bdt or wvva not just in sports. most things do not get covered. we on the va side have to rely on the bdt and wvva for information. the tazewell county free press gives graham some good coverage in sports but not much else and the clinch valley paper well lets just say that i do not read it because it is like blfd va is not part of the county. but that is just the way it is when you live close to another state and the paper is in that state i guess it looks like blfd va does not belong anywhere to either va or wv. but we have to live with it. i just wish everyone on the wv side would try and look at the problem from our view point and maybe something could be done if they would join in and see what it is like on the va side for us. but i realize that is a long shot because why should they like the one guy said it is their paper. but i do not believe that it is just one side of the va's paper it is all of ours to read and enjoy if we could. just one persons view point from the other side.
  22. i am not going to set here and knock the bluefield f program because it is a great one and has been for years but these are local teams and the telegraph sells papers on the va side also what would they do if everyone on the va side decided not to take the paper anymore that would take a big chunk out of their pocket and i would think that coverage for all local teams would then suffer. and it is not fair to say that because it is in wv that means that they should not give fair coverage to all local teams not just graham or princeton. and i remember when the beavers went i think it was 0-10 that year they still got great coverage from the paper and tv. i know it sounds like sour grapes to people that are use to getting the coverage. but put yourself in the shoes of the people on the other end what would it be like for beaver if the paper was on the va side and beaver got the poor coverage. just a thought. and as for bradshaw i realize that he gets a lot of coverage for the awards he gets but so do the guys from beaver when the win one. and i realize that i will more than likely get the same response as the other guy but before you judge me place yourself in our shoes first then let me have it. if you feel that i deserve it. and even if graham has not won as many titles as bluefield does that mean we are less of a good team deserving of decent coverage by our local paper. and it is a local paper not just the bluefield paper.because i do not see in its title the bluefield wv daily telegraph just the bluefield daily telegraph. and last time i looked at the name of the va town it also was bluefield. so if you want to let me have it i do not care and it will not bother me because you have the right just as i do to state your opinion here and i do not think i have badmouthed bluefield here either.
  23. going to be a barn burner next week here in bluefield for sure.
  24. my son plays at graham and i have not heard anything about next years schedule yet not to say that it isnt somewhere in carlock office in hiding for now. but if i hear anything from my son on this i will let you know.
