page 93 of handbook states you may not have more than 20 practices before your first game, not counting sunday. two a days count one, scrimmages count one. if you start on aug. 2 and do not play until sept. 3 you have to take off at least eight days not counting sunday. (28 days) if martinsville still has the first two playing dates open, then it really gets interesting when they can practice and when they can not. just food for thought.

does magna vista have a game for aug. 27 ? or do they open the first of sept. if it is not the end of aug. then they can not open practice until next week. you have to go by the twenty day practice rule. maybe someone from bassett needs to start counting. magna vista has had some trouble figuring out vhsl guidelines before. just wondering.

talk this spring at ad meetings, graham and bluefield were talking about playing each other twice. wow, what a increase in the schools budgets if it would happen. i know that schools in northern va have been playing teams in their districts twice for years. i think some even met in the playoffs again after playing twice in the same year.

first of all lee would not have to travel to all the schools that are a long distance ( carroll, grundy ) in the same football year. they would have one at home. in the other sports they do play all district games on friday and saturday. no school missed. it is interesting that the track team (indoor) would travel to blacksburg during the middle of the week to run track. do they have a short cut to get to va tech? i think if lee is in the swd, the principals would finally step up to the plate and move carroll to the piedmont. with or without lee, the swd will survive one way or another. they have to remember that it is the same distance for the other teams traveling to lee.

do not forget the ringstaff kid at richlands. more than likely will be swd champ in the 100 meters. tough runner who kept getting better last year

look at he numbers of the old swd schools, graham, grundy, taz, john battle, va. high, gate city, marion, lebanon. there pretty close in enrollment except for abingdon and richlands. go back to the old district. let lee go to lpd or west virginia/kentucky who cares.

the wrestling program will not decide which way grundy goes. if they go black diamond, they are district champs automatic. with no teams in that district it would enable them to travel to all parts of the country to wrestle like they have been doing for years. it will let them schedule who they want in ohio, pa, wv, and northern va.

enrollment figures 9-12 for 2004: division 4... bassett 1286, magna vista 1177, carroll county 1078, abingdon 975, tunstal 849, richlands 840, lee 814. division 3... martinsville 774, marion 755, patrick county 722, va. high 677, dan river 628, tazewell 562, grundy 505, graham 481. there is a odd number of teams in region iv, by league rules the lower division gets the odd number team. some interesting single a team numbers.... grayson county 662, floyd county 617, gate city 600, lebanon 564, john battle 552, giles 519, jj kelly 511, ft chiswell 491. all these larger than graham. all larger than grundy but one.

it may come as a surprise to some, but coach carlock is very high on the list. (which he desrves) coach colobro called about the job, but did not put application in. mike locke, former player and coach there has applied. a couple of asst. at va. high have applied. not positve if he has put in an application but coach hubbard from honaker has inquired about job. the interviews were to begin today, but have been put off, because the personel director had some type of doctors appointment.

the word from some people very close to the situation, say the next coach is bruce sizemore, if he still wants it.

showed a video from a gate city game, with locker room shots. coach colobro was speaking to the team and in the back ground the camera zooms in on some players smoking. said the scott county board was looking into the situation.

yes they have been a pretty good team the last decade. grundy played them four or five years ago. 12-6 at half. 32-12 final sheldon clark. they are graham like of old, double tight wishbone and power football. also a very strong wrestling program.

schedule is the same as last year, without tv. change home and away, except for the bowl is still at grundy. they will have 7 home and 3 away.

lance it is false. grundy picked up aaa sheldon clark. they will play in a bowl game at east ridge the first game of the season. the giles story is false. i think tv tried to do grundy's schedule for them, so they would not have to play both grundy and giles.

hey guys, chill out. the coaches poll is what everyone goes by. not a bunch of newspaper people that have never seen half of the kids play. if a player makes first team all region, the worse he can be is honorable mention all state. marcum and lee both will be some team all state later this month. so relax and enjoy life a little.

that is why his team is in the finals. did not worry about driving to parkersburg instead stayed in front of the tv watching films and preparing his team for friday night. no coach that i know would do anything any different. difference between winners and losers.

it will not be out until the last swd is finished with their season. it was picked 3 weeks ago. all region 4 will not be released by swd until graham is finished. it was picked 2 weeks ago. stay tuned it will not be too much longer. dec. 14th at the latest.

the bowl game was a home game this year. will be a home game next year too. the six away games will be six home games. six plus one equal seven home. now if they can get out of the garden game, they could possibly swing another home game. that would make eight.

it is true they have seven home and possible eight. bowl game, richlands, paintsville,abingdon, vhigh,marion, c. county all sure home games. tazewell and graham sure away games. could be pikeville, 3a lawerance county, 3a sheldon clark, instead of twin valley. pikeville is a five time a champion in ky. reached semi's this year. also they beat the isabelle led bluefield at mitchell stadium his senior year by 50 something to alot less. lawerance county made the region finals this year, sheldon clark lost in region finals this year. could face either in bowl game, or a game at grundy.

if you have sit through ten hurley games, it would be worth your time to see the two teams warm-up. that would be more action than you are use to.

powell valley was not crying when they were getting 80 kids out for football. they can play up if they like, the highlands needs another team, since it is so weak maybe powell valley could win the district. as for gate city, i think they were just as dominating in aa as they are now. the only differance, is they are not getting tested until late in the playoffs. as far as enrollment, no one is going to lie for sports with figures, their federal dollars and state funding comes from the number of students you have. which breaks down to close to $4800 per student. i do not think administration would risk losing that kind of funding in this part of the state.
