  1. Fulmer Cup points only pertain to a football player's actions when he's in school, not out of school.
  2. Shhh, keep Stiney around. He might slip up and give the Hoos a treat this year. ;)
  3. I told you Miami was the best team in the Coastal. Said it after Week 1. VT's like an old song, you know exactly how it's going to go. Defense: NC caliber Offense: mediocre Special teams: great/superior From an impartial observer, you all really need to jettison Stinespring. He's almost as bad as Mike Groh. Almost. Get rid of him, and open the checkbook and write a big, fat one to every offensive guru you can find. While you all are at it, give Foster a massive raise. He's the reason VT's bowl-eligible this year. I'm not even remotely joking.
  4. The Hokies got some VERY favorable calls in the UNC and GT games...
  5. It was well under $1.00 in the mid-late 90s. I saw it at $.76 in Washington County one day about 13 years ago. I remember this distinctly.
  6. $1.89 in Central PA. It's even under $2 now for 89-grade! Let the good times roll!
  7. I would typically come out and say: "Well, it's better to have 1 NC and thugs than have 0 NCs and thugs". But then I'd remember, UVA placed 3rd in the Fulmer Cup this year and I can't throw anymore stones at the Hokie glass house. For now.
  8. LOL, that's insane. Poor woman, though.
  9. It would help, but I really believe he's either UVA or TN bound.
  10. I think the Big XII is the best this year myself, but there's no possible way they'll get 2 teams into the BCS title game. Just not happening.
  11. He has his own "Cup" named after him. Google Fulmer Cup, and you'll see why.
  12. This is the first time I've ever seen "Fulmer" and "class" in the same sentence without being joined by "is not at all".
  13. Wonderful, terrific post. I subscribe to it.
  14. Poindexter's a sad case, as I think you're right. He was poised for a nice NFL career until that injury. VT's just always been mentally tough under Beamer, and they showed it in '95. I say UVA's 0-482 in big games in their career, and the '95 VT game was a big reason why. Either they can't hold onto a lead, or just don't show up. And it was that way even under Welsh at times.
  15. Back when VT stormed the field after beating UVA, haha. Now, it's just business as usual. The 1995 season really stings for a lot of UVA fans. 2 losses by 1 point, 1 loss by 5 points, and 1 loss by 7 points. The closest the Hoos had come to being nationally significant since 1990. One day...
  16. See my post above as to your last line. But I agree with your third paragraph.
  17. This is very true; generally, if you get caught having a party like this, you were doing something to warrant getting busted... The teacher will just "resign", and the school system will just give him/her a favorable recommendation elsewhere. Seen it happen...
  18. LOL, that's right. I graduated with a B.A. in Classics, not physics or engineering. ;)
  19. You mean, this one? "Touchdown, Ahmad Hawkins!" Note the utterly bogus, home-cooking call on the TE catch the play before it. The play afterward was PURE GOLD. 10-year anniversary of this game, am I right? Let's rekindle some old flames in 2 1/2 weeks. ;)
  20. You're an American, aren't you? Isn't this something all Americans should strive for? If I may get allegorical, does an eagle not need both its left and right wings to fly? I never have agreed with a strictly Republican or strictly Democratic agenda, and I don't believe I ever will. Too much of one thing closes off the collective mind of the nation. Of course, I'd expect something like this from you. "Republicans have to be bi-partisan, but Democrats like me don't because we're in power, tee hee hee." That's a narrow-minded view, reeking of bitter partisanism left over from your "reclaiming of the White House". I'm certainly glad I don't own this viewpoint, and I'm glad I never did. Not only this, it's quite esoteric; thankfully, you're in the minority of people who feel this way. Edit: Nothing out of the ordinary, I expected such an explanation to BTail and my question about "explain the radical right". How much research did you have to do before arriving at this earth-shattering answer. Three days? More? Just like most liberals I've ever met. They fling around words such as "radical" and can't back them up to save their lives. On the flip side, that's what the Republican pundits get bashed for, backing it up too rabidly.
  21. Thanks for posting this, Blue. It's an unabashedly scathing review, but a lot of it is true. I'd say about 95% of it. However, this author should know why Jesse Jackson was crying. For an author who so astutely makes his point, he's either very naive on this front or he intentionally glossed right over it. Again, I'll support Obama and respect the man, and if he does well by this great nation, there's a good chance I'll vote for him the second time around. However, this is a stern, shocking wake-up call as to the doubts I had about this man in the first place. And I still have those doubts.
  22. I just read an interesting statistic about UVA football. Virginia has won 13 of the last 14 "Virginia Tech Warm-Up" games. By this, I mean the game directly preceding the Virginia Tech game. This loss occurred in 1997, and I have to say, the result in the Virginia Tech game was pretty favorable: http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/acc/virginia/yearly_results.php?year=1995 In the last 14 Virginia Tech games, Virginia is a crappy 4-9. Throw the Clemson game? ;) Nah, just found this interesting, though.
  23. Ah, come on, you should talk about Alabama football on here more often as a fan of the program. Different perspectives on the issue should always be welcome, especially since most of us here are of Big East/ACC leanings. If Alabama and Texas Tech remain undefeated, those two should play for the national title, no doubt about it. I think our main difference is on who wins the SEC title game, and I'll not mind it a bit if I'm incorrect. But I do respect how Alabama's come back from the depths to contend for a national title this year.
