I assumed nothing. You made the point that there were other sports in a rivalry and you are on a football forum. You are going to see a lot from a football perspective.

First, I do not know you and I do not know how you “know” me so the name bit makes me a little uneasy. And I think everyone is trying to say that in football, this is not really a rivalry. So I am not exactly sure which point you are trying to make.

Considering this forum on SWVA Sports is a football forum We know Central is better than Union at certain sports. Just like Central ought to know Union is better than them at certain sports, particularly football.

Both sides have blame. The rap was rather....err, pedestrian. It is like they want to give Union some motivation to whoop their tails. It’s trash talk. It is a lot more idiotic than it is out of line and it is not even really out of line. It’s dumb. Secondly, they are right that Union has no team rings. Central is better than Union at some sports like girls basketball and tennis. I am pretty sure that Union is usually better at boys basketball. They are in volleyball (at least this year). Golf. Union is almost always better than Central in football. It was usually like this in the Powell Valley and Appalachia years. In sports where Union is clearly better, Union hasn’t won state because they have lost to the better team and in many cases the best teams. I don’t think Central would fair any better against teams like Appomattox, Clarke County, or any of those. If anything, Central has given Union more motivation.

Wow. That was an incredibly STUPID rap song. I am not lumping all Central fans together but that is what makes people hate them. And after that stunt they may have provided extra motivation. Union may not go all the way this year because of teams like Appomattox. Goochland seems to be on fire too. There are simply some better teams. I wouldn’t count Graham out.

I think it is silly. Crockett seems to be much better in football. The kids seem to be enjoying it. He mentions things wrong with the system. The school division is angry and doesn’t want to listen. I have complained about things wrong with my place of employment. I didn’t do it on Facebook or a forum because I just don’t do that. He he seems as if he really cares for his students. Whether or not you agree with him is not the issue. He was not posting liberal things or conservative things. It seemed like he was being honest.

Gate City is down. 0-7 for a team who is used to playoff runs is way down. 0-7 is down for most teams. You are on your 4th losing season in 5 years after winning state in 2010. From 1999-2005, you had 4 seasons where you went 10-0. One of those seasons you finally got what you worked for and won state in 2003. People do not usually associate Gate City with losing seasons. If you include the playoff loss in the first round last year, you are in your third consecutive losing season. You are way down.

Not sure of your point but I was not grouping all of Central together based on a few unpleasant people or experiences. I was mentioning things I have seen and in spite of that, I would not trade my time with many Central folks for anything. The vast majority of them are fine people. It takes only one incident among a minority of people to damage a group’s reputation. It doesn’t matter if it’s earned. It’s just the truth. I am certain that one or more people from Union deciding to be a jerk will give people a bad image of Union. Jerk or nice guy, you represent your group with your behavior. Whether it is your family or fan base. If something stands out (good or bad) then that is the image people have of you.

No disrespect to Central but Union dominates from kickoff to the final whistle. Union would have to have a really off night in order to lose or even come close to losing this game. I mean no disrespect to Central but their threat is out for the season. Without him, I don’t believe Central has come close to winning another game. The only game left where they may have a legitimate shot is Gate City. Plus Union’s defense is just too tough for this to even close. Plus, even though the offense has become a little one dimensional, the offense is too quick with Mitchell, Jenkins, Owens, Zirkle, and Qualls.

There are some really fine people from Central and I wouldn't trade my time with many of them for a single thing. There are also people there who make make Central really unpleasant and that is what gives them such a bad reputation. Take it from someone who knows a thing or two about it: There is a great deal of animosity still yet between Wise and Pound people that will take some time to resolve. I have heard parents and students from Pound say that they or their kids are not looking forward to going to Central because of the people from Wise and that they would prefer Burton, Jenkins, or Ridgeview. Pound people are not totally innocent in this matter either. I have seen some bad behavior from some Central students. One Central student page on twitter does have some tweets that make them look like jerks. Union's cheerleading squad a couple years ago had a routine or stunt that went wrong where a Union cheerleader fell to the ground and that page made some horrible jokes about it. I am not saying Union students would not have done the same thing if the situation were reversed. If they have or do, I have not witnessed or noticed it.. A little smack talk among fan bases is fun and okay but there are lines you should not cross. But for every bad group, there is a really good group and I just hope the good group overtakes the bad.

This will be close. Marion seems to be on a roll. Richlands wants to make it be known that they’re still here in spite of a 2-4 record. All 4 of those losses were nothing to hang their heads over. Marion is hungry and will look to keep a perfect season A storm is definitely brewing this game. I am going with Richlands 28-27.

I raised an eyebrow at the picture but I don’t think it was out of line. My thoughts were “Lee fans will not like that.” It’s a meme created by a Union fan. If you make light of abuse, people with special needs or any disabilities, disasters, racism (white on black or vice versa), or anything like that in an attempt to talk smack then it’s way out of line and I will call you out. I have seen a lot of things that are way out of line from many different fan bases from VHSL to NCAA to NFL. A little bit of smack talk like the lunch box is funny.
