  1. First off I must say that I hope Jordan is ok and I wish him a speedy recovery. I saw him and Will collide and immediately knew something was wrong. Obviously nobody is smiling because a player got hurt. The refs seemed to make a few questionable calls but I don't think it was that bad. And I'm pretty sure there wasn't any time left on the clock when the ump threw the delay flag. He was too busy staring at his play clock the entire game to be watching the game clock. Holston ran the ball very well tonight. Seemed like they had a lot of 2nd and short situations but just couldn't capitalize. I can see why #15 is the leading rusher in the Hogo. Not a very big back but he's got some moves. Usually the running game opens up the passing game first but for GW tonight the passing game opened up the running game. Jacob threw very well tonight. It's always nice to see the good kids do well. Good win for the Maroons tonight.
  2. I have an idea...maybe we can get the GMan to place subcatagories under the SWVA Football forum title that contain links to every SWVA team. Then each fan can click on his own team and doesn't have to worry about reading about teams other than his own. If he chooses to click on another teams link then he has no right to complain because he clicked on the wrong link! I'm kidding for those of you who don't know better. I say let the Richlands' fans and/or players have their fun. Because next year the superstar player may be on CC's team or Grundy's or maybe even Richland's again. Due to the small schools we have here in SWVA, all it usually takes is one superstar and 10 slightly better than average players to do good. It was Graham when Bradshaw was there and now it's McCracken and Richlands. Am I tired of reading about Richlands in nearly every thread....yes. But I'm also glad that we'll have a team like Richlands to represent the SW district come playoff time. Would you be posting a thread titled "Who Really Cares Anymore" if it were Carroll County doing the butt kicking?
  3. There is really no comparison between GW's performances against Lebanon and RR. They looked horrible in every aspect of the game against RR. Against Lebanon their defense looked really good especially since they were on the field most the night. The offense didn't look bad, just couldn't put any points on the board. I think the Lebanon-RR game will be a good game but Lebanon will have more points on the scoreboard when the final second ticks off.
  4. [ QUOTE ] What do you want? You have four pages of answers and have insulted just about everyone who responded. Maybe you should start the "What if I wasn't an A$$?" thread over on the "I think I'm smarter than everyone" board. [/ QUOTE ] I would but you'd be a moderator on that board as well! Seriously, I assure you all that my intent was not to insult anyone.
  5. I was still hoping for those "intelligent members" input that I was talking about. It would appear as though I need to be much more careful in which questions I ask but that is where I become confused. If you're not supposed to talk about a past game because it's useless and there's nothing you can do about it and you're not supposed to talk about a future game because it's not been played and anything could happen, wouldn't that make 90% of all posts pointless? Never mind, I've learned a much more valuable lesson than the answer to my original question....just don't ask! Apparently is much easier to sit around and wait for somebody else to ask a question then ridicule them for doing so. Next topic please.
  6. ok...great! if it gets me some better answers: "What if Graham had been able to prevent the Richlands special teams performance?" It's just an innocent question....it's hard to know how to put a "what if" question. I can easily accept a loss to Richlands this year or any other team for that matter....I'm not really a "die hard" fan of any team. However, there are several intelligent members on this board whose opinion I value and I thought this was the place to ask.
  7. GHS06, the post you quoted wasn't necessarily directed towards your "what if" questions...at least they were legitimate questions.
  8. Well, I can assure you that Graham is going to be breaking this game down in to as many pieces as they can when they watch the film. You can't just lump the game into one pot and say "ok we just sucked" and go on to the next game. You have to seperate the offense, defense, and special teams in order to find the major meltdown. I agree that one aspect of a game is just as important as the other two when it comes to playing a game....but we should be able to seperate these aspects when analyzing a game.
  9. If you want answers to your own "what if" questions, start your own thread. Bluefield Rules, you may need to go to different website to ask yours. I just wanted to get good opinions on how many of Richlands' points was scored from special teams. If any of you need me to rephrase the question, just ask.
  10. Thanks Blues. Any guesses as to the final score?
  11. I'm not implying that Richlands' special teams play was a fluke against Graham. Richlands dominated that game in every fashion and I think it's a safe bet to say they done the same thing in the previous four games. I'm just asking "what if" for analyzation purposes.
  12. I think it's obvious that Graham still would not have scored in this game but what do you all think the Richlands score would have been if you exclude the awesome special teams performance?
  13. Lebanon has a good program…even when they are supposed to be down, they still have the ability to beat the so-called "better" team. GW's self destruction was inevitable from the beginning of the season. It almost happened last week against Grayson Co. but instead it happened against Lebanon this week. A loss is always the perfect wake-up call for the coaches and the players. GW should chalk this one up as a lesson learned. I can assure you that GW has physical talent but I'm not as confident when it comes to discipline or respect.
