  1. It used to be that way until they started catering to the regions.
  2. Whole backfield returning? They lost COdy journell to the VT Hokies.
  3. Grayson and Floyd were ahead of Glenvar in enrollment until recently. We were always hearing rumors about them moving up. It hasn't happend yet. I don't look for it too now. There are 4 teams in region D that are bigger than Glenvar. If Glenvar were in region B, they would be the 3rd smallest in D2. There are 9 schools in that region alone that are bigger than Glenvar. If Glenvar goes, they should be taking a bunch of other schools with them.
  4. I want to comment on the D1 scenario. How can anyone say that there is no coorelation when the D1 champ, Franklin has the numbers to be D2 in both region C and D? They had almost 100 more students than clintwood the state runner up. That is no big deal in D3 or D4. That is a big deal in D1 IMO.
  5. Why would they go to AA? Their numbers are well under alot of other single A teams.
  6. You can pull specific examples from nearly anywhere. Floyd beat Carroll on a regular basis and carroll has twice the enrollment as Floyd. Coaching is a big factor. However, numbers play a big roll in single A. Compare the numbers from region B with the numbers from region C and D. Region B D1 teams are bigger than some of C and D's d2 teams. Let's say 2 teams are equal in the coaching area. When your talking about fielding a team while pulling from an enrollement of 400 kids it's hard to play with a team that pulls from 800 kids. You can talk about the VA Highs of the world but remember I said that the coaching is equal in this scenario. Look at Eastern montgomery who is the lone D1 school in the Three Rivers. They seem to have a good coach but are pulling from 300 or less kids while the rest of the district pulls from 400-650. Thats sometimes double folks. Thats also tough! THere is also a demographic to this as well. Gretna is full of athletes. Period. No one in C or D can dress that many nor do they have the caliber of athletes.
  7. I feel that Thurman was seriously blessed with the talent in Gretna. They have some serious athletes in Gretna. No one in single A can match the athletes they put on the football field. No one! I don't know much about the caliber of athlete at VA High but would bet that they cannot produce what Gretna can. You must have tremendous athletes to run the scheme that Gretna runs. Even on D they bring the house (which was a ton of speed) and force the qb into some bad decisions leaving the dbs in man to man. Again, you need some serious athletes.
  8. Your right on here. SWD Carroll County dropped long time rival Floyd due to the point system. Grundy will be playing region D teams and I bet they will have to play some out of state teams as well to fill the schedule up.
  9. tv beats Em today then losses in the final.
  10. Am I the only one who thinks that these 2 teams traveling to Richmond to play is ridiculous? Why travel 3 plus hours to play a team in your same district. Let's go VHSl. Step up and let them play in Salem for example.
  11. Winner of this one gets a tough task in the finals. Too many athletes for either team to match up with.
  12. I don't know about region D but GW, FLoyd, and Giles will fight for region C honors IMO
  13. Giles has loads of potential next year. Gautier and Robertson should be studs for you guys in the backfield.
  14. Luke is the "A" state player of the year voted by the AP. COngrats!! He was a remarkable qb at Floyd for 3 years. Leading the team on 2 last minutes drives in the playoffs will certainly be memorable.
  15. Shrader is not on 1st team as qb because Luke Harris from FLoyd earned that honor. I too believe Sharitz should be 2nd team qb. No offense to Shrader. Did he earn MED player of the year as qb or because of defense??
  16. Clodhopper.....Lebanon has built a solid program and will be in the hunt for years to come. I said in the stands during that lst drive and I made the statement that the O-line had gave the qb time. It was just one of those rare team moments in high school football. Years like FLoyd and Lebanon has had builds programs. Floyd has had an extra month of practice and that will prove vital in the seasons to come. I have enjoyed talking, bickering, and arguing with you guys from Lebanon. Have a great off season. See you next year at Lebanon.....that would be nice!!
  17. I absolutely agree. FLoyd could have easily and well, was beat by Lebanon and GW. Those games alone have made this season even more special. To be able to somehow get a win when those games were pretty much over will be memorable for a long time to come. Floyd faces their toughest test in Gretna. Go Buffs! 13-0 seems pretty consistent to me but I do know what you mean. Maybe they can gather up some more of the magical luck this Sat.
  18. I think it's obvious that Floyd doesn't win without Luke Satuday. WIth that being said, you guys have to give him credit for beating you while injured. Period. Luke doesn't score the 1st td without the blocking, and he doesn't throw the second without the line and receivers. You guys have seen Luke and FLoyd 1 time in his career. If you had seen him or had a player like him at Lebanon you would be giving him the same props. Luke made the 20/20 club this year. Floyd has a great team with a great leader.
  19. Whatever. Harris got hurt on the first td. How can you judge how good he is based on that? The receivers are what got it done on the final drive. Not too mention the o-line giving Harris all day to throw. There are you happy? I'm just glad we are talking baout Floyd and not somebody else on championship week like say lebanon. This Floyd team is very special and it's becaue they are a team. Period. The only point I am making is that FLoyd is a much better team when Harris is 100%. I have already heard how Lebanon would have won if you had Heldreth. Is he your whole team? My goodness man come on.
  20. Any idiot can see that a team that is 13-0 has much more than 1 player. Floyd could loss by 100 saturday. Why would I make an excuse? I am very proud of the Buffs win or lose. Sorry my opinion is not like yours.
  21. Luke had already drove the team and scored a rushing td which is when he initally got hurt. His injury took a turn for the worse right before half but it wasn't the same after the first td. You call that not doing much? That was the only score of the first half.
  22. Today was 8 bucks. Last year it was $10 to see both games at Salem.
  23. Unbelievable. Floyd up 7 at half. QB Luke Harris got hurt right before half. That would hurt Floyd badly. The offense was very limited with his inabilty to run. He was a non factor defensively and had to be taken out. Lebanon scores off of 2 FLoyd fumbles. 13-7. Lebanon makes some big plays and has the ball on FLoyds 10 with 1:38 left. Instead of taking a knee, Lebanon runs up the gut and fumbles it away to Floyd. A limping Luke Harris drives the Buffs 85 yards for a td with 6 seconds left. Floyd had to convert on a 4th and about 25 to get this into scoring position. Unbelievable!! Floyd plays with the most heart I have ever seen. Never gave up even when it was seemingly over.
  24. Lebanon seems to be a very formible opponent. Fans from the region D area think LEb. will win and we from region C think Floyd will win. I know Tazwell is good but Floyd is good too. A terrific qb who can throw and run. 2 good backs along with reliable recivers. Good D as well. I look for a good game here. FLoyd has a great offense and the 1st team D held Chilhowie to 60 total yards. Floyd is 12-0 and has played only 2 teams that finished under .500. Haven't seen Leb so I'm jut going on my gut on how good FLoyd can be. Floyd 35-14
  25. How do they stack up to Lebanon? All opinions welcome.
