  1. This is the freaking exact strategy that I got ridiculed by "those in the know" for when USC played in Charlottesville. Line up in I-formations and pound it at them. I don't need 20-20 hindsight for that one. Seems like Corvallis is USC's kryptonite.
  2. TSL's not exactly the most unbiased source for information. ;). But mine isn't free from reproach, either, considering where I come from. Casteen has the backbone of a jellyfish, so this might actually be right. But the popular consensus around Charlottesville absolutely did not want VT in the conference. They wanted Syracuse. Warner threatened to hit UVA in the purse-strings, and since money rules all up there, we buckled. They wanted that 6% state funding a little too badly. Which begs the issue: why buckle when you could just jack the tuition up an extra $3K and remove "state-supported" status altogether.
  3. Chris Henry and Pacman Jones. We need a third for WVU's Christmas play... :P
  4. How quickly it changes. ;) UConn's just incredibly inconsistent. But hey, anyone can look like world-beaters against UVA this year...
  5. Casteen was strong-armed by Warner into that move. Not to mention, UVA's fanbase as a whole was vehemently opposed to the move.
  6. Having seen USC with my own eyes, I can say that I NEVER saw this one coming. Just an incredible upset. But hey, it was "OSU", right?
  7. SPOT ON! I'd LOVE to be the lawyer that represents this child/father in court. I'm taking a First Amendment course right now in law school, and unless this shirt presented a "clear and imminent danger", it should not be censored. Clearly, that's not the case here. And yes, there's a BIG double-standard here, which you nail in the 2nd paragraph.
  8. They finally got tables in? Might have to check that out...
  9. It's unbelievable for me to see that we've outperformed MIA, FSU, WF, NCST, UMD, UNC, Dook. Well, not the last four, of course. Too bad that'll drop like a lead balloon when we go 0-8 this year. And of course the Hokies are stoked about ACC expansion. I'd be, too, if our sports programs improved that much.
  10. I got a prime opportunity to land a KO punch on an Obama supporter last week. There's this one girl in my Constitutional Law class who is head-over-heels for Obama. Wears an Obama button to class every day, has Obama stickers all over her laptop, speaks in a snarky "holier-than-thou" tone when anyone with the slightest iota of conservatism crosses her path. You know the type. Anyway, we were talking about the borderline-unconstitutional Detainee Treatment Act of 2005, and how it was another step in the legislative-judiciary tango regarding the habeas corpus of alien detainees. This girl raises her hand, and spouts off about the (quotes are hers) "stupid Republican Congress" voted into office by "the same stupid Americans who voted Bush into office twice", and continues to proceed on a rant about how Democrats wouldn't allow this to happen, how Democrats adhere to the Constitution far more closely that Republicans, yada yada yada. Now, I was letting this girl have her 15 minutes of fame, until the "stupid Americans who voted Bush into office" crack came out. I voted Bush in 2004, because I value social conservatism more than I value fiscal liberalism. I know, no candidate out there panders to my belief, but there I go. I get the urge to raise my hand: "Professor Gaudion, correct me if I'm wrong about this, but the Congress, both House and Senate, was taken over by Democrats in 2006, right? If this is the case, and if the Democrats cared about the unconstitutionality of the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005 as much as some claim, then why did they just not repeal it?" This sets Obama chick off like a Roman candle. Here's an approximation of her next statement: "BUT THEY HAVEN'T EVEN FINISHED A FULL CONGRESSIONAL TERM YET!!!!!! HOW CAN YOU EVEN SAY THAT UNTIL THEY FINISH A FULL CONGRSSSIONAL TERM!!!!!!!!!!" Here's my next response, and I'm proud of myself for making it: "Congress goes into session on the first Tuesday of the year directly following their elections, correct? The 108th Congress, this Democratic Congress, has had exactly 1 year, 8 months, 18 days to repeal the 'Republican' legislation if they truly wanted to. That's approximately 7/8ths of a full House term. Instead, this Congress has passed the fewest legislation since 1848. That's 160 years. Apparently, our Congress, if you can call it that, has found it more prudent to pass legislation authorizing 'National Watermelon Growers' Month' than it has repealing legislation detrimental to human rights. Will it change under Obama? Of course not. 51% of Obama's Senate sponsored bills have been merely declarations. Basically, naming post offices after people. It's not a Republican thing, it's not a Democrat thing: it's a GOVERNMENT thing. All are responsible for failing us here." It shut her up; she had no response to this. She smarted off, and I busted her. One of my prouder "hot-headed" moments regarding this election.
  11. And now, Lalich is an Oregon State Beaver. http://blog.oregonlive.com/beavers/2008/09/beavs_land_exvirginia_qb_lalic.html. I hope he gets everything straightened out.
  12. Looked like that ball went straight down the yard-line to me...;)
  13. LOL, this is BRILLIANT. Would never happen at WVU, would never happen at Pitt, would never happen at Maryland.
  14. Haha, and UVA could be an NCS contender next year. ;)
  15. Crap, you've got to be kidding me! Well, I guess we're not special, then. :( And to BigBlue's point, I've often wondered that myself. Especially considering that a female's average gestation period is 9 months, 4 days. Which puts "the deed" right on...January 1st, 1985.
  16. Ah, good ol' Grant Hill! And I know a couple of older people with an October 5th birthday, but they're few and far between. Have to be pretty special to get this one. ;)
  17. You're exactly right. That's pretty awesome, man. I've only known a couple of guys with that October 5th birthday.
  18. And a late one to you, haha. Mine's in 13 days, too, come to think of it.
  19. I know VT hasn't always played its best against BC, but next to Wallace Wade Stadium, Chestnut Hill has by far the *weakest* home-field advantage of anywhere else in the ACC. Almost the exact antithesis of Lane Stadium. And I say this with the utmost confidence, having been to most of the stadiums in the ACC. If BC's behind at all, that crowd is DEAD. I think VT should be over those road demons at BC.
  20. You are correct, that he did, thus his dismissal from the team. Not an Honor Code violation, given the culture of alcohol rampant at UVA. But enough to get kicked off the team. Lalich's not dumb; as we both know, the consequences would've been far graver had he lied. Now, *that* would have been an Honor c\Code violation, and would've sent him right back to Springfield. Not to mention, the much stiffer sentence he'd get for not taking the plea deal.
  21. And Brooks didn't inhale... Interestingly enough, Lalich was dismissed even before his 9/26 court date. Before he was "charged with anything".
  22. This is a pretty fair analysis, and I agree with it just about word for word.