  14. After three impressive shutouts, it doesn't appear anybody in this area will be able to hang with Richlands this year...certainly not Rural Retreat.
  15. As a fan of both these teams, I was wondering how they would match up and what would be the outcome if they played. What do you all think? Personally, I think it would be a pretty good game.
  16. I have watched both GW scrimages this year, numerous games last year, and watched Tazewell beat Graham twice last year and I would still have to say that GW should beat Tazewell...but not by much. GW has outstanding athletes and seem to be well coached. But they lack consistency at this point in the season as a lot of teams do. Davis at QB is very talented and exciting to watch. Both teams seem to have solid defenses which should make for a low scoring game. Whether or not Tazewell is as good as they were last year will be evident after this Friday. Last year I would have never predicted a GW score that included a field goal. But after watching Smith nail a 46 yarder at Marion with room to spare, I think the coaches will give him a chance. GW 24 Tazewell 14
  17. I have watched Gretna, Graham, Tazewell, Grundy, and V-High all play this year and I just don't see anyone comparing to Gretna. The opposing team has to have someone to counter Vic Hall...last year the only player to do so was Bradshaw. I can assure you that there are no Vic Halls or Ahmad Bradshaws in Region IV this year. I have learned not to assume any winner in a high school football game. But Gretna and Vic Hall are about as sure as it gets. On the other hand, congratulations to Tazewell and V-High for making it to the Region IV final. Now that the heartache is over, I guess I can say it's nice to see someone other than Graham and Grundy in the Region IV final.
  18. Other than just saying "anything can happen," is there anybody out there that honestly believes that a Region IV, D3 team can beat Gretna this year? I understand that "anything can happen" as proven by the V-High - Grundy game.
  19. It was Carroll County's destiny to beat Graham. Destiny decided this year was their best opportunity. Nothing lasts forever.
  20. First of all, any team is "beatable" whether they think they are or not. I watched the GW/RR game and I do think that RR played an excellent game. Combine that with a below average performance by GW (under GW standards) and it could have made for a big upset. It appeared as though RR never took complete control of the game. It also seemed as though the absence of the GW starting QB messed with GW's rhythm. I can assure you from having watched them before, GW was not firing on all cylinders that night. Even though RR lost, I think they proved that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the next few years. A few of their players really impressed me. GW is just too strong this year (probably next year as well.) I'm looking forward to the GW/Lebanon game. In a mostly defensive battle, I'll say GW 20 Leb 13.
  21. I must say that I am happy with the improvements that I have seen in the G-Men, but I am not comfortable going in to next week's game with Richlands. Maybe if Graham had a few more games behind them but I'm afraid reality will set in yet again. Next week should be the toughest game of the rest of the season until playoff time (granted they make it that far.) I think that Graham controlled the V-High game but the game was closer than the final score. V-High turned the ball over at least twice near or in the red zone. I'm sure the Graham defense had something to do with those turnovers. Keep up the hard work G-Men...you are getting much better.
  22. Now that the Blacksburg game is in the books, and at this point in the season, I can venture to say that Graham should go 7-3 this year with losses to Bluefield, Grundy, and Richlands. All the other teams on their schedule are either average or below average with the exception of V-High (still average) which should be a really good matchup. It is certain that Graham will improve throughout the season because there are a lot of younger players that are starting. I don't think it will be enough to ever cause a serious threat. Too many question marks at this point. Pass defense seems to have improved but is still very questionable along with the ability to consistantly square up on a runner and land a clean tackle. The running backs seem to want to bounce everything to the outside whether the hole is there or not, which is causing them to run 12 yards and only gain 2. The passing game is inconsistant. It's either a beautiful, on the mark pass where the receiver does not break a stride (no QB pressure) or the kind of pass that falls 10 yards from the nearest person (somebody on defense got through the line.) Also there just doesn't seem to be any leadership on the field. Everyone seems to be concerned with their own tasks at hand as opposed to the team as a whole. But what do I know....I'm still in the Pee Wee League.
  23. I figured it to be a close game which is why we decided to go to it instead of Bluefield vs. Oak Hill. I figured Bluefield would have it's revenge against Oak Hill in a nasty way. 61-16 is pretty nasty! GW has a good team but not quite as good as last year. I doubt they will have a repeat this year, but you never know.
  24. Went down and watched GW play Giles and was quite impressed with both teams offensively. Giles executes the single wing very effectively, seemed to have positive yardage on almost every play. A few key turnovers by Giles seemed to make the difference for GW. Robert Barcliff had a good game with 300 yds. and 4 TD's. The young man I am anxious to see develop is Derrick Davis. He reminds me of Bradshaw running the ball but without his brute strength. Davis is only a sophmore though. A good, clean game by two talented teams. GW 26 Giles 22
