  1. Too easy? Wasn't too easy the past 3 years was it? I don't think you're giving Richlands enough credit. If you want to disrespect Gate City and Giles and their programs, I promise you it'll come back on ya one day. Give the Blues credit for what they've accomplished instead of putting down two fine programs. I promise one, if not both, of those teams still have alot of football to play this season.
  2. Good luck to you guys also. I heard we had a good week of practice, and the guys held their heads high all week. That's tough to do after getting your tails handed to you a week earlier...lol. Keep it goin Blues.
  3. I said it last week, and I'll say it this week. Richlands will make teams look alot worse than they made us look last week before the season's over. We made major improvements tonight. No disrespect towards Coeburn, but they're not Richlands. Alot of kids, if not all of them, got playing time tonight. Tylee Anderson also gave us a glimse of what he's gonna bring us. On a side note, the freshman kicker for GC will be something by the time he's finished. I was shocked to see him kick 40 yard FG's in pre-game..lol
  4. If by some small miracle Gate City happens to win, which judging by the disrespect on here that'll never happen, this board will be fun to read late Friday night/early Saturday morning. Keep putting them down and overlooking them, they love being underdogs.
  5. I honestly think it's a little of everything. Christiansburg is loaded, no doubt in my mind. Gate City only ran 7 or 8 different plays total. I don't think GC or PV could've played with Christiansburg regardless, they're just too strong. You can't go by a pre-season scrimmage on how good or bad a team is. If you do that, you're in for a long night when the lights go on for a game that actually means something.
  6. Unless Tazewell's offense has gotten much better since last year, they'll have a hard time scoring on Graham from the defense they showed last week. Like I said earlier though, you can't judge your season by a scrimmage. They looked ready though.
  7. I need to apologize to ya FB. After watching Gate City's blue and white game this morning, they are by no means as small as what I had heard. There are some horses on that line, and very little fat on them. You can tell your informer that he's a pretty intelligent cookie.....lol
  8. Mark Thompson from Gate City had to be one of the best in the old SWD. Back in the '80s, the SWD was brutal.
  9. Um, you might've heard wrong.....lol. We have a transfer from Miami that's over 300lbs, but that's it size wise. We should be quicker all the way around though. As for Powell Valley, we'll worry about that bridge when we come to it. I don't understand why you'd pick Gate City in September, but not in October, but that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. The last four games will be tough, with Clintwood, PV, Appy, and Burton. Not to mention the season opening game with Richlands and Virginia High is back on our schedule. We're not used to having that many players show up, and from what I understand with the little league numbers growing as well this could be the norm in GC for years to come. It's good to see high school kids show up in number like that when they could very easily be at home on the computer or playstation.
  10. I was shocked when I heard about this earlier in the week. Our thoughts and prayers are with Coach Carlock, his family, and the folks of Graham High School and the Bluefield area. You folks will always be respected by the people of Gate City.
  11. The jamboree's August 19th. I had heard that GC's scrimmaging Patrick Henry and Graham on the 12th but not 100% sure on that one.
  12. There's no way PV will beat GC by 21, and vice versa. Anybody that saw the first one knows they're evenly matched. I'm glad Honaker used a 5-wideout set last week. It prepared us well IMO. It's also supposed to be cold and rainy.
  13. There are 2-8 teams in the playoffs every year in Tennessee. This year, there was a slight possibility that a 1-9 team might get in. I don't think that happened though.
  14. Sorry Lance I was responding to Sandman. Gate City dropped down for the same reason other schools dropped. The almighty dollar. We can go to any LPD school in an hour or less. In Division 3, we had to travel sometimes for 4 hours to play a regional game. I honestly don't see how we're saving money though. I miss the larger crowds we're accustomed to.
  15. Trust me, I have one and there's no way in Hell I could dive over a pile that big....lol
  16. How in the heck is a QB even allowed to throw for 8 TD's? Especially when the game is a laugher.
  17. The state games are on astro turf anyway. But I agree, I don't like it.
  18. We have to get there first. We have a tough game with Honaker today.
  19. I heard GC might be picking Virginia High up next year. Not sure how true that is though.
  20. As for Gate City, ducking competition is a joke. You can check the stats from the past 40 years and see we've been very successful in both A and AA. Maybe you need to study the reasons why the schools dropped down instead of making rediculous accusations.
  21. On a personal level, my biggest surprise was Gate City. Losing 18 seniors to graduation from a state championship team and being 9-1 at this point heading into the playoffs is remarkable to me. I put Richlands and Tazewell up there as well. Biggest Disappointment...Losing to Powell Valley.
  22. This one will get ugly early and get uglier each minute.
  23. Great job Blues. Good luck the rest of the way.
  24. I'll say one thing, anybody that thought GC would be 8-0 at this point with the personnel we lost was living in a dream world. I didn't expect to be undefeated at this point, and alot of other folks didn't neither. It's odd that a team is 8-0 and ranked #1 in the state in Group A and is an underdog against the #5 team. That's what we have this week though. I can't wait.
